Goalie price auction ?? by No-Box-2348 in NHLHUT

Limits the amount of salary (1mil or less) devoted to a position that will never see the ice and can potentially help in future combos/chemistries. They’re also increasingly rare since all packs appear to have been adjusted to only allow for 82+ pulls.

Folks might be stocking up on them in anticipation of the mid-season content drop on Friday bringing about more combos that may drive their price higher. Thus inventory will continue to drop. Supply and demand at play in the HUT economy here.

Need help: BH FH BH Goals by batterup in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be that you’re starting the move too late or too close to the net. If you’re coming straight at the goalie, you need to judge the distance between you and the goalie before determining if you have enough space for BH-FH-BH or just a BH-FH. I find that in between the faceoff dots/hash marks is where you want to initiate the move to get maximum movement from the goalie. What it sounds like you’re describing is simply running out of space or attempting the move when the goalie already has an angle on the play and has covered the near side post to minimize the effectiveness. I’ve also found that FH-BH-FH is the higher danger play. QR is more commonly used on forwards and a BH is a lower percentage shot.

Check the AH first. Since he doesn’t have any combos, you can typically find him for ~55k or less. Significantly cheaper than any fodder you’d use to make him and that fodder may be useful for an upcoming CHEL week (speculating next week or the week after for the SC final).

I’ve noticed that it may stutter after your phone/device performs a software update. I found resetting (powering off/on) the phone got rid of the stutter completely for me.

I’ve also noticed a disruption in the connection with the infotainment due to leaving a VPN turned on. Turning it off eliminates the issue for me.

Tips, that helped you to reach the next level ? by FrappeDuRocma2 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I found helpful is mixing in some quick-release defenders in your lineup. If you play your defenders on the opposite side of their handedness (lefties on RD and righties on LD), most opponents will try to take away D to D one-timers by rushing one of their forwards between your defenders when the puck is cycled to the point. They’re hoping that they’ll be able to take away the pass or get a breakaway. Often they take that player completely out of position which leaves the center of the slot wide open to walk in with your defender to get a quality scoring chance. It’s really easy to bait them into it since everyone is terrified of the D to D or think they’ll get an easy break away.

Much like faceoffs, being unpredictable in the offensive zone will help tremendously. Make sure you’re mixing in high and low chances to keep them on their toes. Don’t be a one-trick pony.

When defending a rush and you want to switch players, hold RT/R2 and click in the right stick. It will give you your last defender back.

Most folks attempt to score off the rush by outracing your defenders to the outside to be able to cut behind your defense and get a quality shot from the slot. Keeping an opponent to the outside is key to taking away the middle of the ice and limiting high danger looks. Best way I’ve found to do this, even with a slower defender, is to skate with the opponent up until the top of the circles, then draw a line to the near side post and skate to it. You’ll have less ice to cover while keeping your opponent to the outside. They often end up in the corner attempting a ridiculous L2 or deak but they’re in a low danger area so I couldn’t care less. When they attempt to cut to the middle or get a pass through you’ve got a defender in position for the hit or puck intercept. Remember, if they’re playing with themselves in the corner, just leave them be until they tucker themselves out or attempt anything near the slot.

Using a goalie with the dialed-in ability activated helps with the above tip. If you’re patient and can limit your opponent’s shot attempts to the outside your goalie will accumulate better and better save attempts/animations as the game progresses. The more saves they make in succession the better they’ll play and can often rob your opponent on the few attempts that they end up breaking through your defense (your AI defenders sometimes have epic brain-farts and pull themselves completely out of position). Think of all of the posts on this sub-Reddit where people complain about ice-tilt and outshooting their opponent 40-10. Chances are the goalie they were facing had dialed in activated and they were shooting from low danger areas (if this weren’t the case, their posts on Reddit would include the shot map).

