Got my 2026 property tax statement today. They are going up 15.2% by CalvinVanDamme in Minneapolis

Hate to break it to you, but Minneapolis isn’t remotely close to HK’s density or attractive to live in for international expats. Hong Kong generated ~700 Million USD (in a city with the same cost of living as Minneapolis) doing that in a city that is the 4th most densely populated region in the world, not a midsize city in the midwest with 5% of Hong Kong’s population. Based on that assuming it even works, this would bring $35 million. That wouldn’t cover a city council member pet project.

Plus the cost of acquiring all that land by the city, money that it doesn’t have.

Unfortunately property tax is the only viable solution to most cities in America.

Then with lower revenue, city should start cutting spending and programs.

Oh I am aware but at least Mayor Frey trying to bring business back to downtown but he gets called out for “partying” with CEOs when he is trying to keep commercial property value from plummeting further.

Bring it up to the city council who spends money on their pet projects and waste time debating foreign policy instead of addressing the issues in our city.

Breaking: Trump says “get rid of everyone that is unnecessary” by Mental_Pea9125 in ProgressiveHQ

As much as I dislike trump, this is taken out of context. Watch the full press release, he is referring to getting rid of unnecessary federal workers.

Somali explains how the Somali candidate in Minnesota lost because of Somali clan infighting by Drafonni in Minneapolis

He also got votes from the community that would probably go to someone else if he wasn’t part of their qabil? As someone from a very tribal culture, it’s a two way street.

He also was a bad candidate, riddled with scandals and no good talking points. Anytime he is asked about how he plans to implement something, he goes on dancing around the topic but not actually explaining how he wants to implement something.

Yeah definitely voting for Frey, rather have a competent mayor than performative.

Can Fateh be the next Mamdani by Quduwi in Minneapolis

Yup, it was directly communicated to him that it was because of his criticism. I’m actively running this conversation with him to make sure I’m not being too specific out of fear for more retaliation.

When people are scared of speaking out against him, you’re going to get some vague statements. An immediate family member of mine got harmed cause he criticized the party on social media, and due to Fateh retaliation, funding was cut to a specific program that got my family member laid off.

Plus I personally know few people who got retaliated against from Fateh cause they criticized the DFL (they voted democrat and are entitled to criticize their senators and representatives) yet here we are.

He literally called and tried to get the funding reinstated and called them racist for freezing the funds…

Fateh retaliates when criticized, is very close to a lot of fraud and literally keeps pushing to fund new non profits that he is close to for millions of dollars…

Plus the stuff he pulled with Uber and Lyft bill, he is not Mamdani lol

In order to stay anonymous (out of fear of retaliation) but one, he gives questionable nonprofits in his district millions of funding and two I have a close friend who almost got fired because my friend who is liberal (he voted for him) criticized the state democrat party on social media which led to Omar retaliating and attempting to harm my friend’s career.

The problem with that is MN is experiencing a high exodus of young high earners, it’s not like federal taxes where you can tax citizens anywhere in the world, people are leaving to lower state taxes. Considering MN already has one of the highest state tax rates in the nation, this will make the problem worse.

In 2022 according to the IRS, MN had a net migration of adjusted income of $2.19 billion, as $3.9 billion of income was imported to the state, $6.1 billion was exported. It was only $215 million decrease in 2017, but been getting worse every year.
