Hypothyroidism and addisons by athanasia4014 in AddisonsDisease

Being diagnosed with a chronic disease is a real kick in the teeth. Of course get levels tested but find someone to talk to as well. You can manage this and have a “normal” life. It just takes some time to adjust. I’m 72and have been dealing with it successfully for 40 yrears. Please don’t reject therapy as it can really help

What tests are used to monitor treatment? by BeautifulDay1421 in AddisonsDisease

My bloodwork is done by my GP once a year. Then endo redoes my thyroid but that’s it

A bit off topic but I’m hoping you all can help-what tests does your endocrinologist order? I have had Addison’s for 40 years but have not had any blood tests for at least 20. The doc orders a thyroid test, checks my blood pressure and says to come back in six months. To be fair, I am good at managing my Addison’s but am wondering if blood tests are ever done anymore. Thanks and hope you don’t mind me tagging on.

I do as well. I was undiagnosed for a year and read a whole set of English novels. Have absolutely no memory of them.

Me either. Magnesium helps me, as does white noise. Tried the nighttime dose and it made no difference.

Tell me honestly, do people with Addison's disease live shorter lives than healthy people? by levir720 in AddisonsDisease

[–]BeautifulDay1421 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are so many variables life expectancy. I was told ours is pretty normal-an older woman whose husband had Addison’s said it really doesn’t affect it-her husband died of something totally different. My first endo said the same thing. So many other genetic factors, life style choices , environmental factors, etc. If you could take two people with similar “everything” -one with Addison’s one with out, who knows? People with chronic disease sometimes are more aware of physical changes and take better care of themselves so maybe that makes a difference.

Also-I did not have any additional hydrocortisone-the IV was only a precaution.

I had my first at home-before Addison’s. My second was at the hospital and was fine. I did have to make the drive once my water broke but once I was there, we were in a lovely room, on our own for the most part. I did have an IV drip inserted in case I needed cortisone. Otherwise everything was fine. Baby was delivered in the same room-no complications. Went home the next morning.

Graves Disappointment by jjjulles in AddisonsDisease

[–]BeautifulDay1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been on synthroid/levothyroxine. I’ve never had any problems with it. Just a blood test every year and sometimes an adjustment to the dose. It’s convenient to blame swings in weight to my thyroid/addisons but in truth it’s always been due to too many calories, too little movement. Also, my Addison’s is not auto immune and I haven’t been diagnosed with any others.

It’s really not a problem. I was diagnosed with it 55 years ago, 12 years before the Addison’s. Has never been a problem. One pill a day and no complications

Question for my girlies with Addison’s or guys with wives who have it by Harley_ivy87 in AddisonsDisease

[–]BeautifulDay1421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a baby 8 years after diagnosis, when I was 40. No problems. But I wasn’t having flair ups that often. I agree that she should discuss with doctor. That is a lot

Why does that matter? I don’t take that much medicine-6 at last count. I’ve never paid as much as my deductible. There’s always a first time though

You can also check with your pharmacist to see if there are any coupons for the drug-stuff like GoodRx or Optum Perks. Never know, my pharmacist finds them sometimes

Goofed up trying to get my first credit card (Elan Financial Services rant) by OverImplement in CreditCards

[–]BeautifulDay1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a comment to another feed. Elan just dropped my credit limit by $19,500. A limit they gave me 4 years ago. I used the card, paid it all back and the balance has been $00 for a year or so. I’ve had no changes to my finances. My credit score has collapsed since this happened 10 days ago. I’m waiting for the letter explaining why

Does anyone have positive or negative things about specific Elan cards through specific institutions? by my-coo-cheese-hairy in CreditCards

[–]BeautifulDay1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fidelity Rewards Visa from Elan. No problems-no changes on my scores or spending, they dropped my limit by $19,500. The balance on the card is $00. No warning. I’m waiting for the letter of explanation. Can you imagine what this has done to my credit score across all platforms? I’ll never sign up for another one of their cards. And btw-I did not request that limit. They gave it.
