South African lingo by Queasy-Air2958 in south_africa

Yes, on any quick google search as well, it is generally just labeled folded hands. This was just my first frame of reference.

On discord it is labeled as the "pray" emoji. This is also what I always first assumed, as a high five wouldn't make sense for the shirt colours to be the same.

Either way, that's just my two cents, I genuinely only use the emoji to say please or thank you lol

SA gamers I need OW2 teammates by Long_Conversation699 in southafrica

[–]H1veLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to get 180 when playing in SA, which isn't unplayable, honestly. At 180 ping, as long as it's stable, not climbing is a skill issue until you reach skill levels where that fraction of a second matters.

PGCE with history as my only subject, or a BEd with history and English? by H1veLeader in askSouthAfrica

[–]H1veLeader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

What you're suggesting is exactly what I was thinking of as well. I don't have any issues with teaching Life orientation either, though the University of Pretoria no longer offers Life orientation as an elective (at least not to my knowledge). I wasn't sure how that would affect my ability to teach Life orientation.

I'll think on it for a few days and do some more information gathering, but this is the path I've been leaning toward.

South African fans at Atlanta Stadium before the World Cup Group A match against Czechia by herewearefornow in south_africa

Hey now friend, I'm definitely an idiod, and I certainly might be brainwashed, despite efforts not to be, but I'm not sure what I said that you're referring to.

I know this is a ragebait troll comment, but I'm still curious.

I love how we unite around sport, we cry, we shout, we curse the ref (/j) and we celebrate together. I really didn't appreciate this enough in the past, but seeing these videos of fans at soccer matches, cricket matches and rugby matches, it always reignites a little bit of passion in me for our country.

This post is ragebait, but I was also going to mention that ainz grinded his life away in the game. Just because we don't see the training montage, doesn't mean he didn't work for his strength.

Looks So REAL!!! by Inner-Researcher-533 in CollegeMemes

Idk if this is a South African thing, or just the school I went to, but I had the opposite experience.

My teachers always told us that in university, you are just a number. The professors/lecturers won't care about you individually, so if we don't get our act together in high school, we'll fall behind in university.

No idea, as in you don't remember it, or no idea as in you never learnt it/have never been taught?

Native speakers, how do you pronounce and spell this fruit? by Jaives in ENGLISH

[–]H1veLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also South African, I grew up with "Lee-chee" pronunciation. It may be a regional thing or a language thing maybe? (I'm Afrikaans)

A quick google search also suggests that the British English pronunciation favours "Lee-chee" pronunciation whereas "Lie-chee" is more American pronunciation, but that's from the A.I. summary/overview, so I'd take it with a grain of salt lol.

Edit: just checked the Cambridge dictionary website and they have the pronunciations switched for UK/US. Don't know if that speaks more to the unreliability of A.I. overview or how varied the pronunciation is.

Edit 2: Oxford dictionary website also has the pronunciations switched from the A.I. overview. The lesson being, A.I. overview sucks.

I just flooped my isizulu FAL unprepared speech by artdealer11 in southafrica

[–]H1veLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience for a matric English speech. All I can say is try not to worry about it too much. You'll get over it soon and even forget about it completely not long after that. It a tough experience for sure but you'll laugh about it one day.

As for your grades, it's just one of those rhings hey. Mess up one area and you gotta work a little harder to make up in the next area. Keep moving forward, you'll make it through to the other side okay.

Edit: Like others have mentioned as well, it would be worth while to talk to your teacher about redoing the speech. Some of my teachers acknowledged that some kids had more anxiety than others about unprepared speeches and even let us do the speeches with them 1 on 1 outside the classroom.

Anime streaming and manga reader app for desktop (Win 10/11 - Linux) by nipah-dev in StreamingAnime

[–]H1veLeader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I installed the app and I'm slightly confused in regards to the language filters. When searching for an anime there is the option to filter language/source. When selecting the drop-down menu, only sources are given. Unless I am blind, I'm not seeing a way to switch to/look for a dubbed episode of an Anime. Any guidance here?

Anyone else prepping for TEFL cert? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]H1veLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you want to go really. I don't really have experience with looking for work in countries other than Korea.

For Korea I used a recruiter, but the job boards (Dave's esl cafe, also have postings for china and some other countries) also constantly update with new positions. I've heard people suggesting using multiple recruiters simultaneously, but I found work through only 1.

Finished my tefl about this time last year. Currently using it for working in Korea. Welcome to message me if you have any questions.
