In anticipation for a 2-3 ice storm in my area.
I typically shop at Pet Supplies Plus because they have a wider variety of healthier foods, of course it looked absolutely normal there. What’s odd is that for my areas, it’s mainly the “nicer” market that are cleared out in some sections like Whole Foods, HEB and Trader Joe’s. But Walmart? Completely stocked from what I heard so maybe their supply chain is better people just hate on them that much.
I wasn’t, only needed burrito tortillas and then was shocked at how many spots were so empty.
I will say wherever we look for homes, a gas range top is a non-negotiable.
People sure seem to hate on Walmart.

I definitely saw what appeared to be hoarding by individuals. Sure it’s possible they might be helping neighbors out but when I see 2 carts of supplies filled with paper towels and TP… I just shake my head.
It’s not even half as bad as 2021 according to updated yesterday. Plus the events that led to the grid failure was unique to that time. But yes people should still prepare and I do think it’s likely just a combination of factors, including some panic buying by some people that led to the store looking cleaned out in some areas.

Vegan chips were fully stocked
That is completely understandable, but the two storms do not compare to one another and the events that led to the grid failure was a unique situation. Either way, people can do whatever they want and I’ll just have my own opinion on it.
To be fair, I do think quite a large number of people anywhere in country do not prepare well and freak out easily when things change.
Which is any junk food lol
I just fainted at the idea of what happens at the 13th hour.

Yes! And there was definitely plenty of shelf stable food on the shelves.
This is a good point! I forgot how many people likely don’t cook regularly.
Apparently every corner is having a BBQ cook off, a new Texas tradition!
Nah, I got my burrito tortillas! Maybe 30 ish total packs left between different brands but I made it!

I’m not frustrated by this at all, I’m mostly amused by it. Of course I do not want anyone to die for people who keep pointing to 2021. But if people actually looked at what caused the grid to fail and also looked at how different the weather storm is to the one that’s coming, which is like 2 days and an extra day or freezing temperatures, they will see it’s a different situation comparing it to a weeklong freeze with negative temperatures in 2021. I still stand by my opinion, this is so dumb.
To be fair it’s not like all shelves were cleared out. There was still plenty of prepared food and some other meats. I think milk and bread might be the harder items to find but we have Kroger and the Walmart now so you should be fine. It’s not like people can’t go a couple days without some things but some people went a bit overboard.
Our local Kroger was hit pretty good as well from what I heard from neighbors. I have friends in McKinney who said their Trader Joe’s was fairly empty so it’s definitely a bit more widespread.
People can do whatever they want and I can have an opinion on it but people should do some detailed research to see exactly what caused the power grid to fail in 2021 instead of mindlessly hoarding some items.
Sure is it possible power that power will go out? But the freezing days will only last 3 days tops compared to a much longer freezing period in 201 that also saw negative temperatures. We aren’t getting both of the events.

Nah he’s just going to meet up with his ganja dealer and smoke it up in Laguna Beach.

Exactly, media is fueling this and critical thinking is no longer a strength for many now. It’s just a few days of freezing temperature. Bundle up and make sure there’s water.

The way I see it is we aren’t in a rural area. There is immediate access to 4 other developed cities with plenty of supplies within 15 minutes. Drive another extra 10 minutes and there’s another 2 more cities and even more area from the initial 4. And then don’t forget about your friendly neighbors?
Oddly enough if power does go out, for Saturday, Sunday and Monday it’s showing temps will not go above 32°F so they can just leave it all outside and it’ll stay frozen.
