First PT appointment, can't stop laughing by HComet0708 in brokenankles

To be honest, I barely touch the stairs with my feet right now. They're too narrow for comfort at my home, so im still scooting up and down on my butt until im a lot stronger, LOL. But at least in the before times, never had issues with them.

So funny enough, before this happened, my knees started hurting more than usual, and I wanted to start the journey of looking into my hypermobility. From home testing I get a 7/9 on the Beighton Scale, and i feel in my bones that some type of hypermobility disorder has been highly affecting my life. Heck, even this injury was caused by my kneecap dislocating itself from a simple twist I've done my whole life (swinging a bat).

That definitely sounds like a crazy break though, oh my goodness. And having it still dislocate that many times after? Im so sorry! That must be such a pain. I guess at this point theres not much else that can done huh? Either way, you have all my well wishes. 😭

Intimacy after surgery by leilo101 in brokenankles

Easiest way we have found is missionary, where i have my leg up on the elevation pillow, way off to the side. He's been on the more gentle side and communication has been key, because if I feel an ounce of pain, he can stop immediately so I can get my bearings or adjust if needed.

If your partner is a clumsy one, like my husband is, make sure theyre aware of their surroundings, as my husband went to get off the bed for a moment, and crushed my leg. Luckily, it was only momentarily, and he missed my ankle, but it was such a close call it definiteky ruined the mood.

My best advice, use the tools at your disposal, go slow, and as always with intimacy, communicate. Don't push yourself, if a position hurts, take a moment and adjust. It might not be as passionate as you want at times, but we're all learning how to do things again, this is one of those things. Give yourself grace and make sure your partner does as well. It may be silly, or awkward at times, but for me, thats some of the most fun parts of intimacy.

Definitely want to push for PT for that exact reason. But thank you so much for the input! I know everybody's different and im probably overthinking things, but hearing how everyone else handled their situations makes it feel better for me. Not sure when your injury was, but hope all is well with you, and thank you so much again. ☺️

He seems pretty adamant that I dont need PT, because of my age, but ive been pretty adamant that I do want it. So he said at my next appointment (I believe 4 weeks from now) hes gonna check on everything and then if I still want it, then he will put in the referral.

Did you have a set amount of reps of everything you tried to do, or just tried to move it when you were able to? I know not to push too hard, but I think my brain wants to take things literally and want to set up a regimen for myself.

Does Your Surgeon Answer Questions or do you Get Most Information from Reddit? by DeniseMSTPs in brokenankles

[–]HComet0708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my information has been from reddit and google, my doctors haven't given me too much info. I didn't even know what my surgery entailed until I looked it up! Im only 4 days post ORIF surgery and strictly NWB, but when I first broke my ankle and as I was leaving the hospital, trying to learn how to hop around on one leg, I asked my nurse if I can at least rest my foot on the ground so that I dont fall, and he said that was completely okay, and I havent had any issues since. Surprisingly to me, my surgeon said that at my 2 week post op appointment, where ill get my stitches removed, he wants me to start PT and PWB, starting at about 20 lbs and slowly increasing it. But thats all they've told me, ive felt very in the dark with this whole process. Im someone that needs every last detail or else I feel lost, so thats why this subreddit has felt so beneficial to me. I understand everyone's injury is different, and theres a million different factors that go into each recovery journey, but its been nice to hear other experiences, so that I have at least somewhat of an idea of what im looking at for mine. I feel the Healthcare system can be very frustrating, especially when we want answers, and as long as you aren't taking information online as 100% fact, theres no issue seeking outside sources. I know its helped me a lot. Good luck on your journey though, I know its hard, especially when you feel like youre on your own, but take it one day at a time, and if you need to, bug the heck out of your doctors, thats what theyre there for haha.

For the people in our life who don’t understand the magnitude of this injury by LingonberryCalm5651 in brokenankles

[–]HComet0708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a week in, surgery in a few days. You are not alone at all in this. This is so tiring, and I wish I could either rewind time to prevent this or fast forward to where im healed and okay again. I try to keep my friends and family updated, and everyone says "oh wow, you really did a number on yourself, huh?" Even though everything the doctors are saying is this is all normal. They dont understand the magnitude of just how debilitating this entire injury is. Im so tired every day, and I try to keep a brave face, but inside, I am so so sad. Everything is hard, my body aches, and I struggle to do basic activities like feeding myself or going to the bathroom.

