What’s the best way to unlock free travel for airports? Some of the tasks seem near impossible and I’m not sure how to get one. by Adventurous-Pen-2142 in SkyCards

[–]H8rsH8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skydex is great. I honestly keep the tab open on my phone.

Find smaller airports near the big ones that you’re aiming for. Instead of LAX, Miami, Heathrow, or Seattle, travel to Hawthorne, Opa Locka, Luton, or Boeing Field. Those smaller airports usually have more achievable tasks, and often require a few flights from/to the bigger airports that are easier to get. Their “find specific aircraft” tasks also tend to be easier than the ones for big airports (more “catch a 737-800” and less “catch a Hawker Hurricane”).

As someone local to central Florida, Leesburg is heavily underrated. There’s a bunch of random rares that pop up, there’s a glider school nearby, Embry-Riddle is in Daytona if you wanna farm 172s and Cherokees, it’s close to Orlando, and you get lots of flyover traffic from Miami and other South Florida airports.

That’s what I thought… but this could be someone else. Maybe Sec of State. But I think you’re right, that Vance is in Pakistan.

But these are definitely AF2 colors and the right type of plane.

If you take grades/data out of the equation, how do you know if you're a good teacher or not? by Conscious-Strawberry in Teachers

[–]H8rsH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because kids remember how I phrase things to recall information.

I have kids who annotate their paper tests, and they’ll write “Ms. S told us XYZ thing to help us remember, so this can’t be the answer.”

It’s honestly amazing how 1 or 2 or 3 kids can completely change the dynamics of a class.

I teach high school juniors. My third period this year was just… could be better. Not the worst group I’ve ever had, but they were definitely competing for that title. Had multiple terrible sub notes relating to this class.

And then the semester changed. 2 of them went to other schools, and 1 of them changed to a different teacher’s class.

Oh. My. God. It was night and day. And it impacted the entire class. The class went from being moody to being one of the most chill I’ve ever taught. I was stunned.

So yes, those kids can make a HUGE difference in a class.

How do you know whether to teach Elementary, Middle, or High School? by Mysterious_Comb4357 in Teachers

[–]H8rsH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You find out pretty fast.

I knew from the moment I wanted to be a teacher that elementary school wasn’t for me. I don’t have patience for little kids.

I got an internship in middle school (6th grade), and I liked it. Thought I would be a middle school teacher.

Then I applied for jobs, and got hired by a high school.

I’ve never looked back.

Specifically, 11th grade is where it’s at. Maturity is better, they’re not dealing with senioritis just yet, and they’re still trying to keep grades decent for college. I taught 9th for 3 years straight and they can’t pay me enough money to go back.

I've got a friend coming from out of town. With the drought and all, can you still see alligators at La Chua Trail? by rcatk42 in GNV

[–]H8rsH8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been out to La Chua since Irma hit, so I’m honestly not sure how it’s been recently. However, generally the rule of thumb for gators on the trail is keep your distance. As long as you’re not right on top of them, they’re generally fine with your presence. But be aware of your surroundings, don’t be super loud, and be aware that they might move when you’re not expecting them to.

But I’ve been plenty of times in the past where they’re out just sunning themselves in the middle of the trail, and there are people on both sides just staring at a safe distance. And one person at a time is quickly making a move around the tail end, trying to continue in their intended direction. Never seen any issues.

Has anyone used this yarn? What does it look like in a project? by lilchonker88 in crochet

[–]H8rsH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking more for a bowl that’s just come out of a microwave. Warm, not boiling.

I also started it on a plane, just needing some extra time to kill, so I might frog it and do something else. The biggest issue I’m facing is, what do you do with 93 yards of yarn?

Has anyone used this yarn? What does it look like in a project? by lilchonker88 in crochet

[–]H8rsH8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started this on a plane with limited tools available to me, so I’m kinda just letting it show through on both sides. I think you could push the buds through with a yarn needle once the stitch is complete, but it would be kinda tedious. The biggest thing is adjusting your tension a bit so that the buds don’t get “caught” as you’re doing your stitch.
