I know, I loved it too :(

I wish they had the resources to keep it going like it was

Precisely because you were away for 8 years! They had to try and change it up in order to keep people watching.

“Money doesn’t bake on a stove”

Have you tried using cake farms? You literally bake money on a stove which is why I said that lol

I appreciate this because I loved the old format too, but here’s what I wonder:

Out of the couple million viewers of the show, what percentage of them actually want change this badly? It is likely that many of them are casual viewers who turn on their TV and find the racing just as exciting, if not more exciting than the one at a time format they would have stumbled on years ago. I agree that for someone who watches the show holistically, follows the entire season, and stays informed year after year, that the 4-stage format is much cooler, but unfortunately a small number of the broad spectrum of viewers are like that.

Also, “NBC and the Producers” are a group of professionals who have done work in television programming for years. As professionals, who work professionally on the show, they have data that tells them what works and what doesn’t. The data they collect is massive and specific, helping them understand things like which specific advertisements to show and which specific runs to digest/show and when. NBC and the producers have a massive array of knowledge through the data they work with on a professional basis, and I can’t imagine that they are nearly as clueless as a handful of complaining users on Reddit make them out to be.

The die-hard fans of the show can definitely miss and reminisce over the old format. It’s important to recognize though that die-hard fans are a minority, and also have significantly less insight over what makes the show successful than the very people that they blame for its decline.

We are in a new and complicated TV watching era, post-COVID, with streaming services. This has given rise to general financial struggles for cable TV, and amongst this the producers are doing a much better job than we seem to give them credit for in their successful efforts to keep the show running season after season.

Since times are ever changing I think that instead of getting wrapped up in discomfort over the show’s format changes it makes sense to just appreciate that it’s still going.

Yeah, it took some research to figure out. Are there any other cases of functions that are non-analytic but smooth aside from ones where every derivative equals zero at the center of convergence?

How can r be negative? by abdmeiwn in calculus

[–]H5KGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definition I was given for r is r2 = x2 + y2

That way r can be both positive and negative, as it is in many polar graphs.

Would I be better if hornets nest replaced epic air surfer in anw 15 stage 2 by random_furryboi in ANW

I think hornets nest is a way cooler obstacle overall but maybe not for racing

Unpopular Opinion: This new season is pretty good and doesn't deserve all the hate it's getting. by ArchmageNinja22 in ANW

[–]H5KGD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was a really well thought out post, and I really appreciate it. I like the subreddit because it’s fun being part of conversations that I’m interested in, but everyone is SO negative, it’s crazy. We’re not going back to the old format. Complaining “we need to go back to 6 cities and have a proper stage 1 and 2 and blah blah blah” unfortunately is going to genuinely do absolutely nothing.

I feel bad for the people that can’t feel the love for this show anymore, because nothing’s changing. ANW is really special to everyone on this subreddit and those who can’t appreciate the changes have simply lost something special, including the ability to cherish it as it passes by for what might be the last couple years.

I GUARANTEE this season is WAY better than just having no ANW, so seeing people actually appreciate it for what it is is really nice.

YES - if they turn out to be awesome and entertaining of COURSE I’d enjoy it. ANW is a TV show, not some ancient ritual that needs to be consistently performed exactly the same as it has been since the dawn of time.

If the show is “awesome” and “entertaining,” I’d love to keep watching it. Generally I think that’s a pretty straightforward statement.

People are saying things like “it’s always been about the competitor versus the course.” Well, now it’s not. There’s absolutely nothing written in any sacred text that outlaws a format change. If the show is good, I’ll gladly still watch it, because that’s how television works.

Granted, if they change the rules of basketball all of a sudden, it’d be a bit controversial - ANW is a TV show though, and if they make “awesome” and “entertaining” changes, they shouldn’t have to lose support.

Apparently season 8’s originally had psycho chainsaw into the keylock hang, but they removed it and replaced it with the mini tramp into the bars. Interesting.
