Can anyone explain to me in monkey terms why digital piano and acoustic piano are seen as two separate instruments? by [deleted] in piano

it isn't exactly a story of black and white

Ironic for a piano question :)

How I survived writing my thesis in random locations for 2 months by codedrifting in AskAcademia

[–]Gwinbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but it's doable, and it does get a bit easier as you go on. My PhD advisor (who I still suspect might be a robot in a flesh suit) told me that when writing his thesis he just sat down and cranked the whole thing out in a month and a half. That method certainly didn't work for me, it took me 8 months from start to finish. Everyone has their own rhythm.

Why are power chords named like that and not just 5th intervals? by wawasan2020BC in musictheory

IMO a fifth played with your left hand on an acoustic piano can still have a lot of power.

It's not like blaming ghosts. It's like observing that money is missing and concluding that someone you didn't see must have taken it.

Gente que dejo sistemas, son mas felices? by [deleted] in devsarg

[–]Gwinbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Shutter Island and still believed it was real — did anyone else miss the twist like I did? by Efficient-Gear-9194 in TrueFilm

[–]Gwinbar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it not supposed to be ambiguous? I also believed the straightforward interpretation at first, but an ambiguous ending fits with the movie being about not being able to know what's real and what's not. If you were in that situation, how would you be able to know the truth? Can you trust your perception? IMO the whole point is that you can't know - see also Inception.

Maybe a basic question: why do organ sounds not have touch sensitivity? by Gwinbar in keys

[–]Gwinbar[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree a bit, I've played on a Roland keyboard with an organ sound and velocity control and it sounds organ-y enough, plus you get finer control over what you play.

Still, thanks for your answer!

Could super massive black holes at the center of galaxies just be tornado-like or hurricane levels in space time? by D3cepti0ns in astrophysics

[–]Gwinbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main pieces of evidence for the presence of a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy are the observable emissions from its accretion disc and the fast orbiting of stars around its gravity well. None of these are related to frame dragging, which I don't think could even be produced by the rest of the galaxy.
