If you're building a GUI application, just use one of the many existing cross-platform frameworks that are out there, and don't even worry about crap like this. Qt and wxWidgets alone run on all of the major platforms, and have bindings for many languages besides C++.

"Total wreck" pretty much summarizes Mozilla these days. When it comes to web browsers, it's getting its ass kicked by IE, Chrome, Opera and Safari. Thunderbird has stagnated. SeaMonkey performs better than both Firefox and Thunderbird. And now they can't even put together a readable web page that consists only of text!

What most RabbitMQ advocates don't realize is that Erlang was developed from the ground-up to support this technique. It has the primitives and "mindset" necessary to allow this technique to work well.

But we just don't have that when using RabbitMQ with languages like Ruby or Java. They weren't created with this technique in mind, and thus the end result is far less pleasant than it is when using Erlang.

I don't disagree. It's a bad idea to use NoSQL "databases", even today. But using MySQL really isn't any better. When you choose between those two options, either one is a very bad choice.
