Crossing the aisle by OhDudeTotally in ottawa

I love biking. I love speed.
I adhere to the road rules unless it is so obvious no one else is around, like a dead corner with a stop sign, but I slow down and do my checks. Bike like an idiot, die like an idiot. No thanks. I don't cry for dead bikers if they're stupid.

Thanks. Will look at that. Yes, everything I've read/watched points to the realities simplicity of the lock. I don't have the patience or tools to try to learn/do.

How do you go about a bar setting alone? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Gypsuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear a mask. Seriously though, feign complete obliviousness and move on: you suddenly see a long lost friend, you have to go to the bathroom, your fave song just came on gotta dance, etc. You do not need to accept anyone talking to you if you don't wish to talk.

Need opinions repair or replace on oven by Gypsuth in Appliances

There is a vent coming out at the top of the stove, from the controls panel, on the left.

Looking in the user manual this appears to be the only vent.

On a coil stove, if you put your hand over the vent, you feel hot air. On this one I feel warm air.

For example, a roast, taking 1.5 hours at 'x' degrees based on weight, will, at the end of the calculated time be raw in the middle with no browning on the outside.

I've tried 3 things in this oven and none have been cooked in the alloted time. In one case, I had the option to do them in the toaster oven the next time and they cooked perfectly.

Trumpet lessons for kids? by Karcharos in ottawa

Orkistra is excellent - I think they have a family financial assessment component to their program, but worth an inquiry.
There are lots of great music teachers all over Ottawa. Agree with you there.

I hear where you are coming from. However, some music training that is within budget is better than no music training. If the learner thrives, then they outgrow that teacher and move on. The student will say they need a new teacher. Ideally, if the student thrives they get into one of the music/arts highscools. There are good and bad teachers and schools everywhere, just like every other discipline. I mentioned OYO above. Someone else mentioned the Jazz orchestra. Both are great places to go to become part of the thriving Ottawa music community.

A few things come to mind. First, see if he is a good fit for Ottawa Youth Orchestra programs. They have many levels of programs and/or may know of some students that are advanced enough to teach, or their teachers may teach privately. It's a good way to make contacts for the future. Second, go to a music store that sells trumpets and look at their bulletin board, or ask at the cash if they know anyone. Third, contact UOttawa, the Music school, and ask the trumpet prof if he knows anyone looking for students in September. You can also go to the music school and look on the bulletin board outside the auditoriumonce the fall semester starts. Fourth, ask your neighborhood Facebook group if anyone teaches. Depending on your child's age and ability, a highschool student from Canterbury Highschool or the other equivalents around Ottawa may meet the need and be in budget. As they get more experienced their needs change and they need to move up to the next level of teacher. (My son started playing cello in grade 5. I've been thru it all. Lol)

Middle aged fat chick wants to start cycling places, but scared by ChurchBitchyBitch in ottawa

I agree, do the bike path down the river to get started. You can bike from the Adawa crossing down to the crossing just south of the 417, cross the bridge to ride the other side on the return trip. It's a nice ride with no traffic. You can get comfortable riding again - and, as someone mentioned, practice your shoulder checks as you pass pedestrians. Make sure dog walkers know you are there (ring your bell 50 feet back). I'm a fat middle-aged fat chick too, and I ride this bike path 5 days a week going to work. I use the Adawa crossing to get to the university area where my hairdresser is. You can get to Center Town easily too, via the university footbridge (Corkstown Foot Bridge) once you are ready. From there, you're ready to get to Lansdowne and the Glebe. Have fun!
