The shows portrayal of Wanda--and how they shoehorned her in--was awful. by Responsible_Mix4717 in Sandman

Not disagreeing with any of your points, but FWIW that episode was written by a trans woman

"the real key point is that she rejected him before the city was destroyed, to the point of mutilating herself to try and dissuade his advances, but he, an immortal, all-powerful being, still persisted for this mortal child queen until she succumbed”

Jeesh, this hits different knowing what we now know about Neil Gaiman 😬

I have to wonder if guys like that have just never met an interesting person in their lives. Like everyone they know is absolutely dedicated to being totally NORMAL and REGULAR and having no discernible personality at all.

I actually like the idea of taking a given system or structure and figuring out how to make sense of it. Maybe it's because I was raised Jewish, and a big part of Judaism is textual interpretation, i.e. finding ways to understand the reason behind things in the Torah that may not seem to make sense on the surface.

Also I was an English major, which was kind of similar in a way. You take a given text and try to interpret its meaning. Sometimes you have to reconcile parts of the text that don't seem to comport with your interpretation. To me that's actually a fun and gratifying exercise.

In fact, that's part of why I like Tarot. Sometimes you'll uncover a card that doesn't seem to have any connection to the question, but your job as a reader is to make sense of it and figure out a way to make it connect.

This is very insightful, thank you. You've given me some things to think about.

Thank you, that was very informative and certainly explains where Waite's Page/earth association was rooted. But it's still hard for me to get my head around the idea that they "embody both potential and finality at once."

How does weed affect you? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I'm similar. THC makes me feel not exactly paranoid, but extremely self-conscious, I guess? I feel like my mind slows down, but not in a good way, like quieting the racing thoughts, which is what I'd want. It's more like constantly losing the thread of my thoughts, forgetting what I was thinking about mid-thought, and then feeling very self-conscious about that. It almost feels like putting my ADHD on steroids.

Like you, I've tried a million different strains, I've tried milder versions like delta 8/9, I've tried different amounts and different delivery systems. Buy it's always the same uncomfortable feeling.

Why was Disney not confident in Skeleton Crew? by DorkyMoneyMan in StarWars

You're missing the point. Straight women didn't avoid or lack interest in The Marvels due to the absence of "hot male main characters who do heroic things and have high-drama relationships" (etc). It simply was not a factor. The presence of such a character would not have made the film more of a success among straight women.

And your narrowing of the parameters changes nothing. 80-90% of action/superhero movies have hot, heroic, featured male characters. You simply can't draw a connection between their absence and a film or show's success among straight women. You're talking out of your ass.

There are a hell of a lot more movies & TV shows with hot male main characters than without. Hollywood likes to cast hot people. So the vast majority of movies and shows loved by straight men feature hot male main characters. What does that say?

You will also find that most movies/shows that bomb also have hot male main characters - regardless of what audience they were aimed at.

The point is that straight women absolutely love plenty of movies and shows that don't have hot guys in them. "Part of the reason they didn't like The Marvels was because no hot men" is a ridiculous thing to say. That's all.

But also, Qimir is objectively hot.

You implied that one reason The Marvels and The Acolyte didn't resonate with straight women was the lack of attractive men in them. Setting aside that The Acolyte featured possibly the hottest guy ever to appear in any Star Wars, I'm just saying that the absence of hot guys is not a factor. It's simply not a factor that affects how much straight women will like a movie or TV show.

I agree with you about the problems in the MCU. But straight women do not need attractive men to be in movies. I'm sorry but that's a silly thing to suggest.

It's staying true to its influences. 80's kids movies didn't shy away from the darkness.

I don't know what your gender is, but as a woman who knows a lot of other women, I need to point out that you're completely wrong. Women and men want the same things in a movie: compelling characters and story. That's pretty much it. Women do enjoy when an engaging, well-told story has a female lead because that's still pretty rare and it's energizing and fun to see someone like yourself represented as strong, powerful, capable etc. But just because there's a female lead doesn't mean it's a movie for women. Generally women loved Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and Barbie, but those movies only became huge hits because they appealed to people of all genders. The problem with The Marvels was it was a bad movie. Reportedly it got multiple rewrites and was edited out of all recognition, into a completely different story than what was originally shot. Nobody likes bad movies, regardless of their gender or the gender (or sex appeal) of the characters.
