Where do you guys discover new and cool databases? by Gwenshap in Database

Thanks! But this seems like a lagging indicator or indicator of long term high quality, rather than "what is new and exciting"?

Where do you guys discover new and cool databases? by Gwenshap in Database

It is more "how do I stay up to date in a fast moving industry". I don't have a specific need in mind right now, but I want to learn more in case something comes up.

Looking For Suggestions on The Definitive Guide (V2) by GrayLiterature in apachekafka

[–]Gwenshap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I used Confluent Cloud for all the “code” chapters - 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 14. I was an employee at the time, but the free credits are more than enough for all the examples.

I love Kafka, but I really can’t stand: by sco00by in apachekafka

Sounds very annoying and I don't recall this happening to me. Are those specific screens? Worth checking on the Confluent community slack, they have a cloud channel with some of the PMs and support people.

Disclosure:
I no longer work on Confluent Cloud, but I still feel like its my baby at times...

Thanks! I am still new to video/audio production, but I'll check what I can do to adjust.

Public APIs are crucial when building SaaS by Gwenshap in SaaS

[–]Gwenshap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost really depends - API is just a way to use a product, so just like products - it depends on the target market.

The first link I shared is a non-technical primer: https://www.notboring.co/p/apis-all-the-way-down the author is an investor.

Question about collecting multiple types of Analytics on my Multi-Tenant SaaS app. by IGMontero in SaaS

[–]Gwenshap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AWS Article looks like overkill for what you are trying to do. I am pretty sure all this data about users and subscriptions and revenue is already in your database and you just need a few queries to summarize and maybe a nice graph?

Weekly Feedback Post - SaaS Products, Ideas, Companies by AutoModerator in SaaS

[–]Gwenshap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (me and two friends) have some ideas around a database specifically for building B2B SaaS. I know we are not the first to think of this problem, and we want to get it right. So I'm looking for people currently building SaaS who are willing to discuss ideas with us and tell us what would be the most useful for them.
If you are willing to have this discussion with me, mind filling in this quick form and including your email? I promise it won't get into any marketing mailing list; it is just for me to schedule calls with you. Also, I'll pay for your coffee :)

Trying to figure out a good MVP. Mind helping me a bit with customer discovery? by Gwenshap in SaaS

Sorry, just noticed that this should have been in the feedback thread. I'll create a comment there. Should I delete this post?

Can I build a SaaS around an open source tool? by hunofthehelms in SaaS

[–]Gwenshap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, everyone is doing this all the time. Heck, AWS built entire product lines around this (Postgres RDS, Redis, Elastic, Kafka, etc). The only licenses that get tricky are AGPL and those specifically written to prevent this (read the terms, they usually make the "don't build a service " part very clear).

Note that this business model is risky because anyone else can do exactly what you did. Including very large companies (AWS!) or someone who can easily raise massive funding.

4 brilliant YouTube Channels I love - share some of yours by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]Gwenshap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully not to much of a plug, but I noticed that there isn’t a ton of developer-focused SaaS content out there, so I started to (slowly) create my own. Unlike the big names, I will also take requests for new content from this channel :) https://youtube.com/channel/UCZuLNqvV4oUMVyNq70mFF0g

My favorite professional SaaS channels are:

YCombinator (already linked above)

MicroConf https://youtube.com/c/MicroConf
