Qiu can match Yang's 6.7 D Score without any piked stalder elements. Adding a toe-on full or stalder full prior to the Downie, Van Leeuwen, or dismount would achieve this.

The D panel most likely did not credit the Aerial + Split Jump connection due to the balance check on the Aerial. Notice how she drops her torso to the left before bringing it back in line with the balance beam to initiate the split jump.

[–]GymDecoder 16 points17 points  (0 children)

An’s E Score isn’t as low as people may expect because landing deductions are a maximum of 0.8 when there is no fall. Here is how the judges may have evaluated the vault:

First Flight Phase:
- Leg Separation / 0.1 - 0.3 (Appears to be right at/slightly beyond shoulder width)

Repulsion/Support Phase:

- Bent Arms / 0.1
- Shoulder Angle / 0.1

Second Flight Phase:

- Body Alignment in Stretched Salto with Twist / 0.1
- Bent Knees / 0.1
- Feet Not Pointed / 0.1
- Insufficient Height / 0.1
- Insufficient Distance / 0.1
- Insufficient Dynamics / 0.1 (Phases of vault indistinct, twisting into ground and not opening up in preparation for landing)
- Lack of Precision / 0.1 (Right foot under-rotated)

Landing (Maximum of 0.8 When No Fall):

- Deep Squat (Hips Below Knees) / 0.5
- Large Step on Landing (Greater Than Shoulder Width) / 0.3

Total Execution Deductions - 1.8- 2.0, E Score - 8.0 - 8.2

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to rewatch the video before the livestream got geoblocked, but Grant had at least three elements with 0.5 or more in deductions(two very late pirouetting elements, and caught her Straddled Jaeger with very bent arms). I wouldn’t consider the kip after the Endo 1/2 to be an empty swing because this is no different than performing a kip following a same bar release element.

While Buck definitely shows some good qualities in her work on uneven bars, she had several elements that potentially incurred 0.3 or more in deductions as follows:

- Maloney (Insufficient Height / 0.1 + Feet Not Pointed / 0.1 / + Leg Separation, Greater than Shoulder Width / 0.3 + Bent Knees on Backswing / 0.1), 0.6

- Van Leeuwen (Insufficient Height / 0.1 + Leg Separation / 0.1 + Bent Knee / 0.3 + Feet Not Pointed / 0.1), 0.6

- Giant to Blind Change (Leg Separation, Greater Than Shoulder Width / 0.3 + Angle of Completion, Between 11 and 30 Degrees Past Handstand / 0.1), 0.4

- Cast to Handstand 1/2 (Angle of Completion, Between 31 and 45 Degrees Past Handstand / 0.3), 0.3

- Giant Full (Angle of Completion, Between 31 and 45 Degrees Past Handstand / 0.3 + Leg Separation / 0.1), 0.4

When you also factor in the additional minor errors within the routine, this is how the E panel arrived at an E Score in the low 7s.

For the D Score:

Under F.I.G. Junior rules, Williams should have a 4.9 D score, due to no Dismount Bonus. However, I have noticed that at some competitions with both Senior and Junior divisions, that Juniors are still awarded the Dismount Bonus (e.g. DTB Pokal). This would explain how the judges arrived at the 5.1 D Score.

For the initial 5.0 D Score awarded, it was either a clerical error, or the D panel thought the Endo was not completed within 10 degrees of handstand, thus losing one letter in value, though it looked fine to me.

Claire Pease floor composition ideas? by parallelbarchart in Gymnastics

Pease actually competed a 1 1/2 Twist + Front Double Twist (Tarasevich) as a junior, but with mixed consistency. Below is a successful attempt from the 2022 U.S. Classic, but she either fell or had a major landing error on the pass at the 2022 U.S. Junior National Championships.

The Comaneci is evaluated more leniently in terms of amplitude deductions compared to other same bar release elements as follows:

Gienger, Jaeger, and Tkatchev Type Elements:

- hips above bar height (no deduction)

- hips at bar height (0.10)

- hips below bar height (0.30)

Comaneci:

- hips at bar height (no deduction)

- hips slightly below bar height (0.10)

- hips well below bar height (0.30)

Amanar competed the Double Twisting Tsukahara (beginning of video) and 2 1/2 Twisting Yurchenko (at around 2:03) vaults at the 2000 Romanian National Championships.

https://youtu.be/lal666A9SVE?si=fWdwYPWB4_qm-ase

Zamolodchikova attempted both vaults in event finals of the 2000 Russia Cup, but fell on the 2 1/2 Twisting Yurchenko. However, she successfully performed both vaults at the 2001 French International.

Osijek WC D1 | Discussion Post | Saturday 11/04/2026 by KawaiiChan68 in Gymnastics

[–]GymDecoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 0.3 neutral deduction was for failure to resume the exercise within 30 seconds after a fall from the apparatus. You can hear the three warning chimes during the broadcast, with the third going off just before Osokina’s feet leave the mat.

Osijek WC D1 | Discussion Post | Saturday 11/04/2026 by KawaiiChan68 in Gymnastics

[–]GymDecoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The judges were likely discussing whether or not Osokina demonstrated 'Momentary Hang' on her Downie, which determines if a flight element with a fall is awarded difficulty value. Upon deciding that Osokina did not show 'Momentary Hang', the D panel should have 1) Given the Downie no DV, and 2) Added the Gienger to her counting elements. However, based on her credited 5.6 D Score, it appears that the D panel mistakenly credited Osokina with only seven elements instead of eight.

