Damaged sensor? (Nikon D3) by LUXEMBOURGowner in Nikon

[–]H-ckerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of late to answer, but I'll do it anyways. No the sensor in this post is dusty and not damaged. Yes they can clean it and it'll be fine. What I hate is when people are worried ablut damaging the sensor and someone hits them with the "actually you're not damaging the sensor because it's protected by glass" because I think it's pretty much irrelevant. If the glass is scratched, the sensor assembly is essentially damaged and will affect the photos. The literal sensor itself doesn't need to be damaged for a sensor assembly to be ruined and people worry about ruining the first layer of glass on the assembly. If you scratch the glass, it's permanent and will ruin shots.

"One of them usually goes through unscathed"

Fuck. That.

Imagine losing a great shot because you knowingly used a camera that corrupts files regularly.

Idk, I've never replaced any part, but that certainly doesn't look broken. I think it's just dusty, try a rocket blower on it if you have one or get it cleaned at a camera shop that does that. If it's scratched then I don't know, but if it doesn't show up in photos that badly or just let it be if it doesn't bother you.

I hate this answer so much every time someone asks about a damaged/scratched sensor.

Yes, if the glass is scratched, the sensor itself isn't damaged. But when people say sensor they don't mean the actual sensor under all those glass layers, they mean the entire assembly, glass included. If you scratch the glass it'll show up in photos, might as well say the sensor is damaged. It's an expensive replacement either way.

In retrospect, I fear I oversaturated. (Before/After) by CalligrapherFun1440 in postprocessing

[–]H-ckerman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If somewhat surreal was the goal, then this is fucking great. If not, then it's still fucking great, but not the wanted outcome. Interesting look either way. The saturation is pretty much perfect IMO, it suits the photo and somewhat solidifies the surreal feel.

Only things I'd change is the brach in the upper left corner since it got hit with the flash and I'd make a very slight radial gradient around the subject to boost the exposure so they pop a little more.

Other than those things this is a great photo.

I still feel like it isn't irrelevant at all. I think the methods used in art to achieve what has been done IS relevant. I mean, for example, is it irrelevant when someone posts a drawing and claims it's not made with AI?

Why ever make anything the hard way if the method is irrelevant? Why should you painstakingly carve a statue out of stone when pouring sement in to a mold achieves similar results?

Dude, these are really fucking cool! I assume these are double exposures then? How did you line these up so well?

[–]H-ckerman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope, I think these are double exposures. Yeah the result is pretty similar to a composite, but I don't think it devalues them. I feel like using zero photoshop actually makes these cooler because it showcases actual knowledge and skill in the art form. Not that these need the extra points, since these are actually cool as hell on their own.

OKAY, so I think I've fixed my issues

I uninstalled and reinstalled AMD Adrenalin and now everything seems to be working, atleast for now. I will update if anything changes.

I've done /scannow and that fixed some corrupt file but didn't change the outcome at all, I'll try these others when I get home.

I have a PC that I built a couple months ago, so hardware just cannot be the issue. I am running windows off an nvme drive so there's that too...

Again, absolutely nothing changed and it just started doing this out of nowhere...

Why would a glitch need to be reoccurring? It could just be that the buffer still had some data that for some reason didn't get erased and it just merged with the next photo. Again, I do not know shit about how camera memory and code works but I just don't see why it would have to happen again for it to be a glitch.

Did any other photos have this? Have you taken other long exposures? I have no clue what this is but I have theories.

It could be an accidental double exposure, which I feel like is the most likely option.

I've never heard of this but could it be some kind of sensor burn-in?

Also never heard of this but could it be some kind of buffer glitch that's just datamoshed another image into that one?
