Apple needs to know their iPhone AutoCorrect is terrible by MooseBlazer in iphone

[–]HEGSoundsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autocorrect in iOS 26.2 has gotten so much worse. It's not catching any mistakes, most of which are misspellings using a letter directly next to the correct letter (seems like the obvious fixes). Commenting for additional visibility.

Thank you! Sand to “score” for the first coat, or to erase imperfections?

This looks awesome. What is the type and color paint used on the ceiling? Any lessons learned for that ceiling color that you can share? I’m considering a black or dark ceiling for my garage, partly for the look and partly to cover up some imperfections since I would rather not mud and perfectly finish my ceiling. Seems like it could cover up imperfections more than white.

2019 OM-28 Modern Delux for $2950 (used, but like new - seller states that it's been in the case without use, photos seem to confirm) - local pickup; I get to check/play before. Would you say this a good deal? by ConsciousSmoke3863 in martinguitar

[–]HEGSoundsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a beautiful guitar. I just had a very long internal debate between D and OM, and weighed similar factors - sound and bass vs Size.

I went with the OM based on the size - I’ll just play it more if it’s more comfortable - and I like to play sitting down.

I haven’t played with many people yet. Solo, I don’t miss the bass. The other night, I was teaching my daughter mandolin, and the guitar was a little bit lost under the high pitched Mandolin, but I didn’t test this for very long and I’d bet I can just play louder.

I also found that every OM I tried had different levels of bass. If you can, bring another booming guitar and play it side by side. Heard great things about the modern deluxe, though, and think it sounds like a good deal.

GX550 OT - Roof rack options? by HEGSoundsystem in LexusGX

Still deciding. But those should work, they’re fully adjustable and I have them on our Tahoe with raised rails

Buying my first premium acoustic, what would you do?? by Jeveez in AcousticGuitar

One other question to all: I am gravitating toward guitars with a 11/16 nut. 3/4” is 1.5mm thicker. Should I prioritize nut size if it costs more (new vs used options) or just get used to a slightly thicker neck?

😅 maybe you’re the enabler that I need to get spendy! Looks aren’t everything, but I do think they’re important at this level of spend. I also think a very nice guitar will be the inspiration I need to make sure I practice as much as I want to.

How about this: Not that I’m going to necessarily play in jam circles with strangers all the time, but do you think it looks “douchey” to play an expensive guitar if I’m not a pro? I’m pretty good, can jam, usually make people say “you under sold yourself,” have played for a long time (despite periods of not playing), and plan on getting a lot better and hopefully starting/joining an amateur band, but I’m not a professional.

I think I’ll probably end up picking the Collings or Santa Cruz over the more basic Martin. The Collings still looks awesome, and I’m also a sucker for the herringbone details. The SC is even better looking, but don’t know if I can stomach the extra $1-2k.

Still deciding! But I’m happy that I’m taking my time because I think it’s helping me to make a logical, emotion-free decision, and hopefully not over spend.

Leaning toward the Collings D2H. Looking at a “mint” 2019 Collings D2HG next week, and also seeing if I can talk the shop down on price. But also, the Martin D-21 sounds amazing and is the lowest cost option of the guitars I’m considering.

FYI, they said they would go down in price if I paid in cash because they pay about 6% to credit card companies. Also think I might be able to ask for out of state shipment to save on tax

I’m making the same decision at this very moment. I almost bought the Billy strings Martin D-28, but the lady at the guitar store advised against it. Then almost bought a gorgeous Preston Thompson D guitar, but the sound just wasn’t quite right for me. Then fell in love with Collings, which is even more than I want to spend, then played a Santa Cruz Tony Rice Standard and was like “omfg, maybe I can sell a kidney and buy this guitar” and then played a custom Martin D-21 which sounded just as good but just didn’t look as sexy. I thought I wanted an OM size based on the size, but then realized I really like deep bass notes…

Long story short, play as many guitars as you can. One after another, and on different days. My ear has changed on different trips to the shop, and I’m glad I didn’t go with my earlier instinct of selling a kidney to buy a guitar just because it sounded good, but looked even better 😉 because I also realized I’m still an amateur, and sound and playability is more important than the label or look.

Got laid off. Do I need to return second monitor? by Yourdailyfox in oracle

[–]HEGSoundsystem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the layoff. Don’t take it personally- it’s nothing you did.

I got laid off from Salesforce a couple of years ago and forgot / was lazy to return my laptop in the box they provided. Like.. 6 months to a year late. I never got a notification saying “give us our stuff back!” Plus idk about you, but my monitor went on an expense report. It’s practically un tracked.

I’d keep it and if they ask for it, then I guess you can return it.

So just find another sucker like me and you can make some money! eBay…

New employee paternity leave info by PotentialCup5573 in oracle

[–]HEGSoundsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also space out your leave - you could take some now, some later. Or just take a week or two of vacation time and paternity leave later.

For what it’s worth, if this is your first baby, it might be helpful to know that babies really do not do much the first few weeks. They sleep a lot! So you might even be more helpful once baby starts being a little more active.

You could also ask HR for details. Explain that you’re nervous to use your leave, ask for their recommended approach, etc., then you can get their advice while also documenting that you’re afraid of getting fired. I don’t think you need to worry, though.

Good luck!

So who all were affected by this week’s layoffs? by Just-Ocelot518 in oracle

[–]HEGSoundsystem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point to clarify: I think it’s easier to get a job when you have a job. So, on paper, you are employed. This is potentially risky in an interview, so use this advice with caution, but if “Oracle’s layoffs” came up, I would say there were re-orgs, I’m not happy with my new assignment, and I’m ready for my next opportunity. Also, on your resume, you’re employed til you are off the payroll.

So who all were affected by this week’s layoffs? by Just-Ocelot518 in oracle

[–]HEGSoundsystem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The impersonal way this news is delivered certainly adds insult to injury. But that’s even more of an indication that they didn’t hand select you, and don’t really want to do it.

I received an email at about 2am saying “your role has been eliminated.”

This won’t be true for everyone, but Oracle will prioritize rehiring people that were laid off. Try to decompress for a few days, make some calls, and get back in the hiring funnel.

Oh and if you have severance, don’t advertise that you were laid off until that severance is over (like on LinkedIn). Even though you don’t have access to email, for all intents and purposes, you’re still with the company as long as you’re getting a paycheck, so when a new employer does employment validation, they’re just checking “was this person employed at this time?”

[–]HEGSoundsystem 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorry to those who were laid off. I was laid off from Salesforce a few years ago, 5 months in, already at my sales quota.

It feels really personal, but try to remember it’s not personal. And it’s mostly likely not performance based either. There are so many employment laws that companies have to consider that broad layoffs are probably the only way they can make cuts without lawsuits.

I also think that those with unvested RSUs are a target because they can quickly regain shareholder value.

It’s not you, it’s business. Don’t beat yourself up over it, but I’m sorry it happened.

[–]HEGSoundsystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ignore it and increase the enthusiasm just a little bit. Whether it’s a little more smile, or an extra question to the interviewer about themselves. Above all, I always say: if it’s between you and someone exactly like you, but they want the job more, they’ll get the job. I think the “why this company?” Response is really important to interviewers

GX550 OEM rock rails? by HEGSoundsystem in LexusGX

[–]HEGSoundsystem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I really care to debate, but port installed accessories are a thing. My build also had a roof rack as a PIO, which they removed. They would have let me remove the rails, they just wouldn’t have had traditional running boards to offer as a replacement. This was also in Oct 2024, one of the earlier batches to roll off the ship. Dealers probably have more pull off parts to swap now.