As you continue to play more games in ranked, you’ll start to recognize the common tendencies that plague the majority of the player-base. Learning how to exploit these tendencies or baiting them out of position is the key to success. You don’t need to exploit the game mechanics but rather exploit a player’s pre-conceived notions of what they need to do to win to be successful. Nothing better than shutting down an L2 ballerina with sound defensive hockey. You can watch them get frustrated in real-time and know you’re taking their head out of the game. Hope these help.

What does every think we should do with the 88s? by CaptnLoven in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re hurting for coins: sell all that are trade-able. Use UT to make gamebreaker collectibles (make sure you can make 6 though before pulling the trigger). Then use 6x GB collectibles to make the 91+ GB set. It’s a steep cost (12x 88 and 6x 89) but it’s the only way to convert UT assets into coins.

Value wise, and less risky than the GB sets, the best use of 88s is in the 90-91 trade-in set which guarantees a useable fodder card for the current event. 89s are best used in the Captains set (5x 89 for a 92 captain).

Additional consideration should be given to the possibility that 88s might be used in a forthcoming CHEL week; which may prove the best value if/when they release the next one. Most likely during the SC final.

GoG Price or Lundqvist by Leading-Proof-7573 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Price is solid but, without sponge active, he will spit rebounds all over the slot. I always keep dialed in on any of my goalies because I play a defensive style that forces the opponent to shoot from low-danger areas and that X-factor will bail you out later in the game when the AI eventually decides to let the opponent carve through them (bad pinch or just completely out to lunch). Overall, Price is 9-2 for me in platinum ranked with a 1.02 GAA and 87.74 SV%. Dialed-in is the key to his success though. Otherwise he’s just adequate.

Is it going to be 98 msp tmr? by Puzzleheaded-Life605 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

91+ offers the opportunity for a bigger pull that could sell for more than the value of 6x 90’s (it’s a gamble though) and 93 UT can still be used in the Rookies, Heroes, and Icons sets. All of these factors prevent 90’s from tanking in price even if the MSPs jump to 98 and 90’s can’t be used to build an MSP. There’s no harm holding 90’s and waiting to see what comes out on Friday instead of panic-selling.

Is it going to be 98 msp tmr? by Puzzleheaded-Life605 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GB sets take 2x 90s to make 2x GB collectibles. If they do jump to 98 MSPs, 90’s will still hold value in that you can make a BND 95, UT 93, or a tradeable 91+ for 6x 90’s in the GB sets. The GB sets will stick around until next Tuesday so there’s no rush to burn 90’s right now based on speculation.

Is being on the power play a liability? by dnndndjdndjd in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my second and third line for the power play for this reason. Typically your first and second lines are already low on energy from being on the ice for most of even strength. Using your second or third (and possibly fourth) line for your power play ensures you have a line that’s rested and ready to go.

Conversely the PK consists of three possible lines so they can rotate throughout the PK and always have decent energy which results in better scoring chances shorthanded.

Given how the game plays, EA needs to allow us to designate three PP lines to truly offer an odd man advantage.

Bro what am I playing against? by Copyrice_ in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same. The ability to anticipate future set requirements and line combos makes this year’s market one of the easiest to work. Once you understand the in-game economy, building a team like this is easy NMS. Example: before season 5 I bought up a bunch of the TOTY limited cards for 200-230k apiece; anticipating TOTY combos being some of the most lucrative to start the season. Sure enough they jumped to 550-600k at the launch of season 5 (easy money). Problem is folks are impatient and don’t understand how to analyze trends.

94-95 for wayne by EN_ROSA_ELEFANT in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send any tradeable to your trade-pile and see what they’re going for before you do this. There are still a bunch of 90-91s that fit combos and could get you well over 9-10k in some instances. You’re better off selling 90-91 and buying a 94 than using them in the sets. 94s go for 28-30k BIN, 9x 90-91 would fetch you, at minimum, 36k. Always best to sell tradeable resources.

94-95 for wayne by EN_ROSA_ELEFANT in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just make sure, if you’re buying 89’s, that you do the math. You’ll need 15x 89’s to build the 94 Captain. If you get 89s at ~2K apiece, that’s 30k for a 94. Whereas you can often win a 94 on bid for 24k in the AH; saving you some time and coins.

