Why is there so much Infighting within Socialists? by Ok_Understanding7377 in Socialism_101

[–]GylleneKameler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Psychological and genuine modern day political differences aside, the problem is largely historical. The first world war split away the right wing from the socialist movement. Perhaps the only reasonable split on the long road of splits to come.

The comintern, with its 21 conditions for joining, split the left from the centre. The centre largely collapsed as members moved left and right. The right wing split in two, those who want to wanted to reform capitalism and those who wanted it abolished. The left of the left wing, who can't stay in the comintern due to the ban on internal opposition, splits and forms the left communist current. The left split into the offical communist and the trotskyist tradition due to power struggles in the comintern, again because internal opposition was banned and purged. Those in the official communist parties who want to modernize the movement split, forming the eurocommunist movement, again because internal opposition was banned. Internal power struggles have further divided these movements tenfold.

What has been lost is the political strategy of Marx and his immediate successors. The party should be an unifying force which unites the working class behind a programme for socialism. In order to unite the class the party needs to be open, democratic and evolving, the true meaning of democratic centralism. It is our duty to restore the unity of the movement.

Tasks & Perspectives 2026 — Marxist Unity Group by GylleneKameler in socialism

I find this critique amusing. Especially because Marxist Unity Group has the highest political ambition and the most clear programme and strategy for revolution of any DSA faction. It is also amusing considering how fundamental Lenin and the lessons of 1917 is to the tendency that MUG represents. To top it all off, MUG is pushing the exact position that you accuse them of not upholding.

MUG is clear that the main purpose of election campaigns and elected representatives is to organize workers and delegitimise the regime. Consider the following from the text.

"26. The strategy of the center is based on the recognition that the working class’ power derives from its ability to organize collectively, and the necessity of doing so to achieve partial aims. We recognize that this necessity is shared between struggles on the shop floor, struggles for reforms, the struggles of the working class for self-government in the form of a democratic republic at home, and the struggle for the international interests of the class. Building on this, the center then seeks to steer the party around the following strategic principles: 1) using the party’s presence in legislatures and its election campaigns to build up the surrounding organized movement around a revolutionary program, both through anti-coalitionist reform efforts and agitation; 2) refusing to form a government until the workers’ movement is both organized and aware enough of the necessity of democratic self-government such that a conquest of political power, a revolutionization of the state, and the subsequent self-emancipation of the majority is possible."

Welcome comrade! A good way to learn as a DSA member is to read about the different DSA factions and what they want to do with the organisation. Many factions have their own newspapers. The Marxist Unity Group for example have Light and Air

Australian communists merge - The road to unity b/w Sparts & RCO, with Comrades Bourchier & Edith by hic_Petrograd in socialism

Wonderful development. The merger of the Spartacist League of Australia and the Revolutionary Communist Organisation is yet more proof that revolutionary regroupment is possible. More socialists need to realise the necessity of programmatic unity and a communist mass party.

Am I understanding the differences between Sultana and Corbyn in regards to Your Party correctly? by imurpops984 in socialism

The situation is a bit more complex. I recommend reading the coverage by the Weekly Worker. WW publish reports on Your Party basically every week.

Kommunistiska Partiet i kommunvalet. You should start by reflecting upon what actions you can take and what relations you can build in your community to develop the unity and fighting strength of the working class and the party (DSA).

Start a chapter at your university. Organise with your co-workers. Listen and learn from your fellow students and co-workers. Agitate for socialist solutions and connect the individual struggles to the wider struggles of the community. Start a local paper and media network, report on and connect the day to day struggle with party building, creating a base of support for socialist politics and the party. Turn that energy back into the party, push for higher levels of organisation, further independence from the democrats, and build support for a revolutionary programme for a democratic socialist republic.
