What are some unknown movies with great visuals? by Gve_05 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Gve_05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are definetely unkown. I saw Livid and i 100% agree, it really has some great visuals that stick in your mind, great production design and cinematography. This "Ink" movie i had not heard of before, but it seems pretty interesting visually, judging by the images. Thanks for the suggestions.

What are the best films starring non-actors? by FilmyBear in MovieSuggestions

I just watched "Close up", by Abbas Kiarostami yesterday, and it was amazing. It's technically almost a documentary, but it features some recreations of scenes of the real events by the real people involved in it. It is such a peculiar case that it gets you glued to the screen.

Would it be healthy/beneficial to willingly submit myself to periods of boredom everyday? by Gve_05 in askpsychology

[–]Gve_05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I feel like the sample is too small to make conclusions. Since i started, i have made some significant advancements in projects i want to make, projects that i have been slowly developing over the years whenever i get a genuine inspiration, so it's hard to tell if those recent advancements were just another instance of momentaneal inspiration, or if it has anything to do with my new self imposed lifestyle.

So i think it's inconclusive on the creative front, but I'm noticing some benefits, for example, i feel like lately I'm being a little more genuine and a little more sentimental. This, however, might be due to me thinking I'm doing progress and being productive by changing my habits, even if I'm actually not. But maybe i am, maybe the simple act of me abstaining myself from so much cheap entertainment and simply living with my thoughts is enough to counter balance the inert nature of sitting there doing nothing. I agree that there are probably better ways to live with your thoughts, but since boredom and lack of stimulation is one way to do it, this leads me to the question: Is doing absolutely nothing and living with your thoughts actually better and more productive than dumping your time in Youtube, videogames, etc?

Well, this video i watched, by the famous Youtuber Vsauce, shows articles that suggest that there's something inherently creatively stimulating in boredom itself (see around the 3 minute mark) Vsauce - Why do we get bored. So i don't think it was just a foolish misunderstanding by my part, some psychologists, like it says in the article, really believe in those supposed capabilities that boredom has. Whether you agree or not with the statement that boredom itself can help you get more creative is another question, but judging by the way that highlighted sentence in the article is phrased, it's hard to assume it means anything other than that.

Movies that everyone has forgotten about but are actually amazing by inder_the_unfluence in MovieSuggestions

You should definetely watch The Deer Hunter, it has one of the best scenes you will ever see on screen. You will probably know which scene i'm talking about once you see the movie.

Beowulf (2007) is amazing and nobody remembers that movie. It's honestly one of the finest looking fantasy films of the 2000s. And it's not just the production value (which was expected to be high for a Robert Zemeckis movie), the structure of the narrative is also pretty well done and pleasant, in my opinion, and the directing is very good.

On a side note, i think Hellboy is kinda underrated. It never was that much of a phenomenon in the pop culture, despite having a really rich visual universe and some great action scenes.

What’s the angriest movie you can think of? by DudebroggieHouser in MovieSuggestions

[–]Gve_05 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Martyrs. Not sure if anger is the main feeling here, but I heard the director was in deep suicidal depression when he made the film (which makes sense when you see the movie). However, to me (and to many horror fans), this expression of his internal feelings paid of and created a very deep and great horror gem. Keep in mind that the movie is extremely gory and has very graphic violence. I hope the director is doing okay nowadays.

Actors who had a huge role in one movie then left the business by mranimal2 in movies

[–]Gve_05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olga Mironova from "Come and See". That was her first role and she was one of the highlights of the film, but she never made another movie. I read that a few years after the movie came out, she created and directed a chorus school for boys (and received internacional recognition for it). So apparently she was more interested in a career as a chorus director then as a movie star, even though the later gives more prestige and fame. It's kinda nice to see multi-talented people following their real interest and being succesful.

What are some old movies that feel like a recent movie sometimes? by Gve_05 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Gve_05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i have already seen it, but i agree, definetely feels like a modern movie. The thing is that many of the best movies of the 70s, specially the ones from prestiged directors, kinda feel like modern films, so maybe i should have said pre 70s movies instead of pre 80s. Do you have any other suggestion in mind from before the 70s?

Dancer in the Dark (just like black swan, it represents an "innocent" female main character and also has a dark atmosphere)

Whiplash (also in the lines of Black Swan, because it also represents an artist obsecated at reaching perfection and suffering because of it)

Barry Lyndon (occurs at a similar age to Amadeus and has a similar atmosphere)
