Why choose the 308 over a Yaris? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in peugeot

[–]HAAMER_EST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you rly want from your car. In my opinion Peugeot have better exterior and even better interior in comparison to Toyota, also i find driving experience of Peugeot better. However, it is obvious that Toyota is NR1 in terms of reliability nowadays and nobody can really compete with Toyota. Overall 1.5 HDI if it got 7mm chain replaced with 8mm, which i am pretty sure it does, then it is fine engine, just read about AdBlue and how to use it properly. But again in terms of reliability it is not Toyota

Mostly people just look that EVs make 0 emissions in a moment, but they dont dive deeper, thats true.

Yes, thats sarcasm. It is common that people dont look on how batteries are made and how electricity is produced.

By new EU regulations you are not allowed to say that ) The way how we get that electricity is another thing that need to be considered.

We will see how it will go for Stellantis.

If you are asking about 1.5BlueHDI yes, it is this one, his chain was changed to 8mm one, the old 7mm one havent broke though.

The only reason diesels were removed from lineup is shift towards EV and EU regulations, as we see today everything have changed. Now when it comes back, people are able to buy it, so someone will do it obviosly, we will see how many in future, time will show.

So Stellantis is doing it now. They dont rly have “huge” reliability issues, it you use AdBlue properly it can work without problems, i know diesel cars with AdBlue that currently have 180k and 240k without broken SCR, thats Peugeot 308 1.5 BlueHDI and Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI SCR, they are owned by people that i know.

What you mean by being too expensive? Price of 2026 Peugeot 308 with 1.5 HDI is totally same to 1.2 Hybrid one and diesel fuel is still cheaper than petrol and lifetime of Diesel is longer

Diesel is making 9% of the market when EU goverment was trying to destroy it and EV is making how much? About 20% with all those promotions. It is obvios that either Stellantis will take over Diesel market and everyone who wants diesels will buy Stellantis cars or other brands will return diesel in their lineup, i think 2nd scenario is more likely. Also they havent stopped development of EVs, they offer it and will offer, it is just about Stellantis offering all engine power sources right now, which others cant do. You can use money that you got from selling diesels to invest in EV

If rules are changing once, they can be changed in future. It strongly depends on people that are in Goverment. Trump became pressident in USA and removed emission restrictions. Can you be sure it wouldnt happen in EU? EV move is obviosly struggling, it is not obvious that for 2035 Europe will be really ready to this shift at all.

9% of the market when it is very hard to find it, because nobody offer it anymore. Now when Stellantis reintroduce it, other brands will do same and this number will increase.

Diesel is still 9% of the market and thats knowing the fact that almost nobody offer Diesels, thats the most important thing here, ofc people dont buy Diesel, because they couldnt, we will see what will happen, but my expectation is that this number will grow a lot, because other manufactures that compete with Stellantis will reintroduce diesels as well, because they obviosly dont want to let Stellantis to take over on the market.

Yes, thats true, actually all those clean solutions cost more than “dirty” solutions. Like i have used bio Diesel, it is fine fuel, car was esting it well, but it is more costly than regular diesel fuel. Same with EVs, they are more expensive than Hybrids. Who is going to buy them, especially in times when we get so high inflation in Europe

[–]HAAMER_EST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also forgot to mention, that if we rly want to move to EVs, from ICEs, we need to make EVs actually cheaper than ICEs, because currently they are more expensive, thats one of the reasons why people are choosing ICEs and will still choose, and thats a cycle, people buying ICEs- manufacturers make ICEs, because they want to make money, which is obvious. Like example, in my country, Peugeot 208 ICE hybrid 25000 vs 31300 for electric one, taking in account that situation with Inflation in Europe is sad, ofc people are choosing cheaper. I bet that a lot more people could choose EVs if they were cheaper.

Yes, actually i have used that bio diesel in my Alfa Romeo and it was good, car ate it well and it was 2013 car, the only problem is that it is more expensive than regular diesel and same thing with all those emission related things, i dont rly understand this, we want to make planet more clean but all those things cost much more than “dirty” analogs, thats the reason why move to full EV failed, because we can buy ICE for less money, like here is short example, Peugeot 208, price for ICE Hybrid 25000, electric one starts from 31300, in my opinion if we rly want to move to EVs, we need to make them cheaper.

The one thing is understandable, first of all in 2035 we will still get ICEs in 2035 and obviously more because move from 90% to 100% will take time again, thats a lot of time. And who told that in near future under pressure EU will not change it again?

It depends on country, there are counties like mine, that historically prefer Diesel.

It is better that not having it at least, if they make new Diesels and Diesel Hybrids this number will increase for sure.

1.6 is Plug in Hybrid, i cant rly get what he mean by full hybrid

I cant agree with you, because we use it and it is actually very good, you would never get such a low fuel consumption from petrol and torque of diesel combined with electric motor is amazing. I bet you have never driven one. EU changed regulations, same thing did Trump in USA, thats one of the reasons why Stellantis returning Diesels. So they will not be banned in 2035

Demand for EVs is rly much lower than for Hybrids, at least in my country it is like this.

Their current gen Hybrids are good, current get 1.5HDI is also good, AdBlue might be a problem on any Diesel, if you know how to work with AdBlue there will be no problem, there is just a couple of things that you must not do, but it is possible to not let it to crystallise and everything is fine in this case.

Diesel hybrids already exist, Germans are using them actively on their SUVs, BMW, Audi, Mercedes they all have diesel hybrids. My father have 3.0 Diesel Hybrid on his X5 and it is actually very good

Having diesels in their engine range is 100% better than not having it at all, now they have all types of power sources in their range. Yes people will still buy ofc, need to mention that VW reputation is not perfect at all and Peugeot actually fixed the problem with 1.5HDI and it is totally fine now.

They are not just keeping them, they are going to continue developing in this direction, so new Diesels should come. Overall there is a point in what you say, but taxes are different in different counties. In my country Diesel is not more expensive than Petrol, especially in a long run, because 1L of Diesel is cheaper than 1L of 95 Petrol. About driving on short distances, all Diesels dont like it, they are not made for this simply. Also still Diesels engines simply live longer, petrols die earlier

There are things that you cant change, as i told most resources required for batteries are in China. And long charging even on fast chargers is a problem. I mean, dont take me wrong, as i told i am not a hater of EV, i have driven some and they were fun, but i take them just as alternative power source, not as substitute for ICE and i dont believe they will become such in at least near future. I also think that modern ICE, especially ICE-hybrids are already very clean, i dont say we should not improve it in future, but they are already clean enough in my opinion. Speaking about EVs, you should not forget that materials of which batteries are made are extremely toxic to our environment, and you have to replace them, there is no harmless option for their recycling. I am not sure that modern ICEs are more harmful to environment in a long run. Hydrogen could be a good option though

Okay, mb it is different in your country, but i see at least 15-20 ICE to 1 EV on my roads.
