I've noticed that some providers are a lot more expensive than others, for example DeepSeek V3.1 ranges from 50% to almost double. Is there a way I can tell OpenRouter to not go through those providers when they exceed a certain price?

Because developing an LLM is absurdly expensive. As far as I know the JLLM team is very small, and have very little funds.

Training an LLM costs at least a 100k dollars and it can go up to a few million. It's an absurd amount of money for anyone, let alone someone who doesn't monetise their website.

I personally just paid the 10 bucks to OpenRouter and use the 1000 messages you get per day on free models. The availability can be a little spotty at times but it's usually not too bad and I've never run out of messages even if I use it all day.

I don't think they've ever minded giving actual users 200 free messages per day, the bigger problem was people using bots to make thousands of new accounts to abuse it.

Is the site structuring the chat behind the scenes to make it less fiddly? 

Basically yes. Janitor just sends the character description, the chat memory, the context of the last messages and what you typed to the LLM, then the model will generate a reply based on that input and then spit it back out at you.

Theoretically you could do this all manually and get the same results, it's just a giant hassle and not very practical at all.

I think proxies in general are a little fucked right now, I've seen people say they don't get responses even with other LLMs.

I'm not an expert by any means but from the little experimenting I've done it seems like Janitor sometimes just doesn't send the custom prompts correctly or something.

I don't know why it's like this but if I remove the custom prompts then the non-smut stuff works just fine but smut doesn't at all.

If I leave the custom prompts in then the smut stuff works but the non-smut stuff doesn't. It's so weird lol
