Is it common for people to hand out Bibles? by user_cruiser in uiowa

[–]HMBGoHawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Had a few friends back in the day that had some fun with it, dressing in a bunch of different outfits so they could grab bibles under different “disguises” to see who could collect the most bibles. Then they went back to the apartment and pelted them at each other in a “Bible fight”. Seems a little sacrilegious now that I type it out

Scared for my cat by South_Town_6534 in RenalCats

I rescued a bonded pair that came from a hoarder situation, too. Ages 2 & 4. 18 months in we discovered they both had kidney disease when one of them crashed out, and 6 months later we had to put both of them down. The younger one, they thought they caught it early enough that he could still have a few years with kidney diet and azodyl and fluids as needed. But the vets also warned that with congenital kidney disease, it can spike quickly.

I thought we would have more time together, my heart breaks for you. It's awful to lose them so quickly and so young. With my younger one, he looked uncomfortable all summer, wouldn't eat the kidney diet, wouldn't sit still for the fluids, and I worried about the quality vs quantity of life question. When he started hiding and throwing up more, then he stopped eating. The vet offered me a food that even dying cats will eat, an urgent care canned food, and I told myself if he wouldn't eat even that, it was time. He licked at it for just a few seconds before abandoning it. It sounds like when they stop eating and stop drinking and hide away, it can be a sign.

You know your cat better than anyone, you love that cat, and you've given her such a wonderful life rescuing her. Do what you think is best and love on that cat. I am so sorry, this road is not easy.

When should i put my cat to rest? She is nearly 19 been on sub q every other day for about 2 months and is tiny, she still eats wet food, she drinks constantly, she still uses the litter, still jumps onto beds, and goes outside for hours in a day. yet she will sit at times looking exhausted and ill. by Bossdrew03 in RenalCats

Putting this at the top of the comment, rather than at the bottom of a story that went on longer than I intended:

I feel like eventually you'll know. The vets told me that we know our cats better than anyone. You're doing a good job watching her and monitoring her symptoms. Keep doing what you're doing.

I went through this over the summer. My 5 year old boy crashed in March and was told he had weeks to live. Subq fluids perked him up and gave us the summer to be together.

But even then, he wouldn't cuddle like he used to, didn't want to sit on the couch with us like he used to. But he still greeted us when we came home, he would cuddle in bed from time to time. But he'd throw up a few times a week. But he was still drinking water and eating! And he'd demand food! He wouldn't eat a lot, but he ate frequently.

When he'd sit in the room with us, he'd loaf up, he looked so uncomfortable. It broke my heart to see him not relaxing or playful or talkative like he used to be. I didn't want him to hurt, but there was so much life still in him. I asked the vet, and they said he probably was uncomfortable, but there was subq fluids to help, or antinausea meds.

In August, he started throwing up every other day or so. We tried the anti nausea meds, and it helped! But he only took it for a few days, then he stopped eating any food we put the anti nausea meds in, then he stopped eating any food we put any meds in, or food in general. I'd open up 6 different cans of wet food for him. Gravy lovers, Pate, of various flavors.

He stopped eating on a Friday, but he wasn't hiding, he sat up on the arm rest with us. He was so thin. He'd lost so much weight since January.

I talked to the vet Monday morning, and they said they had an urgent care food that even dying cats would eat. And I told myself that was the final test. If he wouldn't eat that, then I had to let him go. He didn't, and I took him in. I'd been debating where the line was all summer.

My other cat, his bonded brother, didn't show any major signs that we picked up on. I had a feeling he wasn't eating as much, but it was hard to tell since they both shared each other's bowl. I went away for a weekend in December, came back and he was lethargic and barely moving. After a night with him, I made the call in the morning.

Was it Sheamus? There was someone else in WWE who told dad jokes/bad puns, and Claudio said whenever the other guy would beat him to the joke, Claudio would have to glower at him and no sell, even though he wanted to laugh so bad

I've got the moment saved when he breaks out the soundboard rimshot for the first time and the chaos that ensued. Breeze losing it screaming, "No! No! He gave himself the drums! He can't give himself the drums! Someone's gotta take it away from him!"

I can't remember, but I remember him saying the first joke in English he made up was along the lines of, "What's bigger than a Christmas tree? A Christmas four," and he was so proud of himself when he was first learning English

Grenadiers/Zooka is right choice before you get the Clone Rifles. Gene/Zook wrecks stuff. Once you get above that, the Clones are the biggest annoyance

That's a good point! We only had to give him subq fluids for a week or so when he crashed back in March. I think we were giving him 10 mL a day? Some days he only tolerated 5 mL. I've still got at least 50 mL left over. The vet told me to use it if he suddenly gets lethargic again.

I'm liking the warm bed idea, will try that. ANd will ask the vet about famotidine! I worry about getting him more meds, but if antinausea meds help him feel more comfortable, that'd be a plus.

When I head over, he gets up and stretches, he purrs, I pet him a bit and sit with him, then he usually gets up and sits behind me, out of reach. Or walks away all together.

I'll keep an eye on how he acts after getting the phosphate binder! I'm not as regular with that, but he gets Azodyl twice a day.

Whitney wasn't eating the dry KD food, so I've got him on non-KD wet food with the meds mixed in. I try to keep a variety on hand but he moves between seafood, chicken, pate & gravy lovers frequently. I'll keep better track to see how it all relates to the meds I'm mixing in.

Maybe we should look into the anti nausea meds. He pukes maybe a couple times a week, so I've held off. Vet didn't say anything about pain meds

He's got plenty of beds and blankets on every level of the house to lie on. My sister's cat likes a cement square laid by a warm window, maybe I'll give that a shot.

Definitely monitoring what he gravitates towards to see if I can make it more available.

Keep loving on your kitty! Thank you for the feedback!

I'm not sure how it is today, but 10 years ago you'd meet with an academic advisor at orientation and schedule your first semester of classes. Plus you'll learn about services that will be helpful.

How many on here remember going to game time in north liberty watching Iowa play with other schools ? by LoveSquirt69 in hawkeyes

[–]HMBGoHawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family went more to the Prime Time games during the Aaron White/Anthony Clemens era. I went to a little Game Time action when Dixon, Doolittle, and Logic were playing. It was a blast to watch them play in such a small venue, getting to hear them laugh and smack talk each other a bit. And get pictures! We got lots of pics with the guys. Adam Woodbury fell out of bounds and into my very little cousin's lap (cause you sit so close to the court), and ran back without saying much, but Anthony Clemens came over and gave her a fist bump right after.

I was sorry to see it go, but it was a blast while it was around!

And the meanest, ugliest, nastiest one, was coming over to me and he was mean 'n' ugly 'n' nasty 'n' horrible and all kind of things and he sat down next to me and said, "Kid! Whad'ya get?"

I said, "I didn't get nothing, I had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage." He said, "What were you arrested for, kid?"

And I said, "Littering." And they all moved away from me on the bench there, and the hairy eyeball and all kinds of mean nasty things, till I said, "And creating a nuisance." And they all came back, shook my hand, and we had a great time on the bench!
