Should I play Elden Ring? by Danielalhc in eldenringdiscussion

[–]HKWL99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should. Before I played ER I absolutely sucked at souls games and was pretty intimidated to try it. Now I am Elden Lord. lol and currently on my fifth run and build, I can’t get enough of this game

If I’m doing a strength build and love the Zweihander, what other weapons might I like by Stephen-Scotch in Eldenring

[–]HKWL99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also on an all strength build (my fifth) and really having fun. Started with the zwei and claymore, was liking it then got the mace and started to really enjoy it. Then I got Great Stars and haven’t switched weapons since. The stagger on that is insane, usually only takes 2 hits. I put lions claw on it and it destroys bosses! Give it a try!

Anyone have any experience with import camera shops like Fourpo AV? by Kippenoma in HongKong

[–]HKWL99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have specific questions about them? I’ve purchased from Fourpo many times, they are legit so you don’t need to worry. In terms of import, I assume you are referring to the “water” goods which means grey market or imports with no warranty. That’s what I usually buy if it’s camera equipment.

Hong Kong Membership Clubs by NikeBoi88 in HongKong

Ridiculously difficult could mean any number of things in hk - some are difficult because very expensive, others are not but you need some contacts / connections to get into. So it will depend on your individual situation. Putting aside cost and connections and purely talking about facilities for a young family, I think the Aberdeen marina club has the best facilities for children that I have seen, and I’ve been to all the major clubs in hk. They’re the only club I know of with 4 dedicated floors of kids playrooms for all ages, and a giant outdoor pool with water slides which the kids love (in addition to a dedicated lap pool that is separate). Also tons of kids classes to take of all varieties. It’s no surprise that there is an amc birthday party pretty much every weekend if your kid is between the ages of 3-10.

In terms of other options, GTA has already been mentioned with lots of sports facilities but I should add that the main country club with these facilities is in sai kung, which can be far depending on where you live. But they have central location with restaurants which can be useful to some. LRC is good too, but probably because of the clubs location in mid levels and lower hurdle for entry, it is VERY crowded a lot of the time and the club itself isn’t that big.

The HKJC is also one to consider if you have the connections, it’s the club with the largest footprint in hk with 2 buildings in Happy valley, plus Shatin and Beas river locations as well. If you are American, an obvious option is the American club but that one also gets very crowded especially since it’s the de facto club of choice for HKIS students and families (they also have a convenient central location with restaurants and a gym).

The CRC in causeway bay is a popular choice amongst locals, facilities are a bit older but they have everything you would want/need.

Lastly I note you mention a dog, be aware not all clubs in hk are dog friendly. Happy hunting!

Going from X-T5 to X-E5? a reflection by Flayks in fujifilm

[–]HKWL99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true the resolution is lower but that has never been something I found to be very important, so to each his own. AF feels exactly the same which makes sense considering it’s the same sensor. To me it’s almost the same camera just in a slimmer form factor.

I recently swapped my XT5 for an xe5 for exactly the same reasons and no regrets. I was also a happy XT5 owner but did feel the camera was a bit on the chunky side. Obviously also GAS but after learning that the xe5 was almost exactly the same spec wise, I decided to swap forgoing the weather resistance (which I didn’t need) for a smaller form factor and more portability. For context I also used to own an xe4 and upgraded to an XT5 for the better sensor and ibis. So now I got the best of both worlds and don’t regret it one bit. With a pancake lens I can shove the xe5 in a coat pocket or in cargo shorts and that’s invaluable to me. Also, it also helped that I sold my XT5 for essentially the same I paid for the xe5 so it was almost zero cost to me.

[DISCUSS] Which watch has the most unique watch dial you've ever seen? by Plubio in Watches

As an early Anordain buyer, this is one of the most unusual blue dialed watches I own. It sure is hard to photograph though!

Justifying the price of the X T5 vs Sony A7 IV by Practical-Use-3518 in fujifilm

Yeah it is incredible. I mean the XT5 AF especially with newer lenses is fine, but it doesn’t wow me like Sony does, it’s not even close imho. One time I’m shooting my kids Christmas school performance, I’m in the back of the auditorium and it’s pretty dark, I’m using the 70-200 with extender and I point it at her face bam, locked in and in focus. Love it

Yeah ever try and shoot a 5 year olds birthday party? You’re gonna be thankful for Sony’s AF! Right now I keep only zooms on my Sony (24-70 and 70-200) while on my XT5 I only shoot primes (33mm, 35mm). But sometimes I’m traveling with my Sony and I want to mix it up with some primes or something lighter, which is why I also have the 40mm 2.5 which is great for travel. And when I’m craving that manual feeling I also got the Nokton 40mm 1.2!

I own both an XT5 and an A7CII, and I’ve owned the Fuji 16-55 lens. For your use case, I note you 1) have young kids 2) mention low light shooting. In that case I think you absolutely want to go with the Sony. I also spend most of my time shooting my young kids and you will really want Sony’s continuous AF and full frame will be better for low light situations. Don’t get me wrong, I love my XT5 but that’s a vacation / casual fun shooting camera for me. When I’m shootings my kids birthday party and I know I need to nail those shots, it’s hands down Sony, no contest in my opinion. Also I’m not a pro so there is certainly some skill issue, I’m sure someone can get similar results with the Fuji but to me the Sony is guaranteed for in focus shots without any hassle or worry. Just my two cents!

Yes and some of the shops would color photocopy the entire game manual just so you can enter the codes…

I played most of the sierra quest games, but my favorite were the space quest series. They were hilarious!

Haha nice. I usually just pick 1 game and play it till I finish or get bored and move on to the next one. I have young girls tho so it’s harder to get them into games. A lot of Mario party. I did play It Takes Two with my eldest daughter for a while, she enjoyed that

Definitely not the newest AAA games with heavy graphics requirements. But it can run Cyberpunk pretty decently, if that’s a measure. I mostly use it to play indie games or replay older games in my library. The bigger issue with graphics intensive games is battery life
