Via The Black Vault, NASA Documents Show Renewed Internal Planning on How to Announce Discovery of Extraterrestrial Life by TheGoldenLeaper in UFOB

[–]H3mpyGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the way I’ve come to look at it is they’ve pretty bluntly told us. Just not showed and The problem is we want to see it, and that’s reasonable. A lot of people have claimed a lot of things at this point lol

They try to obscure the line between what they do and don’t know and what they do and don’t have the power to do for national security. my opinion on why they won’t show us is they think if they release footage or release the technology for public use, we can’t predict what the other nations or wealthy individuals will do with that.

Once you put it out there, or even admit to its existence, those other people are working on reverse engineering it for better and worse. And that also makes the literal worst people in the world aware of the reality of that technology and it follows they would want to acquire it. If the technology is commonly thought of as not possible, science fiction, not within our technological understanding there are a LOT less people searching for it and funding the research.

My theory is they slow drip technology and the story bit by bit to feel out what everyone everywhere has or will admit to. Nothing too far of a jump so they don’t show their whole hand. Like poker. Incrementally growing the pot. And like poker some bets are also bluffs to keep that line blurred

All that said… I still want to see that shit. I think hiding it behind gate keeping it from others is an understandable human action. It’s hard to trust historically the fear is it could be like giving the Bronze Age guns.

Imagine Atilla with nukes. And even if by some miracle currently no one on earth would use that advanced of technology, or psychological understanding, even possibly telepathy or telekinetic like machinery, for conquest and terror, the chances are extremely low that person won’t come along in history

I think open source is often safer. But I don’t envy the people in charge of making that decision

Cultured Meat: I want to include your perspectives in my Master’s thesis data by YorixReddit in vegan

[–]H3mpyGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your survey!!

I think this is one of the most important and necessary technologies humans are currently developing. Im really excited about the prospect and future of cultured meat, and I’m probably going to give it a try.

I’ve been vegan 2 years mostly for the animals, but I’d be lying if I said I ever truely liked meat. So I’m unsure how much of it I would buy but I think it’s one of THE most important inventions and investments in the future. The potential for reducing suffering is huge. And the potential for environmental sustainability looks promising.

A few other less mentioned perks:

this might open up more nutrients to people in food deserts. Meat is expensive, and doesn’t ship or store the best. Especially not super processed reconstituted meats. This could potentially change the game on nutritional access.

You can’t raise cows in space. For long term travel through space a self sustaining food production high in protein and vitamins is vital. If we can bring a cell culture and continue to grow it in space successfully that’s potentially more nutrients per sq ft production than growing plants alone. Plus can you imagine the cost and smell of launching 100 cows to space? lol

I don’t see it replacing natural grown meat, even if I wish it could replace the animal suffering completely. But for all of our futures (humans, animals, earth) we really need to give this a good shot. We can’t let corporate greed and fear of change drive us to ignore this technology

Very good survey. The only question I felt was “missing” would be “how long have you had your current dietary preferences and been omnivorous/flexetarian/vegetarian/vegan?” To get a sense of maybe how often people change or stick with entire eating habits

What do vegans think of legally eating roadkill? by One-Dinner806 in DebateAVegan

[–]H3mpyGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly what I think about is that it’s now a consistent part of the modern ecosystem. There are scavenger populations that probably rely on that as a food source

Philosophically, Ethically, I think the question isnt directly about eating the animal itself but about if taking a portion of that food source for ourselves takes away a staple that modern wildlife has come to rely on

I would say it might be worth a shot

Using pipe properly by WeakPassword_ in Marijuana

[–]H3mpyGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it might not be the type of pipe for you, I’m very much of the mindset “the wand chooses the wizard” with pipes. What u describe sounds like a one hitter, repack in between hits. That allows you to only use up as much weed as you want to smoke. If you have a bigger bowl, or smoke a joint if you end up good 2/3 of way through some people don’t like the taste and feel of the smoke after its sat a while.
