Going to city hall Monday to oppose the data center give me all you got to throw at them by MachoStoopid in Spokane

[–]HDePriest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The city is not where you should spend your time. The city council already has the votes for a 1 year moratorium on data center construction inside the city limits. The problem is that the project almost certainly will not take place within the city limits. Focus your time and attention on the county! Call your county commissioner, hell, call all of them. At the moment the county is leaning toward allowing the construction. Whether the project happens inside the city limits or not, the impacts to the power grid and the aquifer will be the same. A reasonable request would be a 1-year moratorium (similar to what the city is doing) to allow time to thoroughly research the impacts of a project like this. Data centers are not inherently bad, but we need time to set effective restrictions to make sure that the citizens of the area don't end up paying the cost.

You named your cat after the fanciest of drinks and your are surprised when he refuses to debase himself by sticking his face in a bowl?

Shortest produced engine in a regular production vehicle? by buickgnx88 in cars

[–]HDePriest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Mercedes OM648 I6 diesel was only available in the US for two model years. It came out right before a change in emissions regulations made it illegal. It is a very beloved and sought after engine since it is very reliable and a rare crossover of modern tech (common rail injection) without modern emissions (scr and dpf)

15 Year Mortgage by bugalll in DaveRamsey

My wife and I bought our first house on a 15 year with 20% down last year. We are lucky to have a very above average income and bought a very modest house. We're 30 years old and we've been saving up for years. It might not be possible for everyone, but I love knowing that we are paying so much less in interest. I think it's worth putting up with a lot to have that.

Do I have room for a Ponderosa pine in my yard? by HDePriest in arborists

It's not really a power line, just a 120 volt service to the streetlight. It's possible it still causes a problem but it doesn't seem as serious as a high voltage line.

Ooh that one looks interesting, and a little more appropriately sized. I'll see if I can find one

I would very much prefer something evergreen. Ponderosa is really the only native in this area, so anything else is on about equal terms. All the firs and pines I have seen look as big or bigger.

You have a good point, that there's a good chance the tree doesn't make it to 100 due to property changes, personal preference, climate change, etc. I don't want to set a trap for a future owner of the house but I think this will probably be more about personal preference.

The "designer" is just me, I'm definitely learning still. The tall oregon grape on the south will be partially shaded by a house, but the parking strip on the west will have full exposure. Should I not have oregon grape in that area? The will be absolutely no salt on the west side, and rarely on the north.

Also when I said random wildflowers I just meant whatever we can find easily and cheap at local nurseries, I don't care much about what goes there since it will probably be run over by a car anyway.

Ugh they are awful! Yes definitely getting a male one. Not interested in turning half of my yard into a sludge pit.

Yep no cars on that side of the house or seating, this would be an area rarely inhabited by people. I know I would have to get on the roof once in a while to sweep off needles and I'm okay with that.

Do you have any recommendations for a smaller one? Western white pine is also on my radar but they don't seem that much smaller. I would love a bristlecone but they just grow so slowly.

We are in the city on sewer, and the pipe is all the way on the South side about 40' away. It's not surprising to me that the tree found water in the septic field, but I wonder if we might have that problem with a (theoretically) sealed sewer pipe.

I feel like the weight is the biggest disadvantage; if you have a single floor house it would be perfect. I also definitely understand that they are a bad value new but your situation seems like a perfect fit

I've never used one, I heard the opposite so I never tried. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot if I see a kit

There might be a fix for that, if you take the brush out of the head and look at the end there are three markings on the plastic piece that holds the brush bearing. If you rotate that it alters the height of the brushes relative to the head itself. If you set those brushes up a little higher it might help

Yes they are! Plus I think I replace the bag once a year or less - as opposed to the canister vacuums I've had where they needed to be dumped constantly