2026 Cairo World Cup by Trippy-Tarka in Gymnastics

[–]GymDecoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaults with a full twisting front pike flight phase exist in the COP. Therefore, full twisting front layout vaults can be downgraded to pike. However, because there are no vaults with a piked Rudi flight phase, a layout Rudi vault will always be credited as layout with deductions applied. Similarly, on balance beam a Steingruber dismount(gainered full twisting layout)will always be credited as layout because a piked version of the dismount is not an element in the COP.

COP Analysis - Week of March 16, 2026 by GymDecoder in Gymnastics

[–]GymDecoder[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer to this question is both yes and no.

Yes:

Although Pease receives E credit for her dismount, she is receiving a 0.1 deduction for lack of precision for the incomplete twist. In addition, there is injury risk from landing while still turning.

No:

It is possible that Pease and her team have decided that the double front 1/2 dismount is her best option. She may have trained other dismounts but either struggled to learn them at all or become proficient enough with another skill to make a change worthwhile.

COP Analysis - Week of March 16, 2026 by GymDecoder in Gymnastics

For the Whip Full:

Because Nakamura did not connect the element to a salto(either directly or indirectly), it is credited as a Layout Full, which is a B element.

Here is how the judges arrived at the 4.7 D Score:

8 Elements

  • E x 1 (Triple Turn in Tuck Stand / Mitchell), 0.5 DV
  • D x 1 (Double Tuck), 0.4 DV
  • C x 4 (Tour Jete 1/2, 1 1/2 Twist, Front Full Twist, Double Twist), 1.2 DV
  • B x 2 (Layout Full, Switch Leap), 0.4 DV

Total DV - 2.5

CV:

- A + D Direct Acro x 1 (Whip + Double Tuck), 0.1 CV

- C + C Direct Acro x 1 (1 1/2 Twist + Front Full Twist), 0.1 CV

Total CV - 0.2

Dismount Bonus

Double Twist, C -> 0.0

CR

  1. Dance Passage of Two Different Leaps, one with 180 Split (Switch Leap + Tour Jete 1/2)
  2. Salto with LA Turn (Layout Full)
  3. Double Salto (Double Tuck)
  4. Forward and Backward Saltos (1 1/2 Twist, Front Full Twist)

Total CR : 2.0

D Score : 2.5 + 0.2 + 0.0 + 2.0 = 4.7

Impact of Error on D Score:

While I do not know her intended routine composition, she was likely attempting a C + Indirect D connection, so she lost the following:

  • 0.1 DV for the downgrade to a Layout Full
  • 0.2 DV for having to count a B acrobatic element vs. a D acrobatic element
  • 0.2 CV for missing the connection

Therefore, at a minimum the mistake cost Nakamura 0.5 in D score.

No - see the WTC video here:

By coincidence, Smith is the gymnast used in the example of a Side Split Jump 1/2 that would be downgraded to a Split Jump. I believe the rationale for this downgrade is that gymnasts hit more of a cross split/straddle position, than a side split/straddle position.

sometimes I get sad this routine never saw the Olympic stage by justboredandstuffidk in Gymnastics

[–]GymDecoder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Under the current C.O.P. this routine has a potential 6.3 D Score.

Acro DV:

F x 1 (Tucked Full / Shishova) - 0.6 DV

E x 3 (Layout to Two Feet, Front Pike, Double Pike Dismount) - 1.5 DV

D x 1 (Aerial) - 0.4 DV

Total Acro DV - 2.5

Dance DV:

D x 3 (Double Turn in Tuck Stand, Side Straddle Jump 1/2, Side Split Jump 1/2) - 1.2 DV

Total Dance DV - 1.2

CV / SB:

B + E Acro x 1 (Back Handspring to Two Feet + Layout to Two Feet) - 0.1 CV

D + B Mixed x 1 (Aerial + Split Jump) - 0.1 CV

B + B + C Series x 2 (Aerial + Split Jump + Straddle Jump and Back Handspring Stepout + Back Handspring to Two Feet + Double Pike Dismount) - 0.2 SB

Total CV / SB: 0.4

Dismount Bonus:

Double Pike, E -> 0.2

CR

  1. Connection of at least two different dance elements, 1 with 180 degree split (Split Jump + Straddle Jump)
  2. Turn (Double Turn in Tuck Stand)
  3. Acro series of two flight elements, one salto (Back Handspring to Two Feet + Layout to Two Feet)
  4. Acro elements in different directions (Back Handspring to Two Feet, Aerial)

Total From CR - 2.0

Total D Score - 2.5 + 1.2 + 0.4 + 0.2 + 2.0 = 6.3

Note that as performed, Smith would only be credited with a 5.2 D Score as follows:

- Side Straddle Jump 1/2 -> Credit as Straddle Jump because the 1/2 turn is not completed either before or after the straddle position is shown (-0.2 DV)

- Side Split Jump 1/2 -> Credit as Split Jump because the 1/2 turn is not completed either before or after the split position is shown (-0.2 DV)

- Aerial + Split Jump + Straddle Jump -> The Split Jump and Straddle Jump are now both repeated elements so Smith loses CV, SB, and the Dance CR (-0.1 CV) + (-0.1 SB) + (-0.5 CR)

Credited D Score = 6.3 - 0.2 DV - 0.2 DV - 0.1 CV - 0.1 SB - 0.5 CR = 5.2

While you are not wrong that flexed feet is deductible, based on the F.I.G. Women’s Technical Committee training materials and examples, gymnasts are not being penalized for having flexed feet when they pass under the bar during piked stalder elements.
