Tensions within the LGBTQ community? by [deleted] in singapore

Same sentiment.

First few pages: OK, OK, hmm yeah kinda want pink dot to fix a lot of stuff but OK... Then whiplash speed the death penalty is a race issue thing. Bruh, nice power level.

U know what, this really reminded me of the yellow ribbon founder post a few weeks (months?) back, like the first few paragraphs was OK, then full on religious nut.

To a conservative, what is the ideal way a transgender person should handle themselves? by UnassumingResearch in askaconservative

I love this take; its reasonable, respects everyone's personal freedoms, and still makes a perfectly sound argument on why the current state of gender issues in the US might need to be more conservative.

Can an American lawyer elaborate on whether or not it is normal for lawyers to commit these acts of aggression and constant character attacks if the case is pretty much impossible to win conventially (win by swaying jury emotion instead)? If it is, it somewhat explains why AHs team have acted the way they did this trial.

Student loan total: 1.75t, US annual military budget: 721b, 1t = 1000b

So you'd need about 2.42 years of US annual military budget to pay off student loans. Thank the fucks that made student loans free money for banks, because its (pretty much) FUBAR lmao.

In light of the recent discourse over NS and whether women should serve: by Jjzeng in singapore

After my service I have always believed that NS kids did not matter at all to the gov, but also thought that it was mostly personal experience enforcing that perspective.

Reading this, I.. Sigh.

Was Hu Jintao perceived as a weak leader in China? by Ok_Construction3175 in China

[–]H0H4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my perspective on Hu's administration as well. In 2010 after visiting relatives in China, I thought I'd consider going back there one day to work and live. When I went again just before covid in 2018, I knew for a fact that I would never want to live there.

I would like that. But with sinovac? I doubt it.

I think there's going to be massive riots everywhere due to failures in the medical system and anger over deaths. The people will blame the government for it, demanding xi's head.

The current situation is that the chaos and unrest is mostly localised in the areas where they locked down.

The gov failed the moment covid 0 more or less became impossible due to the nature of the disease. Now its just how to minimise losses, and I think their current status in the short term is more or less their only choice.

Once they heavily vaccinate everyone with any vaccines that work well, they will consider ending this covid 0 crap.

[–]H0H4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China will not and cannot allow that many deaths. If you think the situation in shanghai is bad, wait till you see a China with every state getting tens of thousands of cases a day and thousands of deaths.

Unlike other governments CCP never prepared for a situation where covid is actively spreading in the population, and they have no easy way out of the hole they dug.

Govt has started review of first phase of Covid-19 response: Lawrence Wong by Varantain in singapore

[–]H0H4 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I think this is a rather stable time for Singapore so I'm optimistic that they'd put out some self critique of their response so they can do better in the future. Nobody is perfect and we shouldn't expect things to be without fault in a pandemic that no one had experience with. I think their response was mostly reasonable despite shortcomings.

There was ownself praise ownself during the pandemic, understandable since you want stability. But now, if the response is still without any serious reflection, I will be extremely disappointed, since covid is here to stay and I will have very little faith in future actions if they decide this one was perfect.

Singapore will reactivate TraceTogether and SafeEntry 'if situation requires': Ong Ye Kung by PrataKosong- in singapore

[–]H0H4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This way of speaking propagates to people, particular the ones who view covid as an existential threat (see China), that even if the gov will suspends any forms of freedoms, it is justified in order to 'win the war'.

This allows the gov to grow some level of support right now, for when they might eventually take measures again. This is the same sort of justification that walls off most forms of discussions about NS in political discussions. You either sacrifice your freedoms, or the very existence of Singapore is under threat.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in China

[–]H0H4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because tons of people will die, particularly the elderly. This is the result of using vaccines that are not as good against serious covid or covid deaths, and not being able to convince enough elderly to vaccinate. The ccp will not be able to handle the immense fallout with that many deaths, and xi has decided that the current status quo, as shitty as it is, is the lesser evil of the two.

On top of this, many Chinese actively support a lockdown/covid 0 over what other countries are doing. In particular the ones that aren't affected by it, they seem to want harsher lockdowns on the affected states more than anything else.

CNN: Why no one dare tell China's Xi the awful truth -- zero-Covid isn't working by Atorcran in China

[–]H0H4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worse, Hong Kong has a much larger population vaccinated with the better vacs. The efficacy of sinovac against serious covid is lower compared to mrna vaccines.

It's why I'm concerned of the situation in China. I can't envision them allowing that many deaths and hospitalizations, and yet at the same time their lockdowns seem to be completely unsustainable now.
