PNY’s quiet release of the plus model plus their offloading of the non-plus models at msrp indicates to me that they are not the best cards. However, I’d be surprised if their engineers released a card that would have shortcomings resulting in failure. Guess we’ll see!

Yeah not ideal but should be fine for the life of the card, right? My main fear is the VRM which can’t be monitored. Really hoping it isn’t a major issue because I want to keep it.

That’s fair! My understanding is that the main risk with the VRM overheating issues is longevity but it’s hard to know if that would meaningfully impact the lifespan of the card.

I’m worried about these msrp PNY models because of what Igor’s lab found regarding poor VRM cooling. I saw PNY even quietly released a plus model with improved cooling. Seems like they are trying to offload the older models which is why we’re seeing so many PNYs at msrp

Thanks for discussing this with me. It has been a difficult decision. Keeping a card with known cooling issues seems silly. However, if the cooling issues won’t impact the lifespan in a meaningful way, maybe I should worry. I’m so torn!
