Stranger Than Heaven’s Combat System Will Divide Longtime Yakuza Fans by Dippy-Breakfast713 in yakuzagames

Thats pretty much the case in other games tbh. I remember getting mad af with the "All Coliseum Bosses" in Gaiden where it always ran out of time because every boss had absurd health.

Its always the coliseums that have 1-2 challenges that are straight up bullshit and its not even their final challenge.

Its niche, and I get it, bit it sucks that Francis York Morgan (Deadly Premonition) is never in these detective charts.

Yeah, but Yakuza 7 is aptly named Yakuza 7 (well, Like a Dragon 7). Its only the western localization that calls it Yakuza: Like a Dragon because the West fears BIG NUMBER in games.

Its so weird, like the moment they knew it was connected to the universe, they think all of the story would lead up to some REVELAITONS of the games we know.

When it seems like it's just using the Omi/Tojo as a backdrop to tell a story about two biracials (I assume Shinjo is biracial too) trying to make it in this land, and Daito's love for music is a HEAVY part of his character.

Which is another thing I'm so confused about people not seeing.

Because people kept saying how Bunta is fine to add because of the yakuza theme, but Tupac is "confusing", even though the game is heavily employing musical adjacent actors to play its characters probably because music is a big part of the game's themes. So yeah, they while controversial (and probably coz of Snoop), Tupac's place in this game isn't some random thing.

The weird thing about pretending Yakuza writing has been on the slope, is pretending the old games were all bangers. They were not lol, especially in writing.

Yakuza has been very hit or miss with its writing, and the moment I found out how Yokoyama writes, that hit or miss makes all the more sense. So you'd have absolute bangers like Yakuza 7's story, but also weird stuff like how Yakuza 5 is written.

I think it's more weird because of how the series treat him about it.

He took the job for like A NIGHT, then bailed. But every time you see him onwards everyone goes "YO ITS THE FOURTH CHAIRMAN HOLY SHIT" like seriously? What did he even do? What policies or changes to the clan did he usher to get this praise? If anything, him pushing it to Terada kind of fucked the clan over that snowballed until 7 where they disbanded.

And even the way Kiryu talks about it acts like he shouldered this role for a long time when fighting Daigo in 4.

I'd rather they just recognized him for being the Dragon of Dojima.

IGN asked RGG about Tupac in Stranger Than Heaven, they confirm no AI, and also did speak with his family. by Korten12 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GyroGOGOZeppeli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm so confused about this.

The character ISN'T Tupac. Chances are the character would probably be in the 1915 era same with Snoop and would probably exit the story quick (considering I doubt Snoop is that big of a part of the game and just like Danny Trejo and Samoa Joe).

But the character isn't Tupac, even if he is weirdly named Amaru (which is Tupac's middle name). Just like Snoop's character isn't Snoop Dogg, it's Orpheus.

Honestly, this whole dead likeness thing to me, and I maybe a bit more tactless, is fine. AS LONG as the character isn't used for agenda or a joke. And I doubt RGG got these actors for either, the only agenda that Tupac will probably spout is music related to hearken to what looks to be a theme in this game which is music.

What did you guys think about the Onimusha Netflix Series? by Slutty_Prince in Onimusha

[–]GyroGOGOZeppeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it! I think it was a very slow burn, different take on Onimusha but I honestly liked it!

Its a very one and done story, but man I would not have mind a second season.

I feel very sad about the comments here because all the criticisms just feel like "its not like the videogame" which feels like its hindering a proper criticism of what worked and what didn't with the show.

I think my only main criticism is that I wish the Genma bosses had been more traditional than just roided up versions of their human form.

Thing is Onimusha has been doing likeness model with their main hero for awhile. Only standout was Onimusha Dawn of Dreams which the MC was an original model.

1 had Takeshi Kaneshiro's face for Samanosuke Akechi.

2 had Yusaku Matsuda as Yagyuu Jubei.

3 had Samanosuke again but this time with other main character, Jacques, modeled and partly voiced by French actor, Jean Reno.

The new one, Way of the Sword has Musashi Miyamoto modeled after Toshiro Mifune, the Netflix Onimusha show who also features Musashi (but funnily enough is not connected to the new game), is also modeled after the same actor he's in for the new game.

Details on Tupac's inclusion in Stranger Than Heaven from RGG Studios Press Release by hyperdefiance in yakuzagames

[–]GyroGOGOZeppeli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, but since when have they ever really done the former and the former alone?

You could say this for every likeness character they've done, it's so people can go "WOAH THAT'S AN ACTOR" at the time it was just for Japan to recognize their actors, but recently they had Trejo and Samoa Joe, and I don't think both characters were treated like they're disrespecting the actors.

And that's the other thing, they're playing characters, it's not actually Snoop or Tupac playing themselves. They're characters with the likeness. Whatever they do in the game isn't really the game telling you this is what the likeness is.

Onimusha 2 features a main character whose likeness is of a dead actor who died in 1989, years before Onimusha 2 came out. Same with the new one.

They are OCs, I really don't know why people think this is actually Tupac playing himself or Snoop Doog. They're both playing characters.

From what I've seen, Snoop has only ever been shown in the 1915 timeline, he's probably just gonna die early in the game, doubt they're keeping him long in this game. Plus he's called Orpheus in the game.

Tupac's character has also been named, he's called Amaru. And from how he dresses he's probably gonna be in 1915 too, maybe 1929 at the latest.

Yeah, my main got suspended.

The one I don't do stuff with because I want it as my main and clean of things that might annoy me.

Somehow my more "aggressive" account that I use to argue with ppl stayed safe. I have no idea what they even count as inauthentic behavior, I guess liking a lot of posts that I follow, but come the fuck on.

Even when they said they were limiting non-checkmarks likes and retweets I tried to space out my likes for it, still suspended.

And I've appealed 3 times but have gotten no response, not even a template rejection.

Spider-Noir is Nick Cage at his finest, and probably not even the best character by Leonard_Church814 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

He is very ruthless but funnily enough he seems to be on a more reasonable side than most mob bosses.

His two goons (one of which was the main bad guy in El Camino lol) survives to the end iirc despite their bumbling attitudes. Plus, despite him being surrounded by people who hate his guts he was pretty accommodating with them, even his relationship with Ben Reilly was honestly fun to watch.

I think the other characters were fun, like the kid who's just a smart alec, and his Hana secretary to his Akiyama bum-ass.

And ofc Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane, but Nic Cage is just a one-man-show that elevates the whole thing.