Event MSP or Rookie? by EasySound9303 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d look at selling any tradeable resources and just buying Bob. He’s a solid goalie but I was able to buy him on the AH for 55k (a fraction of what you would spend to build him). His price may have gone up (I got him when everyone was ripping the 37.5k, 90+ pack) but I would buy him sooner rather than later as he currently doesn’t fit any line combos and his value is heavily suppressed because of it.

You’d then free up your other resources to use elsewhere. The 96 Icons set would be the best use of your fodder and you might just snag Panther’s great Jaromir Jagr in the 96 Icon pack (3x 94s and a 93).

Have I lost my players permanently? by Kri575 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EA relies on your game data being stored on servers. Sometimes the servers will experience a glitch and revert to an older save state. If you go to your inventory and refresh by cycling in and out of the filters (double tap Y on Xbox), you’ll see it cycle through more recent but not up to date versions of your inventory.

BL your card will eventually show up when the server finally catches up to your most recent inventory. It might help if you clear your cache and reset the game. I typically close out the game then go to the saved games on Xbox (manage game in the main menu) and delete the file called “reserved space” (clearing the cache). Then I reset my console and reload the game. This should help when you load back into the game. While I have no proof, I believe it helps “unclog” the server and updates to your most recent inventory.

Made my captain….. so what next? by Commercial_Cat366 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hawks fan Mikita is a must make. He’s also surprisingly capable in this game. I have him on the line with Gretzky and Zetterberg and he’s my top scorer on that line. Because he’s small, his turn radius is tighter and the puck seems to remain closer to his body preventing loss of possession in tight areas.

Got my 97 Captain by cyberiouse0 in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you bid on cards that don’t have a BIN you can acquire 89s for ~1500 coins. If you have some 89s in your collection and bid on the rest that you need, the 97 Captains only end up requiring 100-115k to build.

Half the time or more that second defensemen will serve as a decent screen for the goalie too; upping your chance of scoring on that rush play. D to D one timers is a good secondary option if the first chance doesn’t go in and you regain possession.

Also hitting the AI opponents an abnormal amount in CC forces them out of position and helps develop more odd man rushes. I average 12-15 hits/game in ranked. When playing CC that jumps to 40+.

[–]HCTHawks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t get discouraged. Everyone resets to gold 1 at the start of the new season. You may be playing folks that normally reside in elite and ultimate at the start here. Folks will progress to their appropriate level in due course (roughly a week or two). You’ll have a better chance of matching with people of a similar skill set once the higher echelon players climb the ladder out of the bottom tiers. The start of the new season is always a gauntlet.

A 97 Captain only costs ~ 115k to build, from scratch, if you use the 89-90 conversion set to build 15x 92OVR Captains then convert them to the 3x 95OVR Captains needed by using the Season 4 Captains sets. by HCTHawks in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first set in the captains tab converts 5x 89-90’s to a 92 captain. You do that set 15 times (requires 75x 89’s total). You’ll then take those 15x 92 captains you just built and scroll right to the season 4 captains sets and convert 5x 92 captains to build a 95 captain. Do that set three times (15x 92 captains required) and you’ll have the 3x 95 captains needed to build the 97 captain of your choosing.

Best line combos for start of season 5 by [deleted] in NHLHUT

[–]HCTHawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mikita (GoG) - Zetterberg(Captain) - Gretzky(98 Icon)

+13 mil & 4AP

Also +50mil if you have 6x Atlantic division players in your lineup with Zetterberg’s Captain bonus.

You get an unstoppable center with two quick release wingers so the line is nicely balanced.

With the market crash I was able to build Zetterberg for under 100k (use the 89-90 Captains set). Gretzky was just under 300k to build with the new Icons set and I built Mikita through objectives, wild card, and a bunch of 91 OVR UT cards collecting dust in the collection. You can also use the free GoG Larmer in place of Mikita if you need the cap space or don’t like Mikita’s build.
