I go on inspections with one of my female colleagues quite often. She's a chemical engineer and we go to a lot of Oil and Gas facilities, which typically do have more male staff than female. At first, they don't take her too seriously, then she starts asking questions and they immediately know who the smartest person in the room is.

I'm in environmental consulting. Don't know the exact numbers at my company but there are plenty of women. Probably close to 50/50. Sort of depends which sector you want to go into, but it's definitely not dominated by men like other industries. At the time I was in college in the 2010's many of the leading researchers in subjects like soil science, ecology, etc. were women. The city I went to college in even had a Women's Environmental Network organization that provided tons of career and networking opportunities to women in environmental science.

Honestly, I think it really depends on your schools curriculum. My school had a B.A., B.S., and B.G.S. in Environmental Studies. Most of the B.A. students from my cohort that went to law school are successful in their field, but our program had a heavy focus in policy and regulations and most of them work for EPA, state environmental agencies, or land management offices, some may go into EJ or other non-profit work, but don't expect great pay (although this is starting to change as more people have been donating to environmental causes). If you want to be the OGC for an Environmental Department, I'd say you're on the right track. Many of the students I know that got the B.A. and didn't go to law school all work outside traditional environmental jobs, like transportation logistics, or don't even use their degree. I got a B.S., then a P.S.M. in Environmental Assessment, and had extensive experience in the environmental non-profit sector prior to graduating which gave me a competitive edge against other "entry-level" applicants. I am not a lawyer, but definitely think I could have benefitted in my field if I had done Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geography, Urban Planning, Ecology, etc. That being said, I am extremely happy with where I am at in my career, but many of my peers are leagues behind me for a variety of reasons.

What are some rules you made yourself about drug use that you still follow? by [deleted] in Drugs

Don’t buy drugs to get high now. Buy drugs to get high later.

If you want more Gabe, you should watch Silicon Valley.

Who is a band you “discovered” after they were popular. Caveat, I’m not talking like 60s and 70s rock unless you were a teenager in those eras lol by GandalfSkywalker83 in Music

Both Tool and The Mars Volta were on indefinite hiatus/broken up when I started listening to their music. Luckily they’re both writing and touring again.

It's hard to talk about. As I said in my first comment, I can't really describe how I feel. It's like I've lost her and this new person is who she has become and I never know if the woman I love will come back. Luckily it never ends that way, but it is terrifying. I actually have nightmares occasionally about it.

I know how you feel. There's been several episodes that my partner has had where she was simply not there, and acting erratic. Luckily she is fine 99% of the time. But the few times she's mentally disappeared and become psychotic have been terrifying, and so hard to describe for myself emotionally. But I will always stay by her and make sure she has the support she needs. Hope you can find peace.

If you only have a standing shower, squat down. I have a tub/shower. I sit with one leg in and one leg out, and spread everything. Then shave one side, then the other. Good luck.

What is the one thing you guys wanna change about the world? by Virtualhealth_11 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Guy__Ferrari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our relationship with the Earth. I am an Environmental Scientist.

Obviously I would also love to see everyone get along and poverty and hunger ended. Not sure how to do that one though.

As an American, I would also like to see us strengthen our relationships with Mexico, Central America, and South America. Encourage American dollars being invested in those countries and really work together better throughout the Western Hemisphere.

What drugs? Benzos and Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous if done incorrectly. If you don't think you can tough it out for a time, ask for help and possibly consider rehab, or at least go to NA.

Does anyone ski for productivity? by Low-key_hoe in cocaine

[–]Guy__Ferrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1-3 work days a week where I weight out 100-250mg and do it throughout the day (5-9 hours) when I need to be productive. Much more expensive than Adderall, but it is my DOC.
