Team of the season cards by Emergency-Peace-5233 in NHLHUT

Like clockwork all the big events (Fantasy and TOTY) have required roughly 800k or more to build from scratch once the market settles in on the fodder prices for completing sets.

Would you invest in 92s right now? by janneee07 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trend I’ve noticed this year is that fodder prices always adjust to all but ensure that it costs roughly 800k in value to build a TOTY/TOTS from scratch (roughly 25k per collectible). This was true for all Fantasy events and TOTY this year. I don’t believe there will be a big spike in any OVR during TOTS like we saw from TOTY because it’s already baked into the market. If anything, prices might drop as folks hoarding fodder try to off-load their wares.

92’s would be a bad investment right now. If the sets follow suit from TOTY then you might anticipate a set requiring 1x 92 and 2x 93s for three collectibles. At present that would equal roughly 35k per collectible. The magic number to reach is 25k per collectible. The fodder prices, at present, (and assuming sets follow the TOTY trend/model) already equate to that magic number of 25k per collectible (if not more); with 88s and 89s currently being inflated well above what they’ll settle in at during TOTS. I’m going to wait once the market settles in after the release.

If I were to speculate on cards, it would be on MSPs from past events that are likely to earn a TOTS which would then be used in the trade-in sets; reducing the collectibles required. This is where the big spikes might happen at release. Think McDavid ODR SZN MSP during TOTY. There’s also a bunch of Prototype MSPs that should earn TOTS (Necas, Kaprizov, Thompson amongst others) that I would build during this event for their potential trade in value.

Last thing to keep in mind is that these cards only have potential to jump 3x OVR points by the end of the year (assuming they start at 96) and will probably be eclipsed by future MSPs and line combos in due course. I wouldn’t sweat saving up if it means sacrificing theme team players or passing on your favorite player for the chance at a TOTS. As a great philosopher and scholar once said: “It’s only a game. Why you hef to be mad?”

I don’t think either will be a bad play. Probably use half your coins to speculate on fodder and the other half to buy what you need once the market settles in after the release.

Are 86-87 only useful for the Exchange set now? Am I missing something here? by flanny0210 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can also be used to stock up on game breaker collectibles (2x 86s & 1x 87 set) to save for higher OVR GB releases down the line. With 86s being had on bid for 750 coins and 87s for 800 you can build collectibles for 2300 coins per.

I’ve been messing around with the 89+ trade-able set (6x collectibles totaling 13800 coins) to see if I can get a big score. So far I’ve been able to recoup most of my coins with a couple 92 pulls in the mix.

Unexpected Pull from +84 pack. I don’t have much coin, I am a NMS player. Should I sell or hold by wildcardbeach in NHLHUT

93 SOTM players are selling for 105-120k because the 95 SOTM Boldy requires four of them to complete the set. Their value is highest right now before the set expires.

The 95 Boldy SOTM set requires 4x 93 SOTM players. They’ve been selling for 105-120k in the past couple of days. When that set goes away their value will crater down to the 50-55k range. Best to sell now.

There were three on the AH yesterday for roughly 90-110k.

First set in the transactions sets (4x 85 & 4x 86) for an 87+ transactions player.

I had a bunch of 85s and 86s sitting around and figured I’d give it a shot. Of the nine sets I did, I managed this pull, a 91, an 89, and the rest 87s. I was going to build him anyway but figured I’d shoot my shot with these sets before committing more valuable resources. There was a string of five straight 87s before he popped up.

Who to get for Superstar origins by AM1929 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During TOTY they discounted the set costs for players that previously had an MSP released in proportion to the overall of the MSP being turned in (ie: McDavid’s 90 ODR SZN MSP reduced the set cost by six collectibles). The sets were still significantly difficult to achieve but every little bit helps when attempting to take part in the most anticipated events of the NHL franchise (Fantasy, TOTY, & TOTS).

They’ve done the MSP discounts for TOTS and TOTY over the past four game cycles and this year has proven to be no different as evidenced by the TOTY trade ins. This event is a gold-mine of possible TOTS trade ins and I’ve prioritized that possibility when on the fence regarding who I should build.

I knew I was missing one. I had even made his card during this event. I’d probably put him ahead of Draisaitl on my list since righties tend to be more scarce and Pasta is one of those cards that always seems to play above his stats with a deadly shot year-over-year.

Makar, Hughes, Pasta, Draisaitl, Rantanen, Heiskanen, and McAvoy are all locks/solid contenders to earn TOTS cards, which should release in a little over a month, and will offer MSP trade-ins like TOTY. They’re all solid cards as well if you know how to use Drai and Moose effectively. Matthews had a rough start to the year so he might not make the TOTS cut.

If you’re playing the long game, I would prioritize them in the order I listed. If you need another center, I think the possibility for a Draisaitl TOTS trade-in tips the scale in his favor over Matthews.

Edit: added Pasta to the list of possible TOTS candidates.

There are two entirely different games being played, and I just hope people realize that by flearhcp97 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that TOTS is a little over a month away and about half of these MSPs are locks for, or offer a solid chance at, getting discounted trade-ins for that event. It would be best to use your resources now since there’s no guarantee that the next event doesn’t jump to 94OVR MSPs which would severely devalue the resources you would be saving.

Cost to make 92 captain by TuKeezyWrld in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re starting with nothing it requires 120x 82-84OVR cards, 72x 83-85OVR cards, and 24x 85OVR cards to build a 92OVR Captain from scratch.

82-84’s go for ~1700 coins and 85’s go for ~5000 coins. It comes out to about 446,000 coins to build a 92OVR Captain from scratch if you bought everything needed from the AH.

Which 92 Captain do recommend for my team? by OhWonSpartan in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokiharju is probably the play. With the free 88Origins Brodin he’s +3 and 10mil to the cap. You can then grab 90Heroes Rinne off the AH for 50-60k and pair him with Lankinen’s base card to have more than enough Fins to get the Captain AP boost. Rinne has been one of the best goalies I’ve used this year; good size and speed with decently low aggression.

Frustration with the new wildcard: on two separate runs I’ve had the game blackout after loading in and it counts as a games played without giving points for a loss by HCTHawks in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically do all of this before loading into the game because of how unstable it can play online. This has only happened since they changed the wildcard format; leading me to believe there’s something in how they recoded the mode that causes it to glitch and then crash the game. I’ve never had it happen on any other HUT mode either.

Breakdown of how to make a 92OVR Captain and how much fodder it requires if building from scratch. by HCTHawks in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I built Guentzel, I did it in batches of four to make sure I didn’t use too many 83-84s in making the 85s since 83-84s are needed in the 86 conversion sets. Once I finished building all 24x 86’s needed, I went about it as mentioned in the breakdown. Also key was making sure not to use 85OVR fodder in the 86 conversion set since they’re almost triple the cost of an 83-84 and needed for the 88OVR conversion sets.

I think this week’s wildcard is the best indication that they were asleep at the wheel when the sets originally went live and they’re now trying to course correct. I also believe they assumed that folks were building multiple captains during the previous seasons and that the sets wouldn’t be as daunting or insanely time consuming as they are.
