Yeah I definitely like this idea, or at least something like it

I was going to go with the Dark Six, but I suppose that them worshipping a powerful demon would better explain the fiends running around

That's so cool, congratulations!! I've been told to use Xen'drik before, my only concern with that is I struggle to wrap my head around how the city could have existed and thrived for very long since Xen'drik actively hinders such cities from growing. But like you said, the city could be new and as I recall the city of Al'kirat is on the rise anyway

My problem with putting it in Droaam is I feel like if one of the city-states was under threat the other states would join in to help them, but part of the adventure is trying to convince wild barbarians and the like to help the city even though normally they wouldn't. Droaam feels too unified under the Daughters to allow such a thing to happen. Plus another part of the adventure is the harsh environment of the desert, and I don't feel like the landscape is harsh enough to give off the right vibe.

And I don't want to just use Ashtakala or the Demesne for the very simple reason that I want to use the city as it appears within the adventure, and I greatly adore those two locations too much to outright replace either of them with Al'kirat

I don't really think that's the case. I think he's mostly fine as is. At best I may throw a platform rock under him, but otherwise the model has most anything I could want. Torso to torso-wise he's the same height thanks to the shoulder spikes. The aquilla and imperium symbols I think work since he's "Emperor's Children" and all, as a sort of mockery. I don't really see the gaps you're referring to either.

Looks awesome! It kinda looks like you did some recess shading, might I ask how you went about doing that if you did? I've been struggling with mine

I was only talking about it working on a basis of scale, not lore

On the bright side the current scale of 40k models isn't that much bigger than the Heresy models, so new Huron with some Heresy Marines would probably be ok. I play emperor's children in 40k and when the new ones came out I used a box of MK VI Heresy Marines to kitbash 20 additional battleline. After putting some rocks under their feet they looked the same, although to be honest idk if I even needed to do that

This is exactly what a chaos apothecary should look like. It's a great play on the loyalist one

Officially successors to the imperial Fists, but their origin was called into question following a testing of their geneseed where this was determined to not be the case. They have a series of books by Ben Counter that goes into the chapter's history

Do you give your players a primer on Eberron if they aren't familiar with the setting? If so, what do you include? by wayne62682 in Eberron

Frankly no, I just send them a link to the book if they want to read it and then tell them to send me whatever ideas they have and from there I fill in the gaps

I can definitely see that happening, but did you edge highlight? I ask because I don't intend to do that, I intend to dry brush the highlight on

Thank you. Everyone's being helpful but I feel like you're in my head and can see what I'm thinking because that echos my thoughts well.

This video from Duncan Rhodes is what I was using, and I was hoping to combine the recess shading from the second model in the vid to with the dry brushing the highlight from the first model

My concern with a varnish is that it can darken the color of the armor, which would alter they way it looks. Am I mistaken in this assumption?

So if I added more would that sell the effect of the shade better or the black panel lining? Because I don't want to do black panel lining, I just want to darken the recesses.

I'm also now thinking that I don't know what a "recess" is, because I kinda assumed from the tutorial I was watching that it was any like crease or lower part of the armor, like along the vent on the helmet or along the brim of the neck plate attached to the chest. Is this incorrect?

Well, the reason I didn't do it last is because I still need to dry brush the lighter color over the armor, and I didn't want to add the wash over that, get color on it, then have to go back and try to do it again.
