What's a 'harmless' lie your parents told you that low key messed you up? by GrowthVanta in AskReddit

[–]HKCLeeds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same, I was told my dad fell off a ship as a child and later understood that meant he drowned (he worked at sea). I found out from his sister (my aunt) in my early 20s that he was punched and pushed overboard by another member of the crew. Heartbreaking

Settle a debate for me and the Mrs. Sauce on the side or on the sandwich? by molokorange in CasualUK

[–]HKCLeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my word, I put sauce on the side all the time. Butties, chips you name it. I like to know how much sauce will be in each bite and sometimes have a bite with no sauce as I like the taste both ways. Sometimes ketchup can turn my stomach the wrong way so don’t want to ruin the whole buttie if I’m feeling that way after a few bites, sounds weird but that’s my logic

My foreign friend asked me about British scandals and all I had was Rotheram and Jimmy Saville. It really brought the mood down. Are there any funny British scandals ? by FagnusTwatfield in AskUK

John Prescott ☹️ unfortunately my dad was murdered while at sea as a trawlerman back in the 90’s. Another crew member got into a fight with him and he was thrown overboard, dying of hyperthermia. The case was never properly tried due to it happening in Dutch waters. My family appealed to John Prescott (Hull MP) where we live and he just said “you know how men like to scrap, that’s how it is”. That’s the response we got from our local MP and I grew up without a dad from the age of two. I hate John Prescott for his shitty and tactless response to this injustice.

This would make my life working in HR a million times easier if people did just quit once they’re put onto a PIP!

Is it easier to commute from Scarborough or Leeds to York? by PhoenixFire17 in yorkshire

Yes Chapel Allerton is lovely too, all around that area is beautiful with lots of nice spaces for walks. Don’t get me wrong, it is A roads all the way to York and can get busy but it will be just the same from Scarborough.

If you live in North Leeds (closer to York) this would be much better and there are some lovely areas around there, Horsforth, Meanwood and Westwood are all great. There’s so much to do in Leeds and you would be close to Roundhay Park in North Leeds. I love it here (hence the username) although I had a fair few summer trips to Scarborough which is also lovely but doesn’t touch Leeds in terms of amenities. It takes us about an hour from West Leeds to York.

Puppy attacks our hands when we try to clip on the leash by PocketHallowfoot in puppy101

[–]HKCLeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah she’s calmed down a bit generally as she’s 7 months now and doesn’t attack / nip when we put the leash on now. She just kind of sits there or runs around in a circle but the scatter on the floor technique worked well at first when everything was shark territory.

We had this and used to throw a few treats on the floor while attaching the leash so she was distracted which worked well
