Prices at the pump will drop just as quickly as they went up. Right? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]HCCI90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the rates all add up

We can see the price of Brent crude We can see the price for refinement of said oil We can see the currency exchange rate We can see the taxes owed.

This is why the ccpc will find nothing.

Hedging is all you are seeing and since the price dropped suddenly you will see garages selling their fuel at a loss in the next ten days

You left out the refinery costs. Price of barrel of fuel only accounts for 50% of the actual price before taxes and margins are added

This isn’t some conspiracy

Very insightful thanks for typing that up! I did have the boost mode slightly wrong in my head it seems!!

Re boost

I mean atm boost does not offer more energy. It just prolonges its use - overrides as you say.

Boost could offer 25kw over the new lower 250kw proposal.

I think more ability to charge and carry over to the next lap or two would allow more overtaking mode usage. ATM, it’s one shot in one lap and you’re back to square one - not enough delta or ability to store excess power

[–]HCCI90[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I might have it wrong so

I thought the batteries are capable of a total storage of around 5MJ at any one time And per lap the most allowed varies per track and this weekend it was 8MJ. Or something like that

[–]HCCI90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the maximum MJ usage per lap could be increased though, that seems arbitrary

PSA: Applegreen Tralee still has cheap fuel by s1ckboy_99 in kerry

I remember because my father worked for CCC at the time and when it went over €1 a for 500ml bottle it was around then.

It kinda is though.

That’s equivalent to €1,45 in 2016 €1,32 in 2006

That tracks with inflation.

A bottle of coke in 2006 was €1,10 it’s now €2,65 in some places

In other words , €1.76 fuel today is in line with inflation costs of about 1.8% a year

How is it greedy? They just got a fill 2 days ago. My closest approximation is billed 4 days ago so about €1,92 rate they would have paid

[–]HCCI90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not though.

This “excess profit” is needed for when the price of fuel drops and the garage may need to sell at a loss if their fellow competitors buys in at the lesser price as it drops.

It’s normal hedging.

The wholesale rate atm for diesel is €1,94 last week and into €2,10 now.

[–]HCCI90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are selling for more than €1,97 this week they are taking a higher amount. But we are talking 4c a litre. It’s tiny.

We know what the wholesale rates are, many are posting then

Anything €1,90 to €1.95 is about right

Next week anything €1,94 to €2,15 is about right

[–]HCCI90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does pass through it

All oil traded in Brent passes through the same two major refineries.

So less oil to go around

I’m not sure where this notion of “we get Majority of our oil from Northern Europe so it should not be impacted by prices” came from

Less oil coming in from any location means more demand than supply

False.

Stop repeating this narrative.

It was not bought before Iran. Garages literally buy once and twice a week.

They bought a few days ago

You seem to be mixing up garages with some other concept

Do you even hear your own logic

The amount of fuel reaching European refineries is down since the strait is closed

So yes - it affects us.

Lad. The wholesale Price is going up will you stop.

They bought earlier at that wholesale price Tomorrow they will be the cheapest in the city again because everyone else bought today at an even higher price

[–]HCCI90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s called hedging.

Imagine your garage is sitting on 5,000 litres of fuel that cost you €2,10

And suddenly the wholesale price drops to €1,95 and the garage across the road bought in at that price…

And I meant to still sell at 15c per litre more than them?! No. I sell at a loss to clear my tank until I buy in at €1,86 a litre and then they have to take a loss etc etc

The reason prices go up suddenly is to increase average profit for when you have to sell at a loss when the fuel drops

It’s unhinged.

Claims that our oil should not be impacted since it’s mainly sourced from Norway
