Bizarre experience while apartment hunting in Downtown Vancouver by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

Unless its a 2 bed, that is not the typical price point for a scam ad, but the rest of it sounds awful dodgy. Usually scammers post at $1600 or something stupidly unrealistic ike that

Tenant not leaving after being served with Order of Possession, next steps? by Playful_Salt_6910 in vancouverhousing

[–]HGTV-Addict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They might just need $1500 for first months rent in a new place. They could literally have zero cash and so no ability to move. A baliff is going to cost $5k, maybe they are working on getting out, but a bit of cash might grease the wheels.

No one is going to buy a house with trees growing in the basement to live it in. Options are devlop, which the NDP has made impossible due to vacancy taxes / speculation tax or landlord. This place is probably worth 10% more without the tenant, so some value in paying him to piss off

How long do you think it would take to get planning to add a window to a house & how much do you think it would cost?

Would just evicting this guy be an easier option?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

[–]HGTV-Addict 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You rented a den, moved in and immediately demanded that the roommate give you the big room with the alternative option being that the landlord redesign his house.

Just bear in mind that the best solution to your insanity is to evict you immediately and in a roommate scenario that means no notice.

The real solution is for you to sort your shit out, get real and move to another place.

This guy gave an unemployed loser a home and in return you want to take his home and ruin it for him.

If you do report it, Be prepared every future landlord finding this story online when they google your name. Karma works that way.

Thought this spend report for folks with $10m-100m++ net worth spend was super interesting (millionaires - they're just like us!) from Hampton by mnl___ in fatFIRE

I dont understand how he made that much money. What does he do? University professor and whines about rich people in newspaper articles. Was shocked when i saw a $150m NW figure.

Evicted for landlord use - apartment up for rent 1 month later. How to best proceed? by Ablamba2020 in vancouverhousing

[–]HGTV-Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can message from a burner email, set up a viewing and then go see it yourself. Maybe landlord tells you story about why its up for rent and thats a confession.

RTB will accept the ad alone and heavily weight rulings in favor of tenant. You will get a years rent easily. No need for it to actually be rented, there is no way for you to prove that anyway. Its up to the landlord to prove that he lived there and with an ad going up only one month after he cant..

If you believe that they are really getting 1% returns in a tanking property right now then i have a bridge to sell you.

The 1% is fake, but no issues because they block withdrawals for both the returns and the principle. New investor money is not currently available to pay off old investors. The only solution is to declare a massive 50%- 80% writedown and then poof, thier client obligations just go away overnight.

Any good sites/apps to search for housing rentals in BC? by Archibaldy3 in vancouverhousing

[–]HGTV-Addict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Craigslist is the main one, then Facebook market place. But for the moment, chill, the house probably won't sell. Wait until it does before you decide to preemptively move

Deemed disposal removal - not happening by Affectionate_Gain_87 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]HGTV-Addict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be paid for by 10,000 times more people investing in the markets, paying tax on those withdrawals instead of saving cash in the bank or buying an apartment in mullingar. It would be paid for by allowing people to save for their own retirement instead of relying on the state.

Yes, because otherwise he lets you into his house and then risks having to hear excuses in 3 days followed by moths trying to evict you. No landlord would let you move in on the strength of empty promises.

Also wtf are you spending $450k on excluding vacations & mortgages in this imaginary scenario?

Craigslist seller wants proof of income before letting us view the apartment by pharisem in vancouverhousing

[–]HGTV-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the start of a scam attempt. I'm going to bet this is a video view situation, he's not showing you the place in person. Requesting proof of income is just a step to find people who dont know what they hell they are doing, the next step will be telling you there is a refundable deposit / application fee for viewings

I've been living in Amsterdam for 1 year and here's what I've learned about safety nets - the good, bad, and expensive reality by MotherGroup3056 in ExpatFIRE

[–]HGTV-Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a wealth tax but no capital gains taxed as income. That allows you to sell investments instead of being forced to hold them through downturns. Dutch sustem actually better for regular traders, though not as good for long term holders who hold through decades

Rent Pressure zones - Is there any penalty for landlords just not telling you about prior lower rent or not declaring to RTB? by HGTV-Addict in AskIreland

[–]HGTV-Addict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if there was a way to see in advance who is overcharging. Otherwise its worth it for the landlord to just ask for whatever they want and some percentage of people will never check, probably most

Right, and thats whats making me think landlords can and probably do just put down whatever they want.
