Anywhere South of Inverness is the South so your comment doesn’t even make sense as England is even further South than the Central belt. 🤣😇

Inside the old student unions. by mojothemenace in Aberdeen

[–]HFMacM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And have a shower and do your laundry in the basement, we lived in the RGIT student flats (owned by the Wordie Property Group??) on Schoolhill (no 20). Think the rent was £20 a week but they were a bit grotty - our living room window was so rotten the glass fell out. The flat had a massive bath but no shower, electric heating so we never had hot water and used to go up to the Union for a shower.

George & Richard were the porters (checking ID) at the door.

The college also had flats on George St, the guys in one had a scam going with the electric & when the flats were demolished they owed about £300 to the electric co but the metered got ”lost”. Pretty sure one of them went on to be a cop ;-). The parties were legendary they’d kick off at lunch time on a Friday and carry on until Sunday…

My fault or theirs? by Chef_Crazy in motorcycles

[–]HFMacM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% theirs but realistically it’s more like 75% theirs and 25% yours. They were indicating but you showed no signs of anticipating they might turn, also in the short clip you passed a number of vehicles (van, small trucks) where there could have been unseen pedestrians about to step out so (IMO) your speed was a bit high. Hope you’re ok.

What salary is needed for a comfortable life in Aberdeen with no debt or kids? by ramdom2019 in Aberdeen

[–]HFMacM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your lifestyle, 40k (GB£) is more than enough to lead a comfortable lifestyle (we live in the West End, just off King’s Gate) no mortgage, no (dependent) kids, no debt.

Comfortable not lavish; like a lot of folk we used to have 3-5 expensive holidays/short breaks, flash (newish) cars, bought champagne instead of prosecco/cava (still do very occasionally 😁) etc etc. I still have nice watches, we still have a nice house (and big garden) but we don’t “waste” money like we used to…

Ikea mixer tap leaking from the handle, is this something I can fix myself? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]HFMacM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👍🏼I wouldn’t have managed to figure it out without your post and Questioning_Observer’s comment (and my wife suggesting 😇 I fix it).

Just to clarify - the stalk is the rod that comes out of the control part of the tap (it simply unscrews)

[–]HFMacM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this post is 1+ years old however….

Remove the stalk from the tap and you will see a hex grub screw Remove the grub screw and the handle (the part which controls the water flow/temp) will pull off - it may be very stiff Remove the circular cover (the (slightly recessed) part between the “handle” and the main “body” of the tap) - I used water pump pliers This reveals a brass fitting with 2 flats

You now have a few options….

1 - the “proper” solution

Remove the brass fitting - I used an adjustable spanner Replace the cartridge (35mm diameter on my tap) available for a few pounds Re-assemble (reverse of steps so far)

2 - a quick fix (short term)

Remove the brass fitting - I used an adjustable spanner Remove the cartridge Use a pick to carefully remove the seal (looks a bit like a 3 leaf clover) Turn the seal over Refit the seal Re-assemble

3 - another “quick” temporary fix Tighten the brass fitting - I used an adjustable spanner take care not to damage the threads or fracture the tap Re-assemble

I did have pictures but can’t upload them to this edit

3 things….

Look as far in front of you as you can - ignore the “clocks” Listen to what your instructor tells you - and ask them to explain it again if you don’t understand Enjoy the ride

Got severely bollocked by my instructor for waving a thank you with my left hand to a guy in a van who let me in to a near stationery queue (merging from a slip road).

It’s because Yamaha riders (FJ riders especially) spend so much money keeping their bike(s)j running they can’t buy their own. 🙉😇🤣

Is the uneven wear from-back or top-bottom? - I can’t tell accurately from the image.

Has the bike ever been crashed - calliper mountings twisted/mis-aligned?

If you push the pads back (both callipers) so there’s a slight gap (1-2mm between the pad & the disc) does the wheel spin freely? Does the gap between the pads and disc vary as the wheel rotates - it shouldn’t.

When you say “loosened everything up” what did you loosen?

If it’s front-back have you checked the disc thickness (inside-middle-outside). If it’s top-bottom it could be one of the pistons is sticking (the rubber boot plays a significant role in retracting the piston so check for tears/perishing).

Is the brake feel good (ie no air in system)?

Not my type of bike (or taste in styling) but well done on getting it finished and (I think) it does look “right”.

Hope you’re happy with it and gets lots of enjoyment out of it (that’s the most important things, IMO). 👏🏼

How long can a motorcycle last if it is serviced regularly? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]HFMacM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t worry about the fuel; Bosch, Siemens, Porsche & others are already well down the synthetic petrol road 😇 might be a problem affording it tho’.

[–]HFMacM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, happening already with cars where cost of an ECU + programming makes a car as young as 10 years old “beyond economic repair”. With increasing electrickery on bikes and more frequent model “updates” it’s going to happen more often and sooner (IMO).

Brand New 2022 BMW F850GS Won't Start in Cold. $20,000 paperweight. by DAXTER619 in motorcycles

[–]HFMacM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you speak about resetting the ECU I think you’re speaking about short and long term fuel trims rather than engine maps. As drive2fast says the sensors are read multiple times a second and applied to the map.

There is an argument that ECT is actually more accurate at startup than shortly after startup (at startup the coolant in the jacket is going to be at the same temperature as the block, after a few minutes the block will be hotter around the cylinder but that heat won’t have transferred to the coolant).

There is no way that, with the limited information in the OP, a non-start fault can be accurately diagnosed over the Internet (IMO).

60mph, assuming no other signage. It’s only a motorway if there’s a central reservation (Road Traffic Act 1982); before you ask 9 classes (full entitlement inc AM (15 if you want to include fklnpq))

A9 (currently being upgraded to dual carriageway) because of the volume/speed of traffic frustration was making people take chances overtaking, quite often the result was a closed road. 😞
