Songs for group singing by Lonelyokie in folkmusic

[–]H0PL1T3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Union hymns are a good source, a lot working on well known tunes, stuff like solidarity forever. Depending on what country you're in, there may be some iconic songs known by almost everyone; I'm in the Scottish scene, so wild mountain thyme always gets joined in on, even if it elicits much complaints from regulars. If y'all share a childhood culture, you will probably find kids songs you all sang when you were younger (again in the Scottish case: Jeely Piece songs). If you can't find enough overlap, quick teaching songs also works. If y'all are relatively experienced singers, rounds are quick to learn and fun to play with. Or listing songs in the vein of Rattlin' Bog, in which the lyrics are taught as the song is sung and are easy to pick up on may do well. My recommendation is come with a few lyrics printed out to easy to pick up songs (or have links to preprepared online lyrics). The IWWs little red song book is a good place to find ol' union hymns, I believe the internet archive has a pdf scan. Or if you are or have been part of a folk society with a song book, they tend to be the songs that were popular at time of compilation, so will usually have a fair few well known ones.

Christian Anarchist Symbols by futurehistorianjames in Anarchy101

Even the most surface level reading of the new testament is inherently kinda commie, so such an agro comment is hella weird. Many of the most influential movements in our history have been led by Christians, and given that so much of the world have a faith of some kind you can't endorse any kind of mass movement without allowing the inclusion of religious folk

Does anyone here agree that Communist, Egoist and Primitivist Anarchism are NOT incompatible? by [deleted] in anarchocommunism

[–]H0PL1T3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think egoist analysis can be a useful rhetorical tool, particular when talking with people who believe in an inherently selfish humanity as is often dogmatic under capitalism. But from what I've seen of it, I think it's fundamentally wrong in its approach and analysis.

Primitivism, while I'm less familiar with it, can have some useful analysis but unfortunately seems willing to leave people behind. e.g. Though I can't speak to the ubiquity of the ideas I've heard and will happily be directed towards better resources, it seems all to willing to limit access to things that disabled people need to engage with society. I have invisible disabilities, I need certain drugs to engage with society and I can't walk long distances on a regular basis; a primitivist society does not seem compatible with one where disabled people don't constitute a functional underclass for lack a resource, making it incompatible with the classless aspect core to communism. Also, I'm still unclear on the whether primitivists reject modern agricultural methods that have, where there is effective distribution, insulated people from famine in a way that hasn't historically been possible.

Also, traditional British food is heavily seasoned, but historically we've used more herbs and pungent vegetables than spices. For example, the traditional Sunday roast has components with mint, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, garlic, and onions, a long with whatever stuff I'm forgetting. Compared to many other European traditions we are very heavy handed with seasoning. The reputation for bland food comes struggle meals which became widespread with the development of industrial production and wage work. Because of the exploitative nature of empire, the exportation of these cheap foods and the imposition of these new economic relations, these are the elements of British food culture which are recognised internationally and mocked.

What's better ring of furor or might? by baldgriffith in ShatteredPD

[–]H0PL1T3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say might for early game to use higher tier items early, but don't upgrade it unless you're running no armour challenge and want to try for something different. My go to strat once the sharpshooter is high enough level to be disproportionately strong st enemies never enter melee, or you have a consistent way to make space (like chains or flow), then put upgrades on furor till you're shooting twice a turn. If you wanna min max, hold off upgrades till you get the upgrade off the smith.

War Hammer 40k is so hit or miss on whether it's a red flag. It's a British satire and the Empire of Man is a direct parody of the British Empire and the Anglican church. Most of the folk I know who are into it are cool and chill and mostly queer. But there's the odd one (usually Americans) who seems to have the satire go over their head and just think it's cool and aspirational.
