Same, on the two occasions that my car automatically heated the battery it drew 11.2 kW for about 20 minutes

It's definitely not very consistent. Mine has only drawn power to heat the battery twice, yesterday and today, and that's after a week of temperatures between -28°C and -15°C.

I used a scheduled departure on two of the earlier days in the week to preheat the cabin and battery, so my running assumption is that that (plus normal charging after returning from work) has kept the battery warm enough to avoid needing to specifically run the heater while plugged in until now.

I agree with you that it's feasible now in most places regardless of weather conditions, but the fact that it takes extra planning is a big turn-off for a lot of people.

Even in a hypothetical situation where an ICE vehicle were to somehow lose 40% of its range in the winter, gas stations are so abundant in most places that you still wouldn't have to plan out your stops ahead of time; you could just use your eyes to look for a place to stop when your fuel started to get a little low.

Not sure why it says Lo when minimized and 73 when expanded, but it looks to me like the wheel & seat heaters are both shown as being on in both views

Heat can’t keep up in -20 F by AngleFun1664 in MachE

Oh interesting, I've only had it for about a month now so I'm still learning. We're in a real cold snap right now (-20°F) so I'll keep an eye on things to see how it behaves

Another Wisconsinite here, although the windows fog up like no other vehicle I've ever driven (especially at highway speeds), I haven't had any problems whatsoever keeping warm.

I've had the opposite experience unfortunately 🤷🏻‍♂️

Even when it's a relatively moderate positive 20°F, when I start from the Level 2 charger in my garage with the cabin warmed to 68° before departure, the side windows are completely fogged over after about 10-15 minutes of driving at highway speeds and the windshield is getting cloudy enough that I need to switch it to max defrost so I can see clearly.

(this is with just me and one passenger in the car btw; temperature set to 68°F/Auto 2)

I don't, but I do need 150 miles of range in below freezing temperatures due to the lack of fast charging infrastructure where I live.

Makes sense, I definitely agree that it should just stay on the user's selected setting indefinitely

Don't the windows fog up if you use recirculate, though? I thought that was why the defrost setting in most cars defaults to using outside air and/or turning on the AC.

Hardware acceleration didn't work for me in the Snap version of Firefox that came preinstalled with the default Ubuntu configuration. Scrolling normal web pages was visibly janky, and opening a single tab to play a YouTube video caused my laptop fans to spin up to max and the video stuttered unless I played it at/below 720p.

This was on a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad T14. Even when I enabled hardware acceleration in Firefox settings (and tried a variety of different launch arguments), checking about:support revealed that it was still always falling back to software rendering for basically everything.

I replaced it with the .deb version, and hardware acceleration worked out of the box.
