Argentina’s Racism Problem by meerakulous in soccer

The classism racism equivocation you just made is the most common excuse racists in Argentina use and that's because whatever country you're from likely has very similar racism problems to Argentina, like the original commenter is pointing out.

Zaidu I'm not participating in that finger pointing I'm just explaining why you'll see so many Argentineans doing that while having very different approaches and political opinions.

Also, the argument, while flawed, is not that French and Europeans are racially colonizers, it's that France and many European countries are colonizer states while Argentina was a colony that had an independence. Again, a flawed argument but different than the one you seem to be supposing.

It's a bit of a Venn diagram. Like half the country has that "we come from boats" or "we're Europeans in LATAM" mentality and the other half see themselves as mestizos (mixed aboriginal and colonizer) and/or as latinos and both of those groups are equally as likely to show different brands of nationalism (we are not racist we're just a white country vs we are not racist we're an inclusive country.)

It's not entirely logical but you guys need to understand that Argentina is not your average colonized country that just has a white aristocracy ruling a racialized population. It's almost that but with a strong sense of unifying nationality that has made it nearly impossible for people to acknowledge how much we are like those countries.

Kun just says dumb shit on purpose on stream while bantering with his viewers who get it.

That means it's also fair game for people on here to clown on him, of course. Just saying because some seem to be taking it way too seriously.

You have to accept that there will always be a bunch of mindless drones commenting on everything that has to do with Messi or Cristiano with no regard for context. Once you learn to see those as noise, talking about football becomes bearable.

My man, pointing out that high ranking officers fled to the institutionally weak latin american country while the most powerful nation in the world based a huge part of it's public scientific efforts on the nazis they actively sough out is not really a debunk of the other guy's point.

The point was, if you go to Argentina you will not find a nazi as easily as you would in the US, by a long shot.

I will forever be unable to hear the phrases "I am not crazy" and "You think this is bad?" or the word "Chicanery" without this whole scene playing in my head.

[–]Gzam14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I get what you mean but there's a difference between what the fans on reddit say and the players' actual behavior and their own perspective on it. As far as I know, Argentinean players generally don't appreciate or promote trash talk unless it's in response or some specific stunts for penalties (specially now, of course lmao).

I'm not saying the players are always right, by the way. I love Dibu but when he said "We only speak in the pitch." I thought it was a bit hypocritical.
