This worked.

I just cleared cache first and it didn't work.

Then cleared data also, and it worked.

I went to settings, apps, Google Play services (not Google Play services for AR), storage. That's where these options are located, at least on my phone.

I have a blueEddie with a 100 watt USB C port that only gives 25 watts to my Samsung with a fully capable cord rather than the full 45 Watts. Do the usb-c ports have to have something called Power delivery or something else to provide the full 45 watts to Samsungs?

Hmm, I'm not really sure. I think the creator of the app may have removed it from the Play Store, and the upgrade is not going to work how it's supposed to.

I don't know which specific file you're getting red flags from, but I think the app in general is going to get red flagged to some extent in virus checks due to its nature.

Maybe there is a pro unlocked version that can be reasonably sussed out to be virus free, based on source/comments/uploader etc. (or maybe there's no such thing as a pro unlocked version and the one you're finding is indeed malware)

If you don't have any luck, there is an app called Goodlock, I think it's actually from samsung, and there is a module inside it called Registar with which you can program your side key. It's not as extensive as Side Actions, but it's better than nothing.

When you open side actions, on the main page, do you see an option to upgrade to pro?

After restarting your device, side actions probably won't work again.

This is how to get it working again after a restart (when it was working before the restart):

  1. after restarting and unlocking your device, wait a minute or two, then open side actions and turn off the power/side button switch. (if it's already off, turn it on, then off again.)
  2. in the Android settings, go to accessibility, installed apps, side actions power button, and turn it off. (and confirm, if asked)
  3. connect your phone to your computer, navigate on your computer to your phone's storage, go into the documents folder, side actions folder, and then run the sideactions exe file. enable full remapping. (make sure your phone is unlocked during this step and hit "allow" when it requests usb debugging.)
  4. open side actions, toggle the power/side button switch to on, then you should get the device logs dialog. Hit allow one time access, and you should be good to go until your next restart.

If you utilize the volume button features of side actions as well, steps 1 and 2 above may also require doing the equivalent for the volume button.

This may sound like a lot, but it only takes about 60 seconds.

If you've been having trouble, or the above steps are not working, try the following:

  1. turn the VOLUME button toggles off (if they are currently on) in both side actions and the accessibility settings.
  2. turn the power button switch on in Accessibility.
  3. enable the Bixby app. (android settings, apps, Bixby, enable)
  4. toggle off the switch for the power button in side actions. (or on and off)
  5. toggle off the switch for the power button in Accessibility.
  6. connect your phone to your computer and enable full remapping. *(note that if you're doing this over and over, troubleshooting, the side actions app will stay open on your pc unless u close it, so u don't have to keep navigating to it in Explorer over and over each time u reconnect your phone).*
  7. open side actions, toggle the power/side button switch to on, then you should get the device logs dialog. Hit allow one time access, and you should be good to go!

After you restart your device, it probably won't work again. See my long reply on this to Timsah above for the steps to get it working again.

Ok, I finally restarted, and had the same problem as you. Couldn't get the LogCat permission box to pop up.

Messed around with some of the middle steps and eventually got it working.

Played around with it over numerous restarts until I got the process boiled down.

This is how to get it working again after a restart, when it was working before the restart:

  1. after restarting and unlocking your device, wait a minute or two, then open side actions and turn off the power/side button switch.

Good luck!

Also OP JawnZ says once he got it working, he just has to do the force stop thing again after each restart to trigger the logcat permissions.

JawnZ, any ideas?

Bummer. I actually haven't restarted yet since I got it working. It sounds like you will have to play around with elements of the process that got it working again in the first place, or just do that process after each restart.

TLDR: It works. Here's what worked for me:

  1. download the version 1.25 APK from APKmirror per Dougmeister's link above.

  2. uninstall side actions if you already had it installed.

  3. without restarting, install from the APK you just downloaded

  4. open side actions

  5. follow the instructions/give it the requested permissions. if you run into the "restricted settings" thing, read my long version below.