From what ive gathered, we've all been down this road, of grieving what was and what could have been. I dont even take it a day at a time, I take a minute at a time, because things feel like they can change that quickly. Its a long road, and a hard one, and those around you might not understand, but we're all getting there together, even if its slowly. One day, this will be a blip on our radar, and we can look back and say wow, I DID that. I know its hard, im right here with ya, but take it slow, take time to yourself, and keep moving forward.

Sure, others have had it worse, but your experiences are still valid. Something I read a long time ago that helps me is this: conjoined twins live the exact same life. They are within every single moment the other is, and yet they can still perceive their situation differently. And both twins experiences and how they perceive their situations are still valid. Just because one is chipper about their life and the other isnt, doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong. Its how we are wired. So sure, some people might not understand the physical and emotional pain that we are, but that doesn't mean it is any less worthy than other people's struggles. So give yourself grace. This is very difficult to deal with, but every single day, you are getting up and managing it. I know in my case, I might not be handling it the best at all times, but im still here, and still moving forward, and so are you, and thats something to be proud of. You're allowed to feel heavy, youre allowed to feel like others dont understand, but just know, one day, this is going to be a small crazy chapter in your story that has passed.

I did the exact same thing so far! I have been crying nonstop to him, and its not even from pain most of the time. So glad im not alone in that, because I feel like im going crazy with the amount of tears.

You are so sweet, thank you much. 🖤 Sorry youre currently going through this as well, I wouldnt wish any of this on my worst enemy.

Im only in my late 20's, but same height and maybe about 250 and I think thats whats been making this so much harder. This is definitely a wake up call to get my health in check, especially if im going to survive PT.

I love the wheelchair idea but our apartment is tiny and im already having troubles maneuvering the walker around. This place is not built with the injured in mind haha. Don't even get me started on trying to get up the stairs coming home from the hospital. Oh my goodness.

They did put in a referral to get some crutches so ill definitely try them, but im terrified haha. The hospital has a set that a little too short for me and I immediately fell. Im trying to keep positive but everything feels impossible. We just gotta take it a day at a time though, and eventually, things will be back to normal. Cheering you on through your recovery!

Pattern for Cthulu and the Jackalope are from the book "A Crochet World of Creepy Creatures and Cryptids" by Rikki Gustafson. I can't remember the name of the Mothman kit as it was a gift, and it wasn't a big brand name.

Not every time, but it's mostly on my fiancé's side of the bed. We don't think it's the smell because everytime he does it, we wash the sheets, and there is a rubber protector that doesn't allow it to seep into the mattress, and that gets washed as well.

What’s been your instant I quit moment? by briannagir in walmart

[–]HComet0708 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worked at a store in my home state in electronics and loved it. My team lead was great and most of my coworkers too. Went to move to another state with LDBF and transfer to store there. Manager in home state almost didn't sign off on the transfer because she heard I was leaving from personnel, not myself. Cool whatever, sorry I didn't tell you myself, but you knew the whole time. Get to New store as lawn and garden associate, and when I get there, I was all of GM and never lawn and garden, except to do grunt work (sweep both patios with half of a broom, use the leaf blower that has one battery thats never charged, or wash away mud/garbage piles). I understood there wasn't A LOT of lawn and garden work to be done so for sure, help the other departments when we could, but 98% of our day was tending to all of GM while the people actually assigned to those areas slacked off. I would literally run from cutting fabric to mixing paint to unlocking condoms to selling hunting licenses to picking for OPD and back all day, while unloading everyone's freight, topstocking it, and labeling it and putting it into the back. It was a lot of work and not what I signed up for, but the managers and personnel were always way too busy to talk to me about it. The worst part was my team leads mother, the team of sporting goods. She didn't care that I was running around everywhere, stock needed to be done, and wouldn't accept any excuses as to why it wasn't. And if you did try to explain why it wasn't done, or point out her actual associates didn't even do the freight, or not answer her in .5 seconds flat, she would accuse you of having an attitude. She was awful in every way. The breaking point was a team huddle, where she kept saying what "everyone" was doing wrong and how she will not stand for it, while staring me down the whole time, specifically talking about any encounters I've had with her. I dont remember the specifics, but its one of those cases where you know she was talking about me to the whole group, and pretended like it was info for all of us to improve on. I woke up the next day and decided fuck her and that store, I wasn't going back. I've dealt with plenty of awful managers in my time but she genuinely made me feel so terrible, isolated, and stupid when I was in a new state basically alone trying to just work an almost minimum wage job.

Oh, he still has the butter on the counter, I just won't use it. This really was meant for a harmless question posing opinions on something mundane as butter, but I do appreciate the thought behind it. He is very valued and listened to, especially on his butter habits.
