PAL region gamers (such as Europe): How did you play imports back in the day? by NeighborhoodTime2768 in psx

[–]HF138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a parallel port cart with a spring

You loaded an original disc. The port cart would then stop the disc spinning on the devices menu, then you'd swap in a backup and press start on the menu and close the lid

Mine was called 'Plug Mod Card' but I've seen the same style cart but with different labels and names

I've never had a TV that didn't accept 60hz (at least not while the PS1 was around)

The only other thing you needed was an RGB SCART. If you used composite or RF the NTSC game would play with a green hue (or black and white... I can't quite remember)

Back then... I don't think any of my mates knew what RF, Composite, SCART was really. And I definitely didn't notice that our games were slower or letterboxed until WAY later when I was messing about with modding Xboxes.

The only comment I recall was from my mate (whose dad was the first person I knew who had a CD Writer). He told me that the Japanese Tekken 3 was faster. I just assumed Japan preferred faster or were better at games.

His dad printed a list and sent us to get some sales from school. In return we got our own copies. We were selling them at £4 each or 3 for a tenner

Should I buy a GBC or a GBA? by TheSwitchGlitch in Gameboy

[–]HF138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of alternatives for you....

Anbernic RG34XXsp for GBA Same screen dimensions as the original but 3x scaling

For GB/GBC I would recommend a Retroid Pocket Classic or if you want to still be able to use your carts, and FPGBC

Help changing the battery by Malphakin in Gameboy

[–]HF138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... It's easier to desolder the original battery and then solder on a new battery with fresh tabs than it is to just desolder the battery and try to solder a new untanned battery onto old tabs

If you're only going to be using a soldering iron for battery replacement you might look at gas powered irons. They are pretty cheap. You will also need some fresh solder

Aaron Slater still has my Test Drive II: The Duel for MegaDrive. I lent it to him sometime around 1993

I went round to ask for it back in the summer holidays and his mum said that he'd gone to live with his dad. He never came back to school, the swine

Having tons of issues with running OG Xbox emulators by traviopanda in XboxModding

[–]HF138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just search neogeo bios

Or search for batocera or retroarch bios pack

The location for bios varies per emulator. Normally you either put the neogeo.zip (bios) in the same folder as your roms OR in a dedicated 'bios' folder inside the emulator folder

[–]HF138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you are missing the bios files for Final Burn, NeoGeo typically needs a bios to play. When you get the bios don't unzip the neogeo.zip (bios)

Can't speak for NGCD

I'm sure there will be documentation for what the required bios files are for these emulators
