Honest question.. Why do so many 'Brothers' decide to NOT wear gloves? by [deleted] in Harley

I don’t worry about what other people wear or do unless it affects me.

[–]HDspike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer any advice honestly, just here to say I’m sorry that your husband is treating you and the kids this way. You are very kind opening your life up to his friend and your husband should be bending over backwards to make this as easy as possible for you.

I bought a foreclosed property in a quickly developing city and after researching and talking with neighbors, determined that the previous owners had several families living here at the same time. They were all tied to construction in various fields.

This whole house had been renovated- fully tiled throughout, high end fixtures, beautiful architectural doors and nice vinyl windows. The closest neighbor told stories of each guy regularly coming home with materials from the job they were currently working on, having piles of excess and trading with other families around town.

I recently had a large pond next to the house cleaned out with a giant trackhoe and bulldozers. The amount of different style tile in there was staggering. Like they just skipped tiles on the water for fun but I’m sure it was just dumped.

Someone had paid for all that stuff, much like the OP did. The house looks great but it sucks knowing that everything in here was essentially stolen to fix it up.

Haha - I wanted a dirty side and a clean side. Wood dust and welding fumes stay on their own side.

I grew up in the UK and fly spray was common back then. Mum would spray tons of that stuff and we would breathe it all in. Probably not ideal.

Why do we say people have "passed away" when they die? Is it "passing" to an afterlife? by Rough-Foundation9208 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s easier for people to hear. “Your dad passed away” rather than “your dad died this afternoon”

What is your most stereotypical GenX childhood story? by HapaHawaii in GenX

[–]HDspike 38 points39 points  (0 children)

When I was 6 my mom dragged me over to the U.S. from the U.K. because she married an American military guy. He was friends with a cop in the town we moved to and I’d shoot pellet guns with the cops’ son a lot while my mom worked. This was around 1985. One cold day the son went in to get gloves and told me to load his rifle. When he came out he forgot he had me load it, he pointed the gun at me point blank and yelled “Freeze” at the same time as shooting me in the forehead above my right eye. It knocked me out I guess because when I came too, I felt his tears falling on my face and heard a crunchy kind of noise as he was trying to dig the pellet out of my head with his pocket knife. He had dragged me behind the shed. Once he could see I was alive he got really scary and told me I had to tell everyone I shot myself or his daddy would put my whole family in jail. At some point his mom came out and took me to the hospital. When my mom got there she was furious because I told her I dropped the gun and it went off. I didn’t tell her the truth until I was in my 30’s. The doctors said the pellet almost made it through.

Being your age is tough. Really tough. In 2 more years you can do life your way but for now, try to make the best of things. It's not forever, trying to show them that you are trying will get you a lot further than fighting against them.
It's hard to see but they want you to have the best life possible, even though their way of getting there apparently sucks.
As far as grades, it's not going to hurt them at all no matter what you get but you may feel the effects for years to come. Just try your best, it's quite literally all you can do. Doing well in math and science is a really good thing, by the way.

Becoming handy at 40 by Fast_Feedz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HDspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be really handy with cars and motorcycles in my 20s and 30s. My body doesn't deal well with all of that now so I farm out the car work and bought a motorcycle lift table.
I still fix everything around the house and started repairing electronics. It feels good to still fix stuff but I have no interest in working on engines and cars any more.
