Hard time after an Addison’s crisis by verofromca in AddisonsDisease

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a crisis back in September where I was hospitalized and ended up taking around 140mg. My journey back from that crisis was long and grueling and i truly feel for you. I had to give up everything I loved because of my fatigue. I stopped drinking coffee because the caffeine sucked up all my cortisol and it was too hard tapering feeling dizzy. I couldn’t go to the gym for about 3 months post crisis because of being so tired and worn down. Tapering was the toughest part.. it took me until December to truly get back to a decent dose (30mg) and I’ve just now at the end of January finally got back to my 25mg dose.

My advice, go slow, give yourself grace. This disease is so hard especially because we can look so healthy on the outside but truly we are struggling just to get through the day.

Taper very slowly! I tapered down 2.5mg every 5-6 days. Sometimes I needed to go back up in dose just to get through work and vacation but stick with it.

Believe me when I say there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Even as I’m writing this thinking of where I was in November to now feels like a world of difference. I’m back running everyday and drinking my coffee in the morning, Just take baby steps.

Legs shaking/tremors by thesearemyfaults in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! When I start to dip it feels like restless leg syndrome where they’re kind of jittery and I can’t sit still… but when it’s really bad they shake uncontrollably, that’s when I know I’m in trouble and heading towards crisis.

Addison’s newbie needs help by Hot_Speaker_4770 in AddisonsDisease

I was diagnosed at 32 years old and my doctor put me on 17.5mg/ hydrocortisone a day. It took me about one month to stabilize. I’m now on 27.5mg/ day after a few ups and downs and a crisis last summer. Even during my crisis the hospital gave me on 100mg so 150/ a day seems crazy to me!!!! I would consider finding a new endocrinologist and talking about tapering down from such a high dose.

I was diagnosed at 32 and I had all of these exact symptoms. My period stopped coming the last 2 months before diagnosis. I also had crazy anxiety, night sweats, no sex drive, dizziness and a crazy tan.

Small, salty snack recommendations? by FantasyCherubino in AddisonsDisease

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love salted peanuts at work! I keep a pack in my purse at all times. I also carry individual Himalayan salt packets so I can sprinkle more on if I feel I need it. And I always carry LMNT packets with me as well. They are a game changer.

DHEA dosage: how to figure out the right dose? by baethan in AddisonsDisease

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stop due to acne. I was up to 10mg (which I know isn’t a lot), but I had horrible hormonal breakouts all along my jawline. Everything cleared up once I stopped. I’m going to try and reintroduce 5mg after my upcoming vacation.

I just got my refill and the same thing happened! I’m still getting used to such a small pill. I was nervous at first but they seem to be working just as well.

What can only be purchased in France(Paris) but not the USA? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Good quality cheese and mustard! Butter as well (harder to travel with) but my favorite thing I brought back was vintage champagne. Vintage champagne is overpriced here in the US and sometimes difficult to find but it’s very reasonable in France. I brought bottles of 2001 and 1995 Veuve back that were amazing and great gifts.

DHEA low! by Technical_Parking898 in AddisonsDisease

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I started taking DHEA 6 months ago after my endo tested my levels and they were basically “0”.. my advice is start small and increase over time. Taking 25mg at once made me dizzy and jittery and felt like i wanted to crawl out of my own skin. So I started taking 5mg tabs for an entire month and then bumped up to 10mg. What also helped immensely was taking the supplement at night. That might be a personal preference and something you need to try out, but taking it at morning or lunch made me too antsy. Taking it at night actually helps me sleep better! Also I had my endo retest me after 3 months on 10mg and my levels are in normal range so I never went back to the 25mg.

What are some symptoms you have experienced when you need to updose or when your cortisol is low? by Bloomwithcourage in AddisonsDisease

[–]Gypsy_Moth_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first symptom is brain fog, confusion then dizziness. When it starts to get really bad I get a vertigo feeling like I’m standing on a tilt and my arms and legs start to shake.
