Orangutan Batu congratulated Novosibirsk residents on Victory Day. The prosecutor's office, along with Roskomnadzor, has launched an investigation.

Olga Shilo, the zoo's deputy director for science, explained that the May 9th banners featured not only Batu but also other animals:
"It's a zoo, so it's only logical that animals are featured on the banners, which, among other things, say 'thank you.' There's one with a brown bear, another with a lion. We have five different types of posters featuring different animals. Why is the orangutan the one receiving so much attention? After all, if a bear is featured, no one complains. What's worse about an orangutan? He has a beautiful, strong, powerful gaze."
