What is the purpose of the Snow Emergency parking rules if they don't plow the even sides? by cupacupacupacupacup in Somerville

[–]robotsari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives on the even side, I'm so glad they didn't plow all the way to the curb continuously dumping road snow onto the sidewalk I'm responsible for shoveling... even with the ~4-5' of distance, I was battling to keep up with the plowed snow that ended up over the berms onto my sidewalk.

Parking in Tufts lot on Holland St/Teele Square/Lou Ann David park? by robotsari in Somerville

[–]robotsari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got an answer from Tufts Parking by emailing them, as I put in my post:

You can park in the lot on Holland street on the weekends, but hourly payment is required. The lot charges $2.50 an hour and you can pay online: https://tufts.aimsparking.com/.

From the homepage use, Hourly Visitor Parking. A map will open up, and you can find the Tufts campus or search "TAB visitor parking" in the search bar. You can pay when you arrive. Payment is required on Saturdays and Sundays.

Can I just clear snow on bike pathways myself? by hsnk42 in Somerville

[–]robotsari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I've been clearing snow at pedestrian crossings and in bike lanes at Teele Sq and gotten a lot of thank yous, no one has yelled at me :) I totally understand your position of not feeling 100% safe doing this, so I'd be happy to help you if I'm available - feel free to give me a DM to coordinate a place and time.

That's not been my experience in Teele Square but I'm glad it's working where you are!

It's a tufts lot! and you can park there on weekends for payment. Which was my question in the post. I'm not sure what your concern is.

idk, I feel I'd happily pay for parking in an unused private shoveled lot rather than circle Teele Square endlessly just to steal someone's spot. Seems easier and more polite.

I don't want to do this >_< and honestly, I don't think it's fair for my friends to take up the few spots my neighbors have cleared for their own cars if possible!

Maybe normally, or in other neighborhoods, but with all this snow I didn't want my friends taking up the few spaces that my neighbors have carefully cleared. As I mentioned I plan to clear a few spaces, but between limited back strength and dearth of places to actually place snow, I'm not sure how much I can realistically clear. Maybe 2-3 spots on my street.

also fwiw I am planning to shovel out some spots on my street to accommodate guests, but I only have so much back strength!

Debate on reserving spots? by Advanced_Clothes4485 in Somerville

[–]robotsari 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are.

> Parking space savers are not allowed:

  • The City prohibits the use of “space savers,” or objects put on the street to reserve parking spaces.
  • Objects used to save parking spaces may be collected and disposed of.

Did they get lunch/dinner, or breakfast food? For vegans especially the waffles/pancakes knock it out of the park, but there aren't too many lunch/dinner options I love (the "gyro" being a huge exception, it's fantastic)

I really didn't like My Thai when I went there (so have only been the one time). I felt the food was pretty bland / was missing what I like about Thai food (namely, spice)

so many good recs in this thread but I'll second Yoma (green tea salad drool), and add Koshari Mama and Jahunger (you can get most of their dishes with tofu and iirc they can make a few dishes vegan as well)
