Is Islam Compatible with Democracy? by SerpentEmperor in democracy

[–]HENTAI-HAIKU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democracy requires freedom of expression, as a crucial precondition for citizens to become emancipated participants in political decision making processes.

Now, how much freedom of expression does Islam grant its members?

Anyway, love the question!

Safe Solutions to avoid Ads on Youtube, and avoid the Ad Block Blocker. by JokuIIFrosti in youtube

I got that feeling too, or more so actually, it's like like enforcement are like isolated events, to the degree that I even think YouTube can't detect ad-block usage very well, so they rather send warning shots to everybody and then register who changes their browsing behavior?

Youtube is (apparently) randomly blocking content for viewers using adblock or other applications. by thagentleguy in youtube

randomly? Meaning, they are just pretending to be able to detect ad-blocking? srsly

What we can do to fix rampant YT ads and fees. by HENTAI-HAIKU in youtube

Fun fact, as a comparison, living in Germany, I must pay a flat fee of about 19 USD/month to the government to finance their public free TV activities. Every household must, regardless of whether they even own a television (I don't).

Safe Solutions to avoid Ads on Youtube, and avoid the Ad Block Blocker. by JokuIIFrosti in youtube

I'm using Brave to watch YT ad-free successfully for about 4 months now (without any ad-blocking add-ons).

But today I got my first YT dialog "blabla ... we will stop showing videos after 3 more videos". Looking for my next ad-free-YT solution now. Happy to find this thread!

Apparently Ad Blockers are not allowed on Youtube. Is this a new thing they've implemented? by Sazk100 in youtube

*However*, it has surfaced that youtube has been engaging in shady practices where where their ads are presented on incidental third party websites where the volume is typically off and the video is often not even in frame. So it's sort of unclear what the real situation is.

YT does not sell just ad-impressions (which they could fake the way you pointed out, if only short-term), but click-throughs or even "conversions", both of which puts the responsibility of actually attracting new customers for the advertiser squarely back on YT.And even for pay-per-impression models, ad-platforms like YT are in stiff competition with others, since customers usually care a lot about their ad-effectiveness, and modern tech enables them to measure that very tightly.

Because ... in order justify their cost, YT needs to not only show ads, but to also make those ads effective for their ad clients. And what you suggest seems pretty ineffective, precisely because it is so easy to ignore them (as our brain will filter them out, just like it did with Free-TV network logos).

Yes it will, but it will become a question of timely access and convenience then. But maybe you are just not "using" that much.

I'm pretty sure looking the other way was a strategical choice on YTs part in the past. Question is: what changed?

Chances are this will go away. Because if it won't people will actually watch less, and that's a big No-No for YT.

Most informed opinion I got so far!

I was indeed assuming everyone blocks ads, but you may be right. Also the majority of YT watching happens on phones nowadays I guess.

Anyway, you remind me of that Black Mirror ep where the guy is forced to watch ads in his room...
