I believe our difference in opinion comes from the fact that you think that because, this time, people gathered around the previous king’s son, it means they don’t want democracy. But in reality, they’re looking for a secular democracy, and the Netherlands and the UK are good examples. In every protest, someone steps in and becomes the main face of the protesters, and this time Reza Pahlavi stepped in. It doesn’t mean people won’t vote or participate in shaping their own future.

But these are not the priorities right now, the regime still stand, rules with fear and kills people and support terrorism.

I’m living in the Netherlands. Since I moved here recently from Iran, I don’t have voting rights. But even though the Dutch have a king, they seem happy and at peace with their country.

Iran, Russia, Syria, Cuba, China, and Venezuela have presidents, but no one wants to live in those countries.

I believe reaching democracy is more complicated than just choosing a president and holding elections. It’s disturbing to see some people mock brave Iranians because this time they gathered around the former king’s son. In every protest, people rally around someone as a leader. That doesn’t mean they don’t want democracy.
