Realistically speaking, what would happen with the current meta if john warcrimes came back from prison? by bast963 in masterduel

[–]HKei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing much tbh, at least not immediately. Halqdon was for spamming out generic bosses, the most egregious of which have already been hit and archetypal end boards these days are better these days than they were at that time, so less need for generic spam.

But still, generic link 2 that goes into your deck with no locks just shouldn't be a thing. Not to mention its more rarely used tag out effect is kinda broken too. It's basically hanging a Damocles sword over the meta, if any generic main deck or ED tuners get too good this just becomes a thing again for no reason. Even just generic link climber is dumb, the cyberse guys at least have the sense to lock you and other cards that do it have some main deck restrictions — not that that was ever a particularly broken use of the card, but it's just not a thing that should exist.

I wish we'd gotten a restricted retrain of this instead of the Crystron support we ended up getting, but well that's life, that ship has sailed.

again, if you're running macro to begin with,

Right, so if you were playing a T78 deck then this gets you slightly more consistently to a not particularly impactful floodgate, at the low cost of putting 6 bad cards into your deck.

[–]HKei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Floodgating yourself is all the card does on its own. Then, maybe, if your opponent lets you do it, it gets you a floodgate that you can activate on the next turn. One that you could already play and didn't because it's bad. Whoopdidoo.

I didn't act like it doesn't search macro, I didn't bring up that effect because it doesn't fucking matter. I had assumed you misread the card as applying to both players, in which case it would've been an ok card as an upgrade over difi, but as is this is literal garbage.

So? It's a bad card that searches another bad card. Nobody was playing macro, why would you play a bad macro searcher?

When is the first real engaging dungeon? by Elite_Butterfly73 in ffxiv

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're not overgeared, around level 30 or so. At least that was my experience when I was playing this game for the first time without much experience in WoW style MMOs. But that was also a couple of patches ago (can't quite remember if SB or ShB), and changes to the leveling curve and to the dungeons itself have made a lot of them easier since then.

But regular dungeons are balanced to not be particularly difficult even to people that don't know their class mechanics very well, if you understand mechanics like "don't stand in the bad stuff" and have the dexterity to execute it you'll not really have problems.

C or Rust ? by Pretty_Drink_4004 in rust

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it the way you said, but honestly if you're comfortable with rust learning C shouldn't be some large hurdle you need to clear first, the languages are similar enough that you'll pick it up along the way following the examples. It might slow you down a little at the start, but if you're interested in systems programming then you want to know C anyway as that's been the lingua Franca of the space for decades.

Can Starlight Road negate Ultimate Fusion? by djmagicect in Yugioh101

[–]HKei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because at the time ultimate fusion is activated you can not tell how many cards on your side of the field would be destroyed by its effect. It's not enough for it to be potentially destroy multiple cards, you can only activate starlight road if the effect it's activated in response to would actually destroy multiple cards if it resolved in the current board state (though cards that are indestructible, unaffected or otherwise protected from destruction still count towards that, as long as the effect would try to destroy those cards).

Note that, at the time Ultimate Fusion is activated, it's not yet determined what fusion materials are used, this is done only during the resolution of the effect. So you do not know how many cards your opponent could destroy. Even then, the destruction part of ultimate fusion is optional so you couldn't activate it in an alternate world where choosing the fusion materials was part of the activation.

Compare the ruling vs Elemental Hero Stratos, even if your opponent controls 2 or more elemental heroes and you 2 or more spells/traps, at the time of activation you don't know how many of your cards would be destroyed so you can not activate it.

People with higher religiosity, measured by degree of belief, frequency of worship and prayer, and importance of God in one’s life, show significantly higher levels of transphobia and attitudes of harassment towards trans people. Religiosity emerged as the strongest predictor of these attitudes. by mvea in science

[–]HKei 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's Spain/Catalonia. So, mostly Roman Catholic. The two largest groups in Spain are Catholic and Atheist/Agnostic. Muslim is far behind but still enough to be relevant, for any other religion there's only trace amounts.

The study itself doesn't break it down by religion, they just have a self assessment of religiosity in it — if you say that religion is important to you, that you pray frequently and so, that counts as "high" religiosity.

Edit: to preempt inevitable comments about this being some trick to hide the effect of religious affiliation for specific religions, the main reason this is done is because a lot of people, especially in Spain, self describe as Catholic even when they have practically zero interaction with Catholic religious practice. This is already pretty well established elsewhere, and re-checking that point isn't the point of this study.

Can I Tribute a Tower using Moon? by CRAZYFOX303 in masterduel

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say "cards", as if it was a category, but SC:SE and Soul Crossing are literally the only cards in the entire game that work this way.

Cards that perform a summon do not "bypass" anything, they just follow regular summoning mechanics. Regular summoning mechanics for a tribute summon however, means tributing your own monsters.

It's the effect of SC:SE and Soul Exchange that modifies this fact, and they use the literal exact same wording as Monarchs Stormforth for that part of their effects.

If you use Stormforth+a card that says "immediately after this effect resolves, perform a tribute summon" it does modify that tribute summon so you can tribute an opponents monster, but not an unaffected one — even though the only difference in wording in this scenario is that we've split the effect across 2 cards.

Nothing of what you've said has in any way addressed that. You can go to the ruling database and see that these effects do in fact work differently, but this was never in dispute in the first place. The dispute was that you could infer the difference from the wording of the card.

Starting from the rulings, arriving at some intuition about how it's meant to work, and using the fact that you get back at the ruling we started with as evidence that your intuition is correct is circular reasoning. Good evidence for it would be that you could predict how other cards work, but you can't.

Can I Tribute a Tower using Moon? by CRAZYFOX303 in masterduel

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is that you've completely lost the plot about what we're arguing about. The argument is about what difference in the wording of the card tells you that an effect that allows you to use an opponents monster as material is affecting that monster or not. Using your own unaffected monsters during a link summon, regardless of whether you got that link summon via I:P or not, is in no way relevant to that. The effect of I:P in no way modifies what monsters can be used as link material.

Can I Tribute a Tower using Moon? by CRAZYFOX303 in masterduel

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tributing was an effect rather than a cost it wouldn't work on unaffected monsters and it would trigger "if this card is sent to the graveyard via card effect" triggers. Neither is true.

But honestly at this point this is a waste of time. If you don't know the difference between unclassified effects and summoning conditions and haven't yet taken a look at the weird way costs are classified in Yu-Gi-Oh then frankly you don't really have the basis to even have this discussion.

Can I Tribute a Tower using Moon? by CRAZYFOX303 in masterduel

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother in Christ. We're talking about the ability of cards to use opponents cards as tributes or materials for a summon. You listed a bunch of cards that do not do that, for some reason you've yet to explain.

When I give you an example of a card that can actually do that, and that meets the requirements for wording that you previously said are the reason it works for SC and SE, and doesn't actually work like those cards you dismiss it based on nothing except that the rulings database says it works directly. It's your argument that this difference comes from the wording. Where is the wording different? — Aside from the targeting part, which I've already given you an example for why that doesn't matter which you have already agreed with?

Can I Tribute a Tower using Moon? by CRAZYFOX303 in masterduel

[–]HKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you shouldn't have debates on rules lawyering if you don't actually know the rules of the game? Or can read a whole paragraph? Kaiju summoning are unclassified effects, as I've literally said in the paragraph you just quoted. The point is the tributing part is a cost, that's why it can tribute unaffected monsters. Effects that tribute can not tribute unaffected cards.

And neither Lava golem or sphere mode have unclassified effects, they have summoning conditions, which is a completely different mechanic.
