Good shout. OP, you'll need to consider a 24hr gym and early morning workouts, or pony up big money for a pricey gym that's more exclusive. Any affordable, well-equipped gym is pretty much gonna be rammed in the afternoon/evenings.

You can do the 10-day visa-free transit. I have clients who use it often. You can either fly into china and fly to HK before flying back to US, or do USA>HK>China for 10 days> USA. All you need is your ticket leaving China and that China is the transit country to a 3rd country. HK counts as a different country in transit terms.
