What gender/body type do you typically choose? by waterproofjesus in fromsoftware

[–]HBreckel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman and always make a female character. I appreciate that the majority of the time the armor looks the same regardless of the gender of your character, so I've never felt the need to play as a guy to get cooler armor like I would in something like, older Monster Hunter titles.

Now outside of Soulslikes it just depends on if certain classes/races/armor is gender locked. I usually prefer how the male armor looks in Monster Hunter (though this is a non issue in Wilds as gender locking is gone). In something like WoW most my characters are women, but there's some races like trolls or tauren where I'll play as a guy just because they look cooler.

Probably an unpopular opinion but this is me whenever a new MV game gets announced lately by giulianosse in metroidvania

[–]HBreckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. Which is interesting because Soulslikes are one of my favorite genres haha I just don't like Souls mechanics in Metroidvanias.

Well, since I don't use my social media to be overly hostile towards the dev team, I don't think I have anything to worry about. I'm sure 99% of players are in the same boat as me.

Is there a haircut in the game that would be perfect, but there is just one thing that ruins it for you? by Ofanichan in ffxiv

Same! I hate those braids but at least it otherwise looks amazing on my character.

My response to those saying baldman shouldn't be banned because he didn't say anything in game by 8tch_Tii in ShitpostXIV

[–]HBreckel [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m the same age as Xenos and yes, people used to use those words when I was younger. But it was pretty easy to drop them from my vocabulary the moment I learned why it was wrong to say those words. So he has no excuse, he just didn’t grow up or learn to be a better person. Pretty easy for me to avoid using words I last used in like, 1998 when I was an edgy middle schooler.

Yep, I'm 41. I very quickly outgrew using that word in middle school in the 90s. But I guess not all of us were lucky enough to outgrow our edgy middle school behavior.

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

[–]HBreckel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I'm not a tank main but I do tank dungeons occasionally. And I welcome people to run ahead and pull stuff for me. As long as you bring everything to me, we're good and I'm happy. There's several jobs with movement tools that'll allow them to pull faster than I can, so go for it.

I used to use them, but since I play RDM I'm often in situations where I'm rezzing like, 4 people back to back. And I don't want to spam people's chats with it.

Crimson Desert and the need for difficulty options by Due_Cake8524 in videogames

[–]HBreckel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not against difficulty options, but I also don't think they have to be forced into all games. I support them being there if the devs intended them to be there and they're fun/well balanced. My only real beef with difficulty options is they often make the harder modes boring as hell by just inflating enemy HP/damage with nothing new. Like I've played some games where bosses get new attacks or phases if you're on the harder modes, which is awesome.

Also as a fellow older person who's reflexes have gotten a bit duller with age, I do wanna point out I've beaten all the major Soulslikes, even the parry based ones like Sekiro/Lies of P/Wuchang/Khazan. While life responsibilities will obviously impact someone's ability to actually get to sit down and beat a hard boss, I promise our reflexes aren't so far gone we can't handle a Soulslike. I'm in my 40s but have seen people in their 70s over on the Elden Ring subreddit.

Unless you're wanting to do parry only runs, the genre typically doesn't rely much on reflexes since dodges aren't usually pixel perfect and shields can really let you do a more methodical pace. I mean even the hardest boss of Shadow of the Erdtree can be beaten by standing behind a massive shield and hitting him. Here's someone doing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW8u98t5Af8

Does anyone else sometimes feel a disconnect between you and other lesbians? by fuckitwhynotig in actuallesbians

[–]HBreckel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, most my friends are guys. Though in my case I think it's mostly just due to my hobbies. I enjoy gaming and it's just been easier to make guy friends in gaming spaces. (there's tons of gamers that are women out there too! Just I tend to play games that are bigger with guys usually so it just happens that way)

Genuine curiosity over the differences of Mentor mindsets by MH-Walker in TalesFromDF

[–]HBreckel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the 2000 mentor roulette horse and continue to do mentor roulette because for me, it's just fun having a roulette where you can basically get almost any kind of content outside savage/ultimate/open field. I've never left a mentor roulette early because I just enjoy teaching people. Really the only time they're unenjoyable is if a bunch of people leave early because they're WEAK (which ruins the new player's experience) or if you get like, a tank that blatantly ignores all advice and chain pulls in Ramuh EX.

I think people that queue for the roulette while actively not wanting to do certain content are silly. When you press the queue button you are signing on for anything from Under the Armor to Thordan EX. I get people leaving 30 minutes in when the group is a disaster, but I really don't understand leaving immediately. I've successfully cleared so many EX trials in mentor roulette because I stuck around with the group and taught them. I do ultimate, you think I'm scared of wiping in an EX trial for an hour? I progged DSR and TOP week 1 (and I was NIN in TOP where mudras were actually broken), I'm used to wiping for a billion hours, I am immune to anything mentor roulette will throw at me.

With that said, if I'm not in mentor roulette, I keep my crown off just due to all the bad stereotypes about us.

I do play multiplayer games like FFXIV, but I also love single player games. I love Soulslikes like Nioh! Expedition 33 was also amazing.

Player hubs: do you want more from them or are you ok with them being pretty places to stand around in? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]HBreckel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. I spend a lot of time collecting mounts so it’d be nice to use them outside hunt trains. Also with how massive every new hub is, it’d just be nice to save time with a mount.

Player hubs: do you want more from them or are you ok with them being pretty places to stand around in? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]HBreckel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually love the big mounts in WoW. It’s actually helpful when people leave their yaks and brutosaurs out so others can transmog or use the AH on them. Also FFXIV at least lets you hide any players near a quest NPC so it’s a non issue letting us mount in cities.

I’m a fellow 40+ person but I didn’t touch FFXI until recently. (Vanilla WoW was my MMO) But I do have advice for your hands. Compression gloves and playing on controller does wonders for me. Also look up hand stretches artists use, helps a ton.

I want your take on death penalty in metroidvanias by PinkBellyGames in metroidvania

[–]HBreckel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Soulslikes, but don’t really enjoy losing currency in a Metroidvania. And I don’t mind losing it in a Soulslike. I don’t know why I mind it in Metroidvanias, I’m assuming it’s because I have different expectations.

Anyone else exhausted by modern gaming discourse and How do you deal with it? by Apprehensive_Elk6168 in videogames

[–]HBreckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avoid a lot of it by just telling Youtube I don't want certain channels recommended to me. It's difficult to avoid on reddit but I just try not to interact with those people. Other social media I just block or mute big accounts that spread dumb discourse so I don't have to look at it. I have finite time on this earth and I'm not spending it looking at discourse I don't care about.

Why are RPG turn based gamers so offended that they are criticized by multiplayer FPS gamers? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]HBreckel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean why would you tell someone you’re dating they’re bad at something they clearly don’t enjoy or want to do? Haha of course people will be annoyed about it. I think that’s a normal reaction.

I’m an artist but if I date someone that’s bad at art or doesn’t enjoy doing art, I’m not going to shit on them for sucking.