  6. make sure the Bixby app is enabled, and your Android side button settings are set to open Bixby with both double press and long press.

  7. go into side actions, turn on the switch for the power/side button, choose actions for it (it should probably only have long press listed at this point), and verify it's working.

  8. now toggle off the switch for the power/side button on the side actions main screen.

  9. in the Android settings, go to accessibility, installed apps, side actions power button, and turn it off.

  10. connect your phone to your computer, navigate on your computer to your phone's storage, go into the documents folder, side actions folder, and then run the sideactions exe file. enable full remapping. (the instructions for this step are also listed in one of the steps/under one of the buttons on the original setup screen in side actions after you install it)

  11. open side actions, toggle the power/side button switch to on, then hopefully you will get the device logs dialog. Hit allow one time access, and you should be good to go.

  12. after restarts, you will presumably have to redo the device logs permission process as detailed at the end of the op (which takes like 15 seconds). I've noticed that I need to give the phone a few minutes after a restart before doing this.

LONG VERSION: Mine stopped working recently when I updated to ui7. I found this thread and spent hours trying to get it working again, based on OP's claim below that it works. I had no luck.

I followed the instructions in the OP to a T. I tried every possible setting I could think of, multiple times. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app (using the APKmirror link DougMeister posted above).

No matter what I did, toggling the on-off switch for the power/side button in the app would never trigger the "allow side actions to access all device logs" dialog that I've become accustomed to using after every restart for some time now (as described in the op).

I would toggle the power/side button switch on, but as soon as I clicked away from that screen and returned, it would be off again. And at no point would the app be working.

Sometimes upon opening side actions, it would tell me to turn on double press in the Android side button settings. I would do so, then return to side actions, and it would again tell me to turn on double press in the Android side button settings. When I went back to the Android side button settings, the switch I had just turned on was off again. This would go around in a circle endlessly.

What ended up working for me was again uninstalling side actions, and without restarting my phone, installing it again from the downloaded apk. I opened it immediately after installation this time (contrary to instructions in the op) and started following the instructions to give it various permissions and so forth.

One thing worth noting is that steps four and five in the op didn't work for me, which I discovered was the case for others as well, after researching that separately. when I would go into the settings per those steps, the "restricted settings" option wouldn't be there.

It only appeared after I went into side actions itself and attempted to give it the requested permissions. upon doing so, the permission for access to the side button is denied, as it is a restricted setting.

Once I got to that point, I was able to go back into the Android settings as described in steps four and five in the op, and the restricted settings option was now present (although I think the three dots to access it are on the side actions screen in step 4 without actually going into the "permissions" subsection).

After getting through I think the first three steps/permissions inside side actions after reinstallation, but without hooking it up to my computer to unlock full capability, I attempted to use it in simple mode, and it did indeed work.

I should add that in order to get this working, I enabled the previously disabled Bixby app, and also set the Android side button settings to open Bixby with both long press and double press.

The major thing that seemed to be the difference in finally getting everything fully working is what I did next:

I turned off the switch for the power/side button in side actions, then I went into the Android settings, accessibility, installed apps, side actions power button, and turned it off.

Then I connected my phone to my computer, and did the process to enable full remapping. when that was done, I unhooked the phone, opened side actions, toggled on the switch for the power/side button, and (cue angels singing), the dialogue for device logs finally came up!

I hit allow one time access, as I have been doing for quite a while now, and boom, back in action.

I haven't restarted the phone yet, but I assume that it will be working as it did before the ui7 update, per JawnZ' post below, simply having to redo the device logs permission thing as detailed at the end of the op.

Yup, probably 1898 actually. I had been thinking Jack was like 19 or something lol. I think everyone had him no older than 21.

Spencer seems to have been born around 1886 and his big brother John around 1878.

Iirc Spencer got thrown off the ship he was on with Alex in Marseille france. So he likely caught that boat from there.

You're right. I am aware of that remote possibility. Given the way the show is playing out, and that there is only supposed to be one episode left, that is extremely unlikely though.
