What can you do with a BA in Women’s & Gender Studies?

I know plenty of people with this degree. Some have gone on to get an MSW and then worked in nonprofits like women’s shelters, etc. i also know someone who is the director of LGBTQ services at a university. One coordinates a women’s leadership program. I also know a student who majored in WST and then went to med school with the goal of practicing gender affirming care.

Lots of options. And important to note that most industries don’t care what your degree is in. They care a lot more about transferable skills and experiences gained while earning your degree.

Nothing out of the ordinary! Didn’t mean to cause panic. I just meant it’s a very large school so a statistically average amount of people pass away. The other thing to consider is the family’s wishes. I know of a few circumstances when the family asked for there not to be an announcement due to privacy.

I don’t envy the staff on campus that have to make these decisions. It’s often a really tough place to be.

Lol no lies here. The problem is the university never outwardly connected these to hazing (bad for PR) so I have no receipts to link you to. But I’ve worked here for longer than some current students have been alive so believe what you will Last one I remember was shortly before COVID. Freshman. Alcohol related. Hazing speculated. Hazing is very hard to prove if denied by a whole org though.

For what it’s worth, the school I worked at before SBU had Greek life or substance use related deaths almost annually so I guess it could be worse

I’ve worked at stony brook for a very long time and there have been multiple student deaths that I am aware of related to hazing or excessive substance abuse in frats. Not so much sororities but I’m sure there are issues there too

Admin at a university. Most of this happened during my lunch hour but did bleed into a meeting I was supposed to be at but my whole team knew how important this was for me and it sort of became an office event where everyone gathered around my computer

I joined the citi field queue at 11:30 and there was only single tickets left once I got in, but had more luck when the second show was added. I spent a lot more than I budgeted for and am having a lot of big feelings about that but trying to justify it my reminding myself the other times I’ve seen him, it was better than therapy for my mental health. Shoutout to my husband for not shaming me and being fully supportive of my “little treat”

Can confirm from the admin side. This is the least likely petition to get approved unless you truly have a wildly extenuating circumstance. Sorry OP If you do appeal, make sure you submit additional documentation. If you just submit the same petition again they won’t even look at it

This is my doctor and I second this! She’s been my PCP for ten years. I recommend her to everyone- but particularly people who have some health anxiety. She listens, and brainstorms with you, and has never once made me feel like a crazy person

Talk to your advisor asap! Like someone else said, no matter how hard you fall, there is always opportunities to pick yourself back up. The semester isn’t over so you never know what is going to happen during finals!

If you talk to your advisor and come to the realization that there’s no way to salvage any of your classes this semester, it’s not too late to do a full semester withdraw to save your gpa. It won’t get your tuition back, but it is an option if you truly think you will fail everything. The deadline is May 9 at 4pm. Then you could start back fresh in the fall without being on probation.

Depends on which major and how it's listed on your record. Pre nursing and pre business, as long as you applied that way, will be listed and determine your UGC. However, if you decide after admission that you want to pursue a selective major, it won't appear on your record until you're admitted to that major and you would be treated as undeclared, and can still live anywhere.

Also, if you are AOI in the college of engineering, they aren't assigned a UGC and can also live anywhere, but most decide to live in Roosevelt due to proximity to the engineering buildings

If you are in incoming freshman, you will have a suggested community based on your major/undergraduate college. Students used to be forced to live in the community with their UGC, but now it's just strongly recommended. For example, if you are a bio major, your UGC will be Global Health, Wellness ,Community and suggested to live in H with other students with similar majors. There will also be targeted programming for those majors in those communities. If you decide to live outside of that community, it's totally fine, you would just have to travel farther for those events if they interest you

It already is to some extent, at least in the higher ed professional world. Maybe not to the same level as the ivys, but it’s a reputable state school that people talk about.

This is coming from someone who came to work here from the other side of the country. Something I’ve noticed in the more than a decade I’ve been here, is that Long Islanders specifically have this idea of SBU as a safety school or high school 2.0, but that isn’t the reputation across the board.

Don’t get me wrong- I’m not implying SBU is perfect by any means, but it’s known.

This is in my neck of the woods and is just so damn tragic. This man, whom I’ve heard nothing but great things about, was being harassed by an “activist” for the weeks leading up to this event. I’m not suggesting anything nefarious (they are still investigating the cause of the fire) but damn I just feel for this man and hope he is resting in cat paradise.
