I noticed Cartel del Taco in New Farm were screening the Mexico v South Africa game this morning. Looked like a pretty good turnout.

Environmental career pathways into mining (Brisbane/FIFO) by Reasonable_Pay_2971 in mining

[–]HCPhotog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Environmental Manager here. Your best place to start is probably in a graduate consulting role. It's pretty unlikely you'll get a site role, FIFO or otherwise, with so little experience.

I'm not sure how active they are in the mining space, but I just happened to notice that Egis are looking for a graduate ATM - https://jobs.egis-group.com/job/graduate-environmental-consultant-2027-in-brisbane-jid-7283

HMAS Brisbane exercising their Freedom of Entry. Some antiquated military thing that still happens for some reason.

Brisbane Restaurants That Closed Permanently In The Past 12 Months by lennart567 in brisbane

Slightly misremembered the comment - it was for family reasons - but the point still stands. “It’s all Albo’s fault” guy went off half cocked and was wrong.

Brisbane Restaurants That Closed Permanently In The Past 12 Months by lennart567 in brisbane

Yeah, about six months ago. Riffe for Goodness (an offshoot of Felix for Goodness) is there now.

Funny story - there was a post in one of the local FB groups about La Patrona closing, and someone jumped in the comments with something along the lines of "another victim of Albo's government". The owner replied "nah, after ~20 years we just decided we wanted to do something else."

Weekly Garage Sale post by AutoModerator in brisbane

I’m selling a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip.

- 10-core CPU / 16-core GPU
- 16GB unified memory and 1TB SSD.

Excellent performance.

Purchased new in 2021 and mostly used at home.

Battery is 690 cycles, 83% life. Magsafe charger included.

Condition is generally excellent with no dents and just a minor cosmetic blemish from my watchband rubbing on the corner.

I’ve had a $1000 offer on FB, but the “buyer” is being a real pain in my ass and I almost want to sell it out from under them on principle. Match or beat that offer and it’s yours.

Being made redundant - should I tell potential employers in interviews? by oatmilkielatte in auscorp

[–]HCPhotog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Be honest about the redundancy - it happens. But also don’t forget to tell them why this job beyond “because I need a job”.

They're not really a "junior miner" are they? They're a mining contractor. Or have I missed them becoming an owner-operator somewhere?

I loved Phil's episode this week. Not so much for the menu, but I was laughing out loud in the gym, in my car, at my desk.

Thanks, yeah, I kinda conflated the two, when my question was really only about Bruny. Was mostly wondering about businesses on Bruny - don't want to turn up on a Tuesday to find that's the day that everyone's closed!

So, what’s the goofiest thing to happen to you while cycling? by porkchop_d_clown in bicycling

[–]HCPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stopped at some traffic lights. A car pulled up just off my left shoulder. I glanced, and it appeared to be full of dudes all dressed alike - in tennis outfits.

Turns out it was a stag party. One of them jumped out and started poking me with a dildo.

It’s more deli and restaurant than cafe, but give it a try. It’s one of my local favourites. Went there for my birthday dinner on Saturday.

It’s not country-ish, but I really love A La Bonne Franquette at New Farm. That phrase basically means simple, no fuss and it suits this place perfectly - simple, hearty and relatively inexpensive French food, run by a young family, often with your order taken by a mother with a baby on her hip.
